Nintendo, creator of "Pokemon" video games, said on Thursday its flagship GameCube console would miss its shipment target by over 10 percent this business year, hit by weak demand and the rival PlayStation 2. Shipments of software for the GameCube are also likely to fall short of the 55 million units planned for the 2002/03 business year to March, Satoru Iwata, Nintendo's president, said in an interview.

But Iwata said sales of Nintendo's Game Boy Advance handheld console - a stable profit generator - were strong during the holiday season, helped by smash-hit Pokemon titles newly released in November. Iwata also said the company was developing a next-generation home video game console. Nintendo is looking at the possibility of launching it in 2005 or 2006, he said.

All I can say is, if Nintendo doesn't do something drastic, their home consoles are going the way of the Dreamcast. Here's an idea: offer games that people want to play http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif .
