You should all now see a VAST improvement to the speed of our forum. I'm sorry this has taken so long.

Your new point of entry should be:

The other point of entry will continue to function, tho.

I can't say that I do yet, but then again, I'm on dial-up: maybe that makes a difference? I'd love to have high speed internet!!!

25-10-05, 23:36

Yes I do notice it. :D

Thanks McJ! :D

We're now using a PhP version of our software. Some sections will still use cgi (perl) but most will convert over to PhP, which will be a LOT faster.

Gecko. How was Italy?

25-10-05, 23:46
Yes i notice. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif It has to stay this way for a little bit longer to convince me. :D

[Edit: posting the message took 15 seconds, then to return to the thread another 7 seconds. Hmmm.]

[Edit 2: to open this edit took 2 seconds, posting the first edit took 10 seconds.]

[Edit 3: to post 'Edit 2' took 18 seconds, then 11 seconds to be returned to this thread.]

It was great, thanks. :D

Real Italian food is great. Had pizza every day, if you ever go to Italy try the pizza for sure. :D Weather sucked a bit though, it poured up 'til the second last day, but then we got a bit of sun. The roads over there are wild though. Hundreds and hundreds of scooters and motorbikes. Then there's the street traders who seem to have over-priced souvenirs available for any occasion. Five euros for an umbrella!

25-10-05, 23:48
Yes, yessss it works faster! (at least mostly) Great! http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif

Well, it's a start. At least we're heading in the right direction now. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Good work tlr. I can't say that I have noticed a vast improvement yet but I think that is because the forum is quiet right now.

The real test will be when the official site updates again and we start to get swamped with thousands of visitors. Then we will hopefully notice the difference (I never want to see that damn 'FYI load balancing' thing ever again).

Oh yeah, I also hope that cow has been hamburger-ised!!!

The quickest point of entry will now be:

but the old perl point of entry will still function:

26-10-05, 00:16
Ok, I have been cruising about the forums and I definately see the difference now. Oh yeah!!!

26-10-05, 00:49
For me it's been slow for some reason, I'm on dial-up though. My other computer had a bit of a meltdown. :(

26-10-05, 00:58
I notice the difference, quicker.

26-10-05, 00:58
Yes, it is definitely faster for me (at least at the moment). http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v506/Gabicats/Smilies/clap.gif
Thank you tlr.

Any chance that the facility to see who is online ( I can't remember the proper term for it) will be enabled again? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v506/Gabicats/Smilies/flirt.gif

Yup. I can enable Currently Browsing, but if things slow up, then I'll have to kill it till the new server is ready. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif

great that its faster now http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
now the only thing i think is in need of an update, is the avatar choosing menu. maybe with letters so u can jump to one letter instead of looking a 30 at a time and click next. that takes a while if your name doesnt begin with A... ;)
apart from that, i like the forum the way it is now; the blue theme, quicker, search function back and the new calender http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif

Did not notice that much last night, but this morning it seems to be quite fast, must of been busy.

It's been a couple of days now. How is everyone finding the general speed?

27-10-05, 22:27
Generally I would say it is definitely faster for me.
Yet sometimes it still takes absolutely ages to post or preview a reply ( on those occasions I can almost catch a glimpse of the cow ;) ) .

Edit: Like now, for example

I've just made a few adjustments and removed a few subroutines. That should make a difference also.

At any rate, a new server and software will completely resolve the problem, so again I ask you all to continue to support us by keeping our fine forum as your home. Your patience will be rewarded.

27-10-05, 23:45
Not only I see no quicker forums, but I get this load balancing screen and it keeps me there for like 20 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't seem to use the search function-keep getting a message saying that the page does not exist. Is this to do with these recent changes? And will it be restored at some point?

trl, can you delete the older version?
Sometimes when I go to the php page, it takes me to the old one and I don't know why...
