Anyone care to have larger avatars (in both size and file weight)?

You only want larger avatars so that miniature Darth Vader shows up better, but yes so do I. My Sun Conures would look soooo much better.

Kate!!!! I'm thinking about all you wonderful members wanting larger avatars!!!

Um.. OK then. You're right. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

You see Justin I have ESP so I know what you are thinking. You can't fool me, I'm a wake up to you. And guess what, I'm a blonde. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/mischievous.gif

Q: What does a blonde put behind her ears to make her more attractive?

Tramp

The trouble with larger avatars is that the post text is right at the top of the post panel. See what I mean?

Tramp
11-03-05, 03:10
I could live with that.

tlr online
11-03-05, 03:10
Folks. I'm gonna leave my avatar this size for a while. Purely for educational purposes. i.e. so you can see what larger avatars will look like before voting.

http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Thorn
11-03-05, 03:16
Actually the larger spacing makes it much easier to read.

tlr online
11-03-05, 03:26
Yeah. If only I could find a way to drop the post count, location.. etc down to the bottom of the post. (if you see what I mean)

11-03-05, 03:30
If the avatar size does chance, what will happen to the old 48*48 ones?

tlr online
11-03-05, 03:32
They will ALL have to be redesigned and uploaded to our server.

tlr online
11-03-05, 03:36
OK. I've got the source code in front of me for the user posts. I think we can edit the bottom line and place it at the bottom of the post. If it all goes wrong, don't hit refresh. Just go back to the forum summary page and enter the thread again.

tlr online
11-03-05, 03:43
Didn't work. Time to ask the expert.

I think it's a good idea. Although I like the small avatars, they look stylish.

If the software allows the 48x48 avatars to remain un-touched, then go for it. But if the software will automatically re-size the avatars, I think it's not a good idea. I haven't checked this, so I can't tell for sure.

btw\ the size of your avatar is huge. I would suggest a smaller one.

Murphy, it can be whatever, as long as it's not bigger in file size, which will be specified http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif

The 48x48 can still be default. The 128x128 can be new (alternative) size for those who want it.

The more I think about this, the more I think it's a great idea. I've just seen Sim's "walking FDD" avatar in the new larger size, and it looks awesome!!!

Larger avatars, especially ultra cool ones, remind me of toys! And with toys comes fun! I reckon it will be a right laugh if this vote gets passed. (which is the way it's looking!)

I'm quite happy with the size as it is but think 80x80 (as Elen suggested) doesn't look too bad.

Penguin_Darth does make me laugh but I recon it's just TOOOOOOO! big. And having a life Size Yoda avatar just isn't cool.

That's if anyone cares what I think.

11-03-05, 15:42
Only if it will be UP TO 128 x 128, so that the smaller ones will be maintained as well. And not larger in size than the 9 Kb of tlr's one.

Joseph
11-03-05, 15:47
Oh yeah, so i voted Yes. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif
What i would not like to see, are 25 large, animated gifs at the left in one thread taking the balance off the forum's view. My left eye will constantly be irritated by it. I just hate that.

Or, the avatars have to be placed on both sides of the screen. :D

tlr online

I think the pixel size and kb size needs to be similar. It's almost impossible to make a larger pixel avatar with only 4k. I think we should be able to have them either 80x80 or up (tlr's decision) and either 9k or 10k, I dunno. I'm so excited! I really hope we can get this to happen. It's about time! So many other forums have gone through this. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif

You need to merge the bottom cell in the first column (the one with the member rating, with the bottom cell in the second column (the one with the post count, location, etc.) so that both cells belong to the same row in the table. The html might look something like this: <tr> <td></td><td></td></tr>.

At some stage, I'd like to clean out the avatar library. Remove the older avatars that no-one uses. This will make surfing through the library a little bit quicker, than having to browse through a ton of pages to find your personal avatar.

http://img62.exs.cx/img62/1618/sparky1000aa.jpg THORN, that is a InternetExplorer problem. It does not display the glow right. I did a similar thing, saved it as a .jpg, as well as .png, same problem.

