Remember that Jill de Jong HDTV interview I uploaded to the server yesterday evening. Well, unbeknown to me, NTL corrupted the upload. Since then, I've spent 10 hours trying to upload the 85Mb interview. NTL is incapable of sustaining a constant internet connection. During the upload (which takes around 90 minutes, because ALL NTL Broadband accounts are capped for upload) my NTL connection freezes, and I have to renew my IP address thus disconnecting the upload.

This has been going on for 10 hours. Anyone considering NTL, think wisely about the movie. They are completely ****! Their service sucks!

NTL is the UK's worst broadband service provider.

Morning Kate. It's been a long and frustrating night, and as soon as my BT cable modem arrives, my NTL modem will be thrown three floors to my stone courtyard. And that I AM looking forward to!

Your NTL is (was :D ) at least much better then is my 128Kbit/s connection.

Apofiss. I'd rather have a 56K modem if the service was uninterrupted. What is the point of a fast line that doesn't function?

Justin could you please browse the Avatar Poll thread and give me your opinion of the large avatars I have posted. Which one you prefer. Just like to get another opinion.

You're not going to believe this! I'm still getting upload drop-outs from the Cyber Cafe. The reason is because they are also on NTL.

For ****s sake!!!!!!!!

Ya know. This has become a mission. If this upload fails again, I'm driving to London with a CD to physically place the Jill de Jong interview onto my server.

I kid you not. This is war!

13-03-05, 11:52
Aha! So the server is in London. (I thought it's with you or something... http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/whistle.gif )

Never heard a good word about NTL. I guess I still haven't. :(

Morning Apofiss. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif If you want bandwidth for a server, it's best to put your server physically in a London based office that is on the major Internet Hub.

Hi Sim!

Yeah that's true, but that costs some money, right? http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/privateeye.gif

tlr online, why don't you choose another internet provider? (or you don't have a possibility to have another?)

Downloading...(it'll take a 1,5h to download with my connection poor speed 128Kbit/s -> transfer rate - 15KB/s and now it drops to 7KB/s and NOW it'll take 3h http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/c-1.gif )

I used to have NTL narrowband and it used to either:

Cut off after a minute if there was no activity on the line (a connection keeper program that PINGed the server every few seconds solved that problem)

After 1hour and 59 minutes it would automatically disconnect and I had no option but to redial. There was no way around this problem. Very frustrating especially if you were trying to download a large file and it took longer than this to download, but at least I could use DAP etc to resume downloads. There was no solution however if you were uploading.

And don't even get me started on NTL's email problems!

I have a BT ADSL line now and no cutoffs and no limits even if it does cost more. ;)

Atleast you don't have a 56k that connects at 31.2k http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/redface.gif ... (I guess it has to do with phone line quality). Needless to say, I'll be skipping on this one. :(

Edit: Don't you just hate it when you first get a good connection speed on a big file but the more and more you Download the slower the connection gets so it reads as taking 'so much time' the whole time you're Downloading it? http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

Cox wins.

Murphy - I always think that , i sit watchin it sloooowly decrease in speed, lol.

I too hate NTL, even though i never get any problems with them, and i never seem to lose my connection when uploading or downloading, but i never merely really upload files bigger then an MP3 to friends email address and vice versere. Unless i am downloading Vids from TRC lmao. Which sometimes the connection start at about 5 - 600 k a sec. LMAO. I was in shock. So now i get a faster conenction at home then i do at college.

Also NTL are notoriasly known for charging you for un-maid phonecalls, my friend got took to court for not paying her bill. She was almost certain she didnt call certain mobiles etc.

Its also a fact that NTL are in debt of around a considerable amount in Millions. But the government or whoever has decided to let it stay running as the consequencies of it shutting down would be far worse.

I don't see how anyone can hate NTL. Keep hearing about problems, but never had them myself. Cept for a little Direct Debit problem a few weeks back.

I did try BT for a while, truely horrible.
It was like trying to install a Router Network under Linux. Painful from start to end.

I never had any problems with AOL either, until I started using it on BT and Verizon.
Back on NTL and AT&T though it worked a treat.
