1. XPand Rally. Beautifull landscapes, and i have no driver's license. :D
2. Devastation. After cripple unbalanced first few levels, it's rocking. The fun is their shots are very good. 3, 4 shots and you're out. Bugs. Machineguns can shoot through walls and ceilings, so you're out before you expect. You see the shadows of enemies on walls in the corridor next to the room where they're waiting for you.
So you're prepared, but 1 shot from one of them popping at your face from a corner is enough to kill you. So you reload before next time. Bingo! Then you get shot from nowhere. After examining it turns out that from the street a automated gun is shooting you from an impossible corner through buildings. So, after 10 attempts you figure the scenario, play it through, and enter the next level by opening the gate with the pair of pincers. :D So you thought, but NO! After the gate, again you're attacked.
After initial disappointment i accepted the game isn't much more than a wicked variation on 'shoot'm up' genre (hoped it had puzzles).
Attack attack attck. A bit like the other game i'm doing also: Gore.
3. Only: Gore is simpler and quicker (don't know how to explain). Gore doesn't run normally on ATI (graphics fall apart) but on nVidia. Oh well, i have both. That is: a Geforce 3 on my old pc. Good thing Gore is OpenGL, Directx8.1.
It is what is says on the box: " 'Pure, simple, and addictive' (adrenaline vault)" True! :D

Because my computer is outdated, I've been buying some oldies cheap from Ebay I've been meaning to try for ages.

I finished "Amerzone" the other day, a quiet adventure. Not quite a Myst clone, but if it certainly smells a bit like Riven in the looks, although puzzles are inventory and toll type. It's quite beautiful, except for the characters (they should have used real life actors, not bad CG) and the cheesy "last words before dying" scenes annoyed me a bit.

Now I'm playing "The Nomad Soul" which is a very eclectic 3D adventure, it seems they wanted to put everything in the same game. I have no idea how sucessful this game was in its days but I find it quite cool so far - very bladerunnerish. It's quite awesome how their faces are realistic and well animated at a such low polygon count.

I finally also got "Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation" today! Which I'm playing for the first time and adoring. :D

I still have Morrowing and Wizardry 8 to finish but I gave them a rest for a while.

Gomes, 'The Nomad Soul' wasn't very successful. You can understand why playing it, it retains too much of the weird french vibe the creators put in. If it'd have been released 5years before, it would've been popular.. or if it's taken it's time and been released for this generations consoles, I also feel the market would've been there.

It's a great game, and I just loved the David Bowe soundtrack (but then i'm a huge fan of his music). Currently after a hiatas the development team who worked on it are making a new game, it has a similar theme but set as a modern detective game.

I'll try to find the info on it, because it looks quite interesting. I think what I loved most about TNS was.. it felt like a bustling metro.

You could talk to people and there were alot of them around. You could get in a cap almost anywhere. It felt like you were wanting around a city rather than the very linear and detacted feeling I get from Half-Life 2's City17.

http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Oh I've been playing Counter-Strike Condition Zero Deleted Scenes for the first time. I was quite surprised at it actually, figured it was going to be some boring Quake 3 clone, but with CS additional levels like the original CZ was; but to my surprise you have some interesting missions.

The designers obviously aren't great at Single Player action, but if some company could built on that using the Source engine now; that would become a very good game. Especially if rather than throwing you into ecclectic non-related missions you went on tours of duty with each of the police forces, that would be awesome.

I was adicted to that game years ago. Did you try the last version of Transport Tycoon, its called LOCOMOTION. It is Transport tycoon on the Rollercoaster tycoon 2 engine. I played it a while a go but it was too easy and it lost his "Transport tycoon touch".
You can be a millionair after 4 years and that is way too easy, there is no challenge anymore :(
But the classic version is the best and still nice to play http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

About the 'deleted scenes' section: don't tell nonsense, Raven-. These are the Half-Life designers who proved their brilliant skills more than once. I have seen this game in my local shop for € 14,95 for some time now, each time thinking 'hmm...looks like nasty fun, shall i buy it...?' It is from Rockstar games (GTA3).

How much fun is it, Thorn? Can you say some more recommending things (honestly)?