That is the reason why ELEN's flower doesn't glow anymore as it did before. I tried to change it for her, and succeeded very well! http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif :D Only, when i uploaded it and looked at the result it was awful! :(
In Photoshop (or any program on one's pc) it looks good, but next via IE it doesn't.

Net are they still linking to Imageshack. I can see them and it appears as if Sparky can see them.

Joseph

Look at Sparky's 'glow' above. That is no glow, that is an out-lighted border.

Have a couple more to try out.

Tramp, your fault was that you placed them as a link. But you should only paste their url as "Image" (use the Image button instead of the Link button). It must be like this. Originally posted by joseph:

I see them Tramp yes. Also they are hosted at Imageshack yes.

he second red one has gone wrong for startes, the blue has a grey -ish background yes, but the red one was done with a transparent background, although it appears it has put a white border around the blue glow i placed on it.

Thanks Sim for the image edit, looks great.

Fixed it now. I should be using Direct Link to Image not Hotlink for forums. Thought I tried Direct Link before and the images didn't show up. Maybe I only tried them up to show image to friends. Now I know which one to use.

Which one do you prefer.

The thing is i just viewed page 5 of this thread in IE, and the glow seems to diplay fine in the last post i posted with the two examples of my avatar. The glow seems fine
, or it just could be my eyes.

If you consider that as 'glow', than you're right Sparky. But is a enlightened border actually. Glow is much more subtle, and not displayed correctly by IE.

Which one do you prefer. Tramp, if you want to display a picture in a thread here, it is best you use the "IMAGE" button. If you want to place a link here, it is best you use the "LINK" button. What you did was a combination of both. :D No problem though, only it seemed to cause a visibility-problem to some members, so i edited your post. Not realising you were editing at the same time. ;) Sorry. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif

Tramp, the birds are nice. But I picked up on the linking pics because I thought they were just thumbnails that linked to better images. And what I mean by that is the compression ratio your image editor is using is too much. That's why they have lots of artefacts (blocky images) Reduce the compression used and you'll get a smoother image. ;)

I like the bottom most one btw.

Tramp
13-03-05, 00:25
What about this one?

13-03-05, 00:30
That's a much better image (and you can see your name better), AND it's so cute. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif Such beautiful colours. (btw, I always thought your current avatar was a flower - an orchid :D )

Tramp
13-03-05, 00:37
Net you should see the bird in real life. They are about 12inches high. The colours are unbelievable. They are so cheeky really fun loving birds. And for their size they have a really big voice.

Here is an improvement on a previous one.

http://img182.exs.cx/img182/4335/030WithTramp.jpg

I have downloaded IrfanView and editing them through it. I appear to get a clearer image.

SpArKy
13-03-05, 00:46
Yeah Irfanview is a really good image editing tool, espeacially when it is free. I like the First one after Nets last post. Very cute.

Neteru
13-03-05, 01:23
Ah yeah, that's an improvement, less compression http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif And I bet they're noisy.

Tramp
13-03-05, 01:51
Not noisy so much but sound factor compared to body weight is huge. They have a voice of a bird 20 times bigger than they are.

I think I prefer the one with the dark background and head and shoulders only. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif

Anyone know any good ways to make mine smaller without hurting its quality?

Neteru
14-03-05, 10:11
Smaller? Well open it in an animation package and resize the individual frames, then rebuild it. But I don't get why you want to make it smaller. Unless you're putting it with something else. Oh I get it, you just want to go against the trend don't you?! :D

Tramp
14-03-05, 10:16
Does Draco mean Pixel Size or maybe KB size. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/whistle.gif

Neteru
14-03-05, 10:24
LOL, er, um, maybe http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/whistle.gif

If it's the image KB size Draco, open it in an animation editor and rebuild using less colours. I've just done a quick test and reducing to 31 colours gets it down 8.2KB and still looks reasonable.
