Hi guys
Ive heard you guys talking about completing tr games without using medipaks and it sounds great fun. could we do with TR1? I wanna start on somthing basic.
Yup, yup. Some of us are thinkin' bout it right now. Mayhaps after everyones finnished TRC HC Mode and a Thread created, plus getting TR1 loaded and working on PC's *shivers*. I'm watching this space too! http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
Yes, our next HC challenge will be TR1/HC after TRC/HC.
So, please wait until all players finish TRC/HC, and i'll create a new thread - Tomb Raider 1 / HC Mode ;)

How on earth did you guys do chronicles the VCI levels are tough as it is but with no MEDIPACKS!
Yes, I might be tempted to do some proper Tomb Raidering! The original is still my favourite adventure.

Hi Sarah, Playstation is fine.
I've just fired up the game to see if it still works with XP and it does. I had to reinstall VDM Sound though, and I'm not using Glidos. It works fine, although you miss the sound and the wonderful musical interludes.

George, without Glidos you have 320x240 resolution only or you can set the game to run on 640x480?
Hi Bokkie, I have the original Unfinished Business in that nice double CD case, and I seem to have 6 resolution settings.
In game I can press F1 which toggles between high and low resolution, and then pressing Escape and using the Details level in the menu I have a choice of low, medium or high for both. So the game looks okay in high.
It's just the sound that lets it down, but I can live with that.

GeorgeM, i have the original TR1 CD (without Unfinished Business), but under Win2000 without Glidos i can not get higher resolution than 320x240 even by pressing F1 :(
BTW, you can resolve your sound problems by installing VDM Sound and VDMS LauchPad (http://ntvdm.cjb.net/), so you can get sound effects in the game. All you need to do after installing VDMSound is to start TOMB.EXE with right click:

Using Windows XP, I just spent the last 3 hours playing with TR1 + VDMSound + GliDos.
I can install and run TR1 no problem, change the res with F1, and the Glasses to High as GeorgeM says. Game works ok, but no sound.
Then added the VDMSound and VDMSound Lanch pad, right click the "Run with VDMS (with Muiscal notes icon)". Game runs with sound now, but no CD Audio. I right click the shortcut that VDMSound created and ticked the box "Enable Low level CDROM". Still no CD Sound.
I dug around and found this at the VDMSound forums.

You need GLIDOS for the ingame (CD music)
TR uses CD functionality (seek, etc.) that is not properly supported by Windows, so GLIDOS includes a workaround for that. VDMSound doesn't deal at all with the audio-CD part since Windows is supposed to do that. Ive install GLiDOS, used the Voodoo exe verison, and used GLiDOS to lanch the game. Smoother Graphics now, the sounds a bit crackerlly but still no CD Audio.
GLiDOS FAQ
No music. Since version 1.10, Glidos has provided a new feature that should restore the atmosperic music effects that were previously lost under Windows 2000 and XP. If this feature does not work for you, check that you are putting the Tomb Raider CD in your primary CD drive, and check also that you can play Audio CDs in that drive. If you can't play CDs: check your audio mixing settings; try altering the "digital audio" setting for the drive; and check you have an internal cable joining your CD drove to your sound card.I installed CloneCD with Virtual CD Drive awhile back, I have just uninstalled it rather than mess about with drive letters and the CD Music is Ok now. Most likely an Orange Book rule thing.
One last thing to cure is the Keyboard Delay. I noticed after installing GLiDOS in the Inventory the Keyboard has a big delay before something happens on screen. I was just curious to see if I could get it runing in XP and write what I had done in the hopes it might help someone.
I don't think I'm going to join you on TR1. I only played it as recently as November, and I'm a bit tired of most of the games to be honest. After TRC, I don't want to play any of the first 5 again until at least 2004.
I'm also very pressed for time at the moment. I'll probably still be playing TRC when you lot are on TR1. I could rush TRC, but I want to take my time on these last few levels and get as many secrets as I can without using the walkie.

Yes, I have created some. But I haven't uploaded them yet :D 'cause I don't like them... I was ready to upload my last one but it crashed :( I started creating a new one a couple of weeks ago. I hope I'll finish it!!

Just to update, I cured the keyboard delay now. Using v1.21 (plus the standard PollPipe.dll that comes wit it) instead of v1.22

Azarhya: has GliDOS a 1.21 version? I couldn't download it. So I missed it? I have all versions since 1.5, so I feel myself a bit frustrated. Today I downloaded 1.22, and it works fine with my XP...
About TR1+Gold HC... The problem is that it's very hard to authenticate that You finished it without any medipacks, because the poor program doesn't count how medis did You use up. I finished them also in HC, and I took 5 Statistic/Inventory screenshot after each level to make my game trackable. I also picked up every pickups, so if You follow the ammount of my Small/Large medis, then You can be sure...
I'll upload all of my TR1 screens somewhere, or at least some levels' screenshots... I also used a savegame editor, but only for analyzing (for the screenshots), it's called TombEdit 3.2.3, which displays so much things from a saved game... I dont think we should worry about not being able to see how many medipaks are being used on the stats we will just have to trust each other i mean playstation users cant actually PROVE their stats. And even with the other games you cant PROVE from the stats who used unlimited ammo cheats. If some people arnt actually playing the game in HC mode its thier problem. At least i know i wont be cheating

Guys and girls, maybe we should play Tomb Raider IV - The Times Exclusive in HC mode, (just for practice) until we start TR1/HC? It's one level only and can be finished less than one hour! ;)

Angel, You're fully right, but I just told something: I did that when I made this mission, and I found interesting to track my progression. But I also remember that my TR1+Gold HC presentation was the biggest ZIP what I uploaded (about 3.4 MB). So I agree that it would've been enough unpleasent to present 5 screenies from each levels... :D

- No cheating
- No medipacks
- All secrets

Actually Elen, I've only done TR1 & 2 without saving (and only TR1 without medipaks). When I did TR1, I actually did save twice because I was either going out or going to bed!, but I never saved mid-level.
Strangly, I'm looking forward to doing it again mind you, but seeing as I'll be doing it on PlayStation, I'd better make a note of all the stats along the way... better make it sooner rather than later, I doubt it'll get musch of a look-in when AOD comes out.

I actually do most of the games with pistols only anyway, thinking there's some big beastie just around the next corner that'll need some serious firepower to kill.
I was thinking more along the lines of that mutant thingumy in TR1 that you have to kill after you've reclaimed the scion from natla - that thing takes ages with the Uzi's!!
You can't tell me that killing TR2's dragon or TR3's spider is a peice of cake with pistols!

Ya The only thing that will be hard is to kill the alantians in TR1 with the pistols esspecially the flying ones? man also the lions and gorrillas I hate the gorrillas.
Pistols only is pretty easy going until you get to atlantis. My usual tactic is to conserve ammo until I get there.

I think tr1 is actually quite easy with the pistols.
I only ever use the other weapons when I have to ;)
