A German cannibal who confessed to killing, dismembering and eating another man has been sentenced to eight-and-a-half years in prison for manslaughter. Armin Meiwes was cleared of murder. The verdict brings to a close one of the most macabre court cases in recent Germany history.

He had admitted killing and eating engineer Bend-Juergen Brandes, but said his victim had consented to his own gruesome death. The jury heard how Meiwes met Brandes after advertising on the internet for "young men for real slaughter and consumption".

The pair ate the engineer's ***** before Meiwes carved the body into pieces, stored 66 pounds of flesh in a freezer and buried bones and the skull in the garden, the court heard. On the second day of the trial, the court viewed three 90-minute home videos showing the March 10, 2001 death, dissection and consumption of Brandes. Meiwes told the court that he met five other potential victims but did not eat them for various reasons - either they were too fat, too old, backed down or appeared unfriendly. The court also heard how the 42-year-old computer technician was trying to find a second person to eat after devouring his first victim.

That's just disturbing. How is he not getting life or even being committed to a mental institute?

And who consents to be eaten?

The photo doesn't do the guy justice.
One of the points we have to deal with is that on tv footage the guy looks and behaves entirely like a normal civilized being.

We have to try to understand what really happened and what is behind a person's social fassade.

When we think of a person with a false social fassade again the Nazi-dictatorship comes to mind - the men who were and often still are
"civilized" and respected citizens and good family fathers often went to "work" torturing and killing people.

The outer political circumstances have changed, but only too often people don't understand that while they have the right at fun and light-heartedness they should also face uncomfortable truths about the inhuman truths in their surroundings and that they ought to try to fight for Human Rights, even when it means to oppose a buddy.

Sorry, I didn't manage to make the connections that are there for me very clear.

It is not as unusual as one would think...

Every human on this rock has had a fantasy or craving of the most carnal kind...

It is a very very few who ever admit it much less act upon it...

I meant to explain that evil can wear a mundane face and is not necessarily the "other" ,the "far from my surroundings". Isabella meant that evil is visible on Meiwes' face . It is not.

We always have to use our heads and think cliches over.

What Draco says comes close to the truth I think, every person may have very carnal fantasies, which is fine, but not every person has fantasies that would compromise Human Rights.

I'll be brutally honest about this...

Imagination is a measure of one's limits...

Hannible Lector din just pop into some writer's head...

He was created as a persona of that person, an avatar of a desire of the carnal kind...

Imagination is the limit you can accept, to push that limit is to challenge your morals...

Many and even most people are very limited in scope above the 'has been done before', few ever go beyond to the 'what could be happening'...

Imagination is most rampant in youth, but eventually gets tamed into a socially acceptable level...

However there are among us individuals who have not limited the scope of their imaginations and in turn the limits of their morals...

Most never admit to turning to their innermost desires even to themselves, and the few that do rarely act on them...

Those who do end up in mental wards...

Hey Draco

if I understand you correctly you hold the wide-spread belief that the innermost desires should be forbidden, because they are evil.
That is not necessarily so.
Remember the difference between morally acceptable (morals in the sense of christian purtanist beliefs) and ethically acceptable.

Enacted carnal fantasies would not necessarily hurt anyone, rather the contrary.

There's also this old Freudian cliche from the KUK puritanist monarchy that the desires are sinful and evil.

I don't agree with it.

The difference between individual people is great.

By the way, taming youthful fantasies is nothing I'd ever do personally. That would be a sore loss, make lif less enjoyable and decrease the strengh to weather the hardships in life.

What's disgusting about carnal fantasies, clorinda?
I truly do not understand.
Are you religiously motivated?

Maybe we define "carnal" differently.

I think sexuality is healthy.
Many empiric studies have shown that, too.

Dorothy

Maybe now I understand.

I have not been talking about cannibalism http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/yuck.gif http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/yuck.gif http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/yuck.gif at all, but the topic had changed to fantasies in general in Draco's post.

I talked about fantasies that hurt no one if enacted - quite the contrary.

Ooops, did your entry refer to the first one in the thread ( tlr's tale about the cannibal)?

Did I put my foot in it?
Well, anyway, regrettably I have to leave the internet again.
Thanks for joining me on the Stuttgart-tour.
I hope you had a http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif good time!

I think you misunderstand me Adventurer...

I dont think it should be forbidden, but it is...its a fact...

Im not talking about my beliefs in that, Im talking about basic human nature...

Thank you , Draco.

Maybe less words in what I wanted to say would have been better:

healthy humans have healthy fantasies.
