Mine is wait for it:

Moulin Rouge!

It is my favourite because of the story and the music, Ewan McGrecor is my favourite actor and Nicole Kidman.

She was the first woman I fancied.

I would like to know your views on your favourite musical and why!

Tommy
Marvellous rock opera with Elton John, Tina Turner and The Who at their prime, not to mention Eric Clapton and Ann Margret and many more as well. Brilliant!

LOL Net http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/jumper.gif (I have seen it twice, but only on television)

Mine is "The Phantom of the Opera". I just love the music.
I had to wait for more than 10 years before - 2 years back - I finally saw it in London. I know it might sound a bit silly, but the opening gave me goosepimples all over.

And another one I saw a long time back when I was very young and easily impressed was "Jesus Christ - Superstar". I loved it. I still have the LP.

Erm, the west end versions of the Phantom of the Opera and Saturday night fever are fantastic.

Well worth going to see if you are ever in London.

Cats! Went to see it when I was seven - but before I got glasses so all I remember is the music and colours... :(

Sound of Music is close second - I faint with joy at the scenary! :D

You mean live or in movies? I haven't seen any live. :(

I tend to find musicals a bit silly, but I end enjoying them in the end. I always think "God, why are they singing, it's so embarrassing and it makes no sense". :D

Movie versions of the musicals I liked Annie, The Sound of Music, My Fair Lady, Saturday Night Fever, Tommy, Phantom of Paradise (great 70's parody of not only the Phantom of the Opera but the music industry at the time), Jesus Christ Superstar (don't laugh). I haven't watched the more modern ones.

My favourite musical is West Side Story I think. I have always wanted to play Maria ! I was in Oliver once as Nancy and really enjoyed that. I like Seven Brides for Seven Brothers too. Whoops did I just admit that??? http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Cats. I never got to see it live but it was one of the few musicals that I can sit through.

As for TRHPS, i saw it about 3 weeks ago on a 20+ hour coach journey back from Berlin.

My overriding memory is of me after the credits, raising one eybrow and saying, in a quite genuine perplexed feeling "what the hell was that?"

me neither! I was just about to say that.

I'm sure there are reasons to appreciate them... but what kind of world would we be living in if people simultaneously burst into song and knew all the words? That would be just weird.

Of course, I realize it's not supposed to be real... it's a form of art, I know.

lol yeah, that would be rather odd if people started spouting off songs over just anything. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif Like you said though, it's not like real life, so I can understand why people would like them.

It's actually kind of weird that I don't like musicals, because I'm very "artsy" and I appreciate many, many, many forms of art. I just can't get into musicals though... http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

Hehehe. Yeah, they are silly. You have to take them like a huge video clip with a story. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Now even more strange and exaggerated are Bollywood musicals. Everything is so orchestrated. They are spectacularly gradiose but have real funny characters. I only watched one on TV (which had a scene making fun of Sound of Music LOL) and I was blown away.

Definitely Phantom of the Opera. I love 19th century horror stories.

I went to see The Producers in London.
Starring Lee Evans, and lots of other people, the guy in Gimme Gimme Gimme. Nathan Lane was meant to be in it too, but he had to pull out of the performance we were seeing because of an injury.

Haha http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif With all due respect, I think musicals are just... well... odd.

As I said before, I know they are a form of art and there are reasons to appreciate them... just none of them work for me.
