Anyone wonder where Lara's gonna be in five years time ? look at Duke Nukem, ten hit games and now I read he's gonna hit the big time in a new movie - do you think Lara's got the same staying power way down the line

Yep, personally I do, bruin. The five-year Next Gen Lara games promise to provide that sort of immersive world, what little I've seen from Core thus far indicates a revolution in adventure/action gaming as radical as the first TR.

Nuttin' agin the Duke, there, but to me he's just another wisecrackin' first person shooter, rather be a space marine myself. The thing to me that differentiates TR and Lara is the detailed framework you get for building a story in your head. You know enough about her to have a detailed idea of what she's like, but like a good book, you can create your own vision. Wit t'Duke, what you see is what you get. Hand-eye coordination trigger fest only.

There are different market segments for these types of games, and just because I like one and not especially the other does not ensure sucess for my favorite. Popularity and gross sales are the name of the game here. Lara has enough fans now, and with the new game and movie will get enough more, so that the only reason I see her saga coming to a premature end is global economic trouble so severe people just don't buy games anymore.

I'm inclined to agree that Tomb Raider will exercise enough improvement to continue it's magnetic and almost hypnotic grasp on it's gaming community.

My only worry is of perpetual harassment, be it postponed launches or poorly constructed platforms, by hardware vendors which continues to harness the financially freeing potential of Eidos Interactive.

My greatest fear would be the future release of Tomb Raider from another publisher.

The Duke doesn't inspire me...just a graphic remake of Doom...TR will survive and I don't think it will be a big deal if Eidos doesn't have their name on it...
