View Full Version : Looking for a media player...
I'm looking for a media player that can play .rpm (RealPlayer) files, that isn't any version of RealPlayer. I'm asking because RealPlayer has a huge problem with streamed files, it skips about sometimes, playing normally then jumping forward to play a few seconds ahead for a second or two, then it jumps back and continues playing where it should be playing. Always had that problem and it's so infuriating! I have to listen to it in .rpm format because it's the "Listen Again" streams on the BBC Radio 1 website. (Incidentally, their web-based media player makes FireFox crash to the desktop when I try to access it, so I pulled the actual URL from the page to play directly in RealPlayer. I just have no luck with it. o_o) http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/c-1.gif
So if anyone can link me to a free media player that can handle .rpm files, I'll be a very happy lizard. :D
I found THIS (http://home.hccnet.nl/h.edskes/finalbuilds.htm#realalt) Can't vouch for it, but still seeking out other players.
Media Player Classic (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=82303&package_id=84358) But I think this might be included in the above download.
[EDIT]This player can apparently play the file types you want, in conjunction with the Real Alternative I've linked to.

Awsomeness! Thanks a lot, downloading now. :D
This is what I use instead of Real Player, which I wouldn't ever install on my PC.
Real Alternative is great for that. You can also get the Quicktime Alternative which works the same way.
http://www.majorgeeks.com has both just use the search box.

WinAMP seems to work fine for me. Dunno if it plays .rpm tho.
That's what i thought too Draco. But i checked, and .rpm is not in its list of associated files. Haven't tried though...

All in all, it's vermin data. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/privateeye.gif
Using it makes me feel like I'm selling my soul for drum & bass. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

Great Gecko http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif I checked this out ages ago, but never got round to actually trying it.
Like tlr, I'd never install Real Player for the same reasons.
