View Full Version : I'm going CAMPING!!
In a mere few hours, I'll be leaving for the weekend to go camping with my boyfriend and his family (well, part of it), along with some of their friends. Hurrah! :D
I haven't been camping in over TWO years, and the last time it was partly ruined by someone with us I didn't quite get along with (not that we fought or anything... heh).
Unfortunately, I won't be able to go swimming - doctor's orders. I had some surgery recently so I'm at risk of getting infected, apparently for the next two weeks :( That's a shame because our lakes are so nice. I wish we at least had a raft.
But Canada has such BEAUTIFUL mountains, forests, etc... I've never been to an ugly camping spot. Everywhere there's something nice to look at. I also love checking out the tourist shops, even though I'm not really a tourist http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif They always have really neat stuff there.
I love camping, being close to nature, going for long walks/hikes, etc (well, I've never run into any wildlife, except birds and harmless stuff).
Anyone want pictures? :D

Yeah, I remember the first time I went camping and I had no understanding of the fact that in a tent, you need lots of blankets to stay warm at night http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif
So we didn't bring blankets, and consequently I (dunno about the other tent occupants) froze and woke up about 20 times (I'm not kidding!) during the night. I still have no idea how I got back to sleep each time.
Hah, well this time we're sleeping in a trailer. It's not huge or extravagant, but it's nothing I'm used to simply because I always slept in tents before. It has mattresses, and even has a sink and plug-ins for electricity!! Well, the sink only means anything if you have a water source http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif
My boyfriend was absolutely SPOILED when he went camping... at least, compared to me.
I kept saying "but... that's not 'roughing' it! it's like bringing a miniature house!" and he of course said "Yeah it is... I don't get to bring my computer, and we won't have cable!" which made me laugh hysterically. Silly boy http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

We didn't end up going to the mountains as I had originally hoped :(
I don't know if you know Alberta very well (chances are you don't), but from where I am, you'd need to go west to reach the mountains. I knew something was amiss right away when we started heading north!
So what's north? A long drive (1-2 hrs) through a lot of small towns. Interspersed with farms, rolling hills, trees, and COWS! So basically it was a long drive to a place I wouldn't have wanted to visit, because immediately outside my city limits is, of course, farms and cows!
I've been camping near the mountains before and I loved it. The last campsite I went to (before this weekend) had a beautiful lake, only a short walk away, with mountains set close in the background. Not to mention the trees were beautiful, and we went on a nice 14km hike up a mountain :D Next time, I'm going back there and I WILL have better pictures!
I enjoyed this trip in some ways because it meant getting away from the city, but there really wasn't much to see (besides - you guessed it - cows). Consequently, I don't have many pictures because there wasn't much of interest... but I will post what I have soon. I wish they at least had a tourist shop, but then again those only tend to pop up in the nicest camping spots. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif
Our campsite gave me a very bad allergic reaction because it was absolutely full of grass and all sorts of plants (the campgrounds I'd been to before had less grass and more trees). So for the whole stay, I had a very closed up throat and a consistently stuffy nose. Not a big deal, but it made it hard to sleep at night.
The campsites weren't very private or very pretty, and the people who camped there had HUGE trailers/motor homes and even generators! It didn't make for a lot of sightseeing, that's for sure. Even the lake there wasn't very appealing, as it had some bits of foam on the shoreline.
It rained lots, too! Twice, both times at night. I guess that didn't bother me too much, I do like rain. It made it a little difficult because the first time, we weren't prepared for it.
I had fun, but it would've been more interesting to me if we had gone to somewhere like the campsite I went to before.
