THE woman dubbed Scotland's real-life Lara Croft is to make a daredevil trip to the Antarctic. Adventurer Polly Murray, 29 - the first Scotswoman to climb Everest - is part of a team that will sail, dive, ski and climb in some of the world's most inhospitable locations.

Following the route pioneered by explorer Ernest Shackleton, the group will sail from the tip of South America to Elephant Island before heading for South Georgia. Some of the climbs will see Polly tackling peaks never scaled before.

Polly, from Perthshire, who is a former pupil of Gordonstoun, will be joined on the trip by Chris Tiso, head of the outdoor clothing firm. Chris and Polly dreamed up the expedition while they were on Everest together in 2001. He said: "We will have to contend with difficult and changeable conditions but these factors are what will make this journey the challenge of a lifetime.

"Elephant Island holds particular interest for me as it was where Shackleton's men spent four months living under their lifeboats waiting to be rescued by the man himself when he returned from his historic and extraordinary passage to South Georgia Island." Polly said: "I think it is going to be horrendous. It will be very demanding."
