Missing dog took train to York

A dog that went missing from his owner's home in Darlington, was found in York after it hopped on a train.

Bud, a Staffordshire bull terrier, managed to scale the 7ft fence at his home before ending up in the town's railway station.

He jumped on the 5.55am GNER Edinburgh to London service, but hopped off again when the train stopped in York. He was found by station staff.

They checked with North Yorkshire police who'd been told of a dog boarding a train in Darlington.

Bud's owner, Martin Carrick said: "I couldn't believe it when the police rang and said he'd been found in York. I thought someone was winding me up.

"I don't know what else to do to keep him in. I don't think the council will allow us to erect a bigger fence - it's already 7ft!"

He added: "I'm just glad he decided to get off at York. If he'd had a nap he could have ended up in London."
