View Full Version : TR4 on Windows 2000
I have downloaded the patch for Tomb Raider 4 for Win2000, I replaced my original Tomb4.exe for the one I downloaded, but it keeps asking me for the CD, I put the CD in, but it keeps asking and asking for it, no matter how many times I click on "retry"..... am I doing something wrong??....do I have to download something else or what???
I used to have Win98 on this same computer and it always work perfectly.....
Please help!!
Looks like your CD-ROM drive isn't seeing the CD media in it. Queston. whats the condition of the disc itself? Usually if a disc is damaged, the CD-ROM won't see the disc and bring a message like "Please Insert disk in drive E:"( or whatever Windows assigned your CD/DVD-ROM to be)
What you also want to do, is check to make sure you aren't having any type of hardware conflict. To do that, go to My Computer>Properties>Device Manager and collapse the the CD-ROM tree. If you see something like a yellow circle with a "!" or "?" then you have some kind of conflict and need to remove the disc drive and let Windows reinstall it. To do that , locate your CD-ROM again in the Device Manager,righ-click and move down to the Remove option. Restart your computer, and Windows would automatically re-install it.
You can also try without patch ;)
All you need to do is to start the game in compatibility mode. Because you have Windows 2000, a SLAYERUI DllServer sould be registered to enable Compatibility Mode in Windows 2000 http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
Please read this thread (http://www.tombraiderforums.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=11;t=000539) to see how Compatibility Mode can be enabled and how the game can be started in Compatibility mode.
Good luck!

Thanx a lot... I will try both http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/bash.gif
My CD-ROM seems to be working fine. When I try to start the game it asks me for the Tomb Raider - The Last Revelation CD, I put it in and the installation program begins, so I think the cd it's ok........
And with the Compatibility Mode, how do I know if I have a Service Pack? Sorry for the silly question, but I don't know!!! :(
I clicked START, then RUN I typed in: cmd.exe, clicked OK, typed cd %systemroot%\apppatch and pressed enter, then typed: regsvr32 slayerui.dll and pressed ENTER and instead of getting the message: DllRegisterServer in slayerui.dll succeeded, I got: LoadLibrary ("slayerui.dll") failed - No se puede encontrar el módulo especificado.
Does this means I don't have that Service Pack installed or what????
Help again!!
Please
Well, in that case you probably don't have Service Pack 2 or higher installed. Right click on My Computer and choose Properties.
The following data should be displayed:
Microsoft Windows 2000
Build 2195
Service Pack X (where x=1..4)
If you don't see Service Pack X, then you don't have any service pack installed. If you have Service Pack 1, you need at least Service Pack 2 to get compatibility mode.
To get the newest Service Pack 4 for Windows 2000, click here (http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/downloads/servicepacks/sp4/default.asp)
Thanx again
Right now I´m downloading the SP4 express installation...
http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/bash.gif
Why does the express installation of the SP4 asks me to make a security copy of my sistem???? http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/yikes.gif
Is this safe??
Isn´t an easiest way to play my TR4??
HELP AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!
Service Pack 4 for Windows 2000 is an big system update for all bugs that were found. You can safely install SP4 on your system.
You can also archive the files (there is an option in SP installation) for eventually uninstallation of SP4 later.
This update will help your Windows work even better http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
Hi there:
I've been trying to download the SP4 for the last few days and I couldn't, but today I finally could!! :D
The problem is that it will take 849 min to finish it, hope my connection doesn't betray me.
Oh and by the way, the properties of my computer are:
System:
Microsoft Windows 2000
5.00.2195
I hope this info helps you to help me :D !!!
And, I almost forget! I tried to play my the rest of my TR Games and this is what happens:
TR1: doesn't work, it didn't work in Win98 so I
don't care much about this one.
TR2: Works perfect!!!
TR3: happens the same that with Last Revelation
TR3 Gold: the same as TR4 and TR3.
TR5: Works perfect!!!
How could it be? the TR2 is the oldest and it works fine...
Hope you can help me out with these too, please!
Thanx a lot
Paola
It finally worked!!!

Hello jlpicard!!
I got TR4 working, TR3 & TR3Gold haven't try yet 'cause I'm starting to play AOD. (yeah yeah I spent almost 3 weeks trying to run my TR4 and when I finally get it working I buy the AOD!!! )
I had to download the Service Pack 4 for Win2000 so I could use Compatibility Mode and run the game, it was easy for me, with, of course Bokkie's help, so I hope it will be easy for you too http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
Good luck!!! :D
