I prefer Aston Shell (http://www.astonshell.com) to Window Blinds.

I'll post a screenie when I get home.

I prefer using the built-in Windows Styles.
unfortunately the ThemeXP.org community isn't even half as creative as the Aston or Blinds communities.

It's a shame. Still there is that Longhorn Aero pack v9 which is pretty awesome. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

I probably like the built-in version though because it runs smoother and integrates better (oh and is free ;) .. why pay for windows to do something it can already do? heh)

Or am I wrong?

Or am I wrong? Aston is a replacement shell for the Explorer shell. Window Blinds is a GUI mask, which is not as efficient, basically it costs more resources to operate it.

And unless you are only looking at email and posting on forums with your machine, you are taking up valuable resources.

Also, if Aston runs better than Explorer (think about it like a new BMW vs last years Lincoln Town Car, both nice and functional, but only one refined to greatness), its simply better to use it, you lose zero functionality with all aspects of Windows that I have come across.

Anyway, Im typing up a thunderstorm today...I recommend it.

You get a 30 day shareware period, which is plenty to explore the best features of it http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

And if you dont like it, you can simply go back to your old windows, no hassles, no silly uninstalls.

I guess it depends on the system you have...
Aston is quicker on older systems, however I found on my system it was taking longer to draw Windows.. it also caused a quite annoying hang bug, where applications hung or slowed down while new instances were created.

Finally I got sick and tired of the Windows not actually being themed. You have very select applications themed, then the rest were just normal Classic style in the theme's colours.
Bleck!

I'm still in daily email contact with NCSoft about trying to figure out how to get Lineage ][ working again .. as everytime it boots up it now crashes Explorer.

To say I wasn't impressed with Aston, is a bit of an understatement. I'd love to know how to cleanly get it off.. even a restore point didn't do it.

Shell Swapper should have got you back to the old way just fine.

RavenLettan
13-05-05, 10:11
Yeah, I used the Swapper.. it tinkers for a few second. Ask's me to reboot, so do it. Still the problems remain.

Hense why I "tried" to uninstall it. Problem is it still seems to load somehow. Tried checking the Registery, and some searches for it. Nada.

At this point I'll be happy once it's off my system.

Actually Raven i had the same problems, it doesnt seem to like Laptops for me, its fine on my little sisters desktop PC. But it was a pain to un-install. Even though it should of been simple it wasnt.