Yes, if you buy a headset with a speaker and plug it into your t.v. they can hear you if you whisper, talk, and scream! Also the main character has an earpiece with a guy named "Stalkweather" speaking to him in it. It's really fun because it's like he's talking to you. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Joseph, what do you mean? Like recommend in Manhunt or other games? hehe http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif

edit: btw Joseph, the game is pretty violent but it's nothing you couldn't handle I'm sure. The environments are quite creepy, dark, and some enemies frighten you by jump out of dark corners or sheds and the like. ;)

I have a headset. Do you mean, the characters in the game will react to sounds i make with my voice into the mic?

Thorn
15-05-05, 01:30
Yes, with the mic! Sorry, I couldn't think of the word for it. But it's more complex than that. If you whisper, they'll take a little bit notice. If you scream then you'll shock them! If you just talk, or sing they take a moderate notice. They'll also start talking about you quite a bit. The enemies have conversations with each other. Either about you, someone you killed, or gross personal things. It's really funny. Also if you hide in a shadow they might say "I can hear you, I can smell you!" Most things they say are funny. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Sad that Bungie went on to create Halo, and have totally forgotten about making a sequal.

Also very sad that very very few people ever bought it.

Ahh... you've discovered CounterStrike Condition Zero? That is one of my favourites! Absolutely top-level shooter. The AI is veryvery good. The bots are really smart and wicked.

Mind: they called this part 'Deleted Scenes' for a reason, and this section was too cute to not let us share. TR:AOD isn't half as exciting in gameplay! What? Bleck! Hell no. I hate Counter-Strike Condition Zero.. bored me in less than 5minutes.

This is why Deleted Scene's suprised me, because I enjoyed it. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
However, I don't believe it makes for a good single player experince... The game WASN'T developed by Valve themselves, but an external company who hadn't proven themselves.

While sure each mission was interesting, there was no running storyline. The levels were incohearant. The mission objects were extremely simple and linear.. Hell I would've been happy if there was even ONE find key mission.

The only mission that offered much of a change was the stealth mission through prague. Even that though still relied more on pure action rather than any real puzzles.

I can see it being bloody good, IF it was remade with the Single Player experience in mind rather than the thought that Counter-Strike players have a 5minute attention span. Just because Rounds are that long doesn't mean everyone who plays it wants a similar single player experince.

As for the Multiplayer Bots, the Bot they used had been in the community for over 7 years.. and is based on a Quake2 Scripting Bot called FEAR. Thier source is still years ahead of even Half-Life 2.

I just finished RE4, and it was by far the most incredible, exhilerating, too-perfect-for-words experience EVER!!!

I've never had so much fun playing a game. I wanted to cry when I finished cause I didn't want it to end, I just wanted Ashley to keep getting kidnapped and to just run around blowing people's heads off all day just to see what kind of Plaga would emerge. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/clown.gif

If you haven't played it for some strange reason, do it ASAP! No Excuses!! If you don't have a GC, get it! It's worth it! If you don't have 50 bucks, sell your stuff until you get it! Anything! Just buy this game!!!! I really hope the RE franchise sticks with this game engine for a while, it's too good to replace any time soon. And I hope the ending suggests that the future games will deal with this storyline and all.

Got Act of War!

Its a true RTS masterpiece. Seriously.
Think C&C: Generals but better graphics, better AI, better physics/realism and a damn good story to boot. Live actors with a modern-thriller genre.

Hope they make a sequel!

Well, NOW I'm playing Advent Rising, and it is AWESOME! I know that no one here has played it cause its on Xbox and all, hehe, you're missin out.

It's kinda like Max Payne meets Halo, VERY cool.

It's really pretty

You get cool powers

The gameplay is awesome

And the slow-mo arobatics are the best!

And the other day I finished BloodRayne 2 and I really didn't like it that much. *runs and hides* I dunno, it was good until the twisted park, and then it got repetitive and kinda boring and hard.

I wouldn't call those monsters pretty. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
Is he shooting monsters with his hands in that second screenshot? It seems more effective than his gun on the third one.

I'll have to check that out Catapharact, the models look really good! http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif

Yeah Gomes, in the 2nd pic he's using the Surge power, which basically knocks everything back. It's really cool cause if you do it around glass, everything shatters.
