Image of finalised design surfaces on internet forums. Sources confirm authenticity

A new image of Microsoft’s Xbox 360 has surfaced on web forums this evening, where it is believed an industry insider leaked the image.

Sources we spoke to who have already seen the hardware themselves confirmed that this image - despite being a render rather than a photo - is indeed the official finalised design of Xbox 360.

Other scant details have also been revealed to us by our sources.

Apparently, as well as removable media for saving games, gamers will be able to save games onto their home computers via LAN networks.

Whether or not this will allow game saves to be swapped is still unclear however, as saves may be marked to users’ Gamertags.

Lastly, while the render of the finalised design is white, sources are adamant the outer shell of the Xbox 360 will be removable, allowing gamers to personalise their console with a wide range of alternate colours and designs. Specific colours aren’t yet confirmed, although the chrome model partially unveiled on viral marketing website Ourcolony.net yesterday is a genuine possibility.

Quite unusual look for Xbox 360, so...two memory slots which (I guess) means two controlers, and it seems we'll be able to place it horizontaly and verticaly. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/privateeye.gif

I'll wait for the MTV Special to appear on Fileplanet before I start making judgements.

This isn't the first 'official' release design that has been leaked. Looks like my Sky+ box, but not like the Developer version.

They're revealing it on MTV? Great. Now all I'll hear are idiots who know nothing about video games but just like it because it makes them look cool ramble on about how great the next XBOX is.

Anyways, IMO the launch on MTV is an incredibly smart move by MS. It reaches way more of the mainstream than a that of a conference room at E3. For me it just shows that MS knows their audience and who they have to appeal to.

But how many times do you think Elijah Wood will say "Awsome!" during the show? I'm guessing at least 20.
