Error PLEASE help!

I've recently loaded up tr2 onto my new pc windows xp cos the games so amazing, but when i complete the first level after showing my stats it quits the game and comes up with the message:

FATAL:Level 2(D:\data\boat.TR2) requires a new TOMB2.EXE (version 1557287) to run

What should i do HELP!

which patch from the list is need to fix the above problem, and where do i save it to? Do i save it with the rest of the core design stuff of TR2? HELP me please!!!

The revised tomb2.exe can be downloaded HERE (http://www.tombraiderchronicles.com/cgi-bin/downloads2/dl.pl?ut_tr2_tr2) - once you've downloaded it, overwrite your original tomb2.exe with the newly downloaded version. If you are running Windows XP, you might also try using the newly installed compatibility feature. Open Windows Explorer and browse to your Tomb Raider (ver.) folder. Then locate the game executable, typically tomb4.exe, pctomb5...etc. Right mouse click on the EXE file and select properties, then select the Compatibility tab and choose "Run this program in compatibility mode for..." and select operating system.

Still having trouble...i downloaded the necessary patch but i still can't access level 2...and i'm not sure if i installed the patch correctly. I'm very bumed. i quite like every TR game i've ever played. hope some one has a tip or answer to this.

Hi Sadowsky...

The patch is a new "tomb2.exe" file. You have to place it where you have installed the game (C:\ Program Files\ Core Desing\ TR2 folder) replacing the one you have. Before doing that, can you tell us what OS are you running??

OS is Windows XP. as for the folder do you mean in the TR2 folder or under Core Design?

Before replacing do this: go tou your C:\ Program Files\ Core Desing\ TR2 folder (or wherever you have installed TR2). Right click "tomb2.exe", select "Properties" and select the "Compatibility" tab. In the "Compatibility mode" click <Run this program in cmpatibility mode for> and select "Windows 98\ Windows ME". Hit <Apply> and then <Ok>...

Althought I don't know what did you do (replaced tomb2.exe or run the compatibility mode??), load the latest savegame and try to skip the first level...

Ok... If you ran the compatibility mode without replacing the tomb.2 exe file, boot the game, load the latest savegame (the one just before skipping the first level) and try to skip the fisrt level... http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

When I say "skip" the level, I mean to try to change the level. Your problem is that you can't access the second level. When you tried to do that, you got a "Fatal" error, right?? Now that you have run the compatibility mode, boot the game and load the latest savegame. Logically, the latest savegame is before changing level. Play the game trying to skip to the next level... If you saved the sownloaded somewhere else, there is no problem, don't worry. You just have a spare file somewhere. If you ran the compatibility mode, then you know where tomb2.exe file is. Copy the file that you downloaded and paste it in the folder where you found tomb2.exe

it never asked me if i wanted to replace anything, and i just noticed my FATAL ERROR message reads differently. it say i need version 1516943...the one at the top of this page is different...does that mean anything?

Didn't ask you to replace anything?? :eek: Are you sure that you pasted the file that you downloaded in the correct folder?? Ok, does "tomb2.exe" has a pic of Lara on it?? This is what you should see. This is the file where you had to run the compatibility mode on. The number of the Fatal error differs...

This has happened a lot of times and people that had WinXP managed to solve the problem by running the compatibility mode. Are you sure that you ran the compatibilty on the correct file??

think i fixed it for now i managed to get to level 3. :D
