August 30, 2005 - The Hollywood Reporter breaks the news that Oscar-nominated screenwriter Paul Haggis (Million Dollar Baby) has been hired to revise the screenplay for Sony and MGM's next James Bond movie, Casino Royale.

Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, who wrote the last two Bond flicks, penned the initial adaptation of Ian Fleming's first 007 novel. Martin Campbell is attached to direct for producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson.

Haggis, who wrote and directed the recent hit Crash, also recently scripted Clint Eastwood's forthcoming screen adaptation of Flags of Our Fathers.

The trade doesn't mention when Casino Royale will go before cameras but adds that the arduous search for the next (and younger) James Bond continues.

I like Bond movies, but I hope they'll choose a more traditional approach with the next one. Since Tomorrow Never Dies Bond movies have just been average action flicks.
