View Full Version : XP TR3 and 4 problems
Hi all,
I have just bought the first 4 tomb raiders for a grand total of £6 from ebay so I'm not that bothered if I can't get them to work. At the time of writing I have received 3 and 4 but can't get them to work properly.
I have used the compatibility feature on XP but to no avail.
I also have tried the patches from tombraiderchronicals.com although I have to confess I don't know what they mean by "make sure you back up first"
Without the patch on TR3 I have sound but no picture. With the patch I get a message saying "Tomb Raider,CD?"
On TR4 I have no luck at all either with or without the patch.
I have a GF4 MX440 card if that is any help.
Please tell me what I'm doing wrong as I know I'm to have the same problems when the other 2 games arrive.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Lee. Welcome to the forum. Can you give me driver details of your videocard? Right mouse click on desktop, select properties, settings, advanced and adapter info. Note to this thread what's listed there. Welcome again.
I think I'm going to sound just a little bit on the dumb side here..........
The adaptor information has 'unavailable' next to all titles in the window.
I am a console player rather than a pc gamer so could you tell me what this means please

Hello Lee. I suspect you need to upgrade your video card drivers. Please follow my instructions above and record the information here. You will find details if you follow my instructions above.
Unavalible  that sounds strange, if you follow tlrs instuctions you should have all the adapter info (mem size, BIOS info etc...)
Are you sure you video card is working correctly?
I've followed your instructions and when I have come to the adapter tab I have in the adapter information ie.chip type, DAC type etc unavailable written next to each of these subjects.
I have also clicked on the properties button within the adapter tab and come to a window titled VGAsave properties. At the bottom on the right of this window is an unavailable button called driver details which I imagine is what you've been trying to get me to find (lol i'm no good with computers).
As this button is unavailable to me I guess I haven't got what you're asking me for.
Does this mean that I haven't got a video card?
Thanks for your assistance although I imagine that I'm quite hard work http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/redface.gif
OK where did you get your PC? Was it shop bought or did you have one custom made?
Shop.Currys to be precise, The model is Packard Bell iMedia5093
You wanna give em a buzz. It sounds like your BIOS arn't set up correctly. You could probably do it yourself but if you dont know what your doing you could mess up your puter.
i'll have a look, thanks for your help
I've had a look on the BIOS settings in the plug and play menu where I would imagine it would be but the VGA is set to auto. I've also had a look on a GeForce forum: http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/content/topic/3365/
which suggests that my card doesn't run DirectX games.
The more I look into it the more confused I get.
But I would imagine that you are right if I can't see what the driver details are.
At the risk of sounding like Penelope Pitstop:
HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPP

Lee. Can you confirm your videocard is an nVIDIA MX440? If so, go to www.nvidia.com (http://www.nvidia.com) and download the latest drivers (41.03). From the main site, select drivers and then choose your operating system (version of Windows), your video card (440) and then click to download. You'll download a setup.exe file to your computer. Once this has finished downloading, run the setup file and follow on-screen instructins. Reboot and you're done.
Hi again
I've installed the drivers you listed above and hey presto it works!! :D (On TR3 anyway, havent tried the others)
Thankyou very much for your help, I had no idea what to do and without your help I would have probably sold them again on ebay!!
Well I'll probably be visiting you lot again as I now have the first 4 Tomb Raiders to work through and the new one's out soon too. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif Fantastic.
Best Regards to all
