70 Million-Year-Old Prehistoric Bird Found
Professor Vlad Codrea, Romania's top paleontologist, has announced the discovery of a enantiornithine. The prehistoric bird fossil is estimated to be older than 70 million years, and was found complete with egg fragments.
"The discovery is extremely important," Codrea said. "Due to the fragility of the bird skeleton and especially the fragility of the eggs, discoveries like these are very rare."
The find was made near the city of Hateg, about 220 miles northwest of Romania's capital. Professor Codrea, who teaches at the University of Babes-Bolyai in Cluj, has his work partly funded by French and Belgian science and history museums.
