View Full Version : naughty playstation.
i recently bought tr2 and it not really working on my ps2. i have a ps1 mem card to use with it and some of the time the game works, but the rest of the time i end up at the browser menu. i then select that, and it says "Disc read error" i'm pretty sure theres nothing wrong with the disc cause ive checked it and its not scratched or dirty. my ps2 is fine with other ps2 games. Can some one help me?
The disc could still be damaged, even though you can't see anything. All I can suggest is that you gently clean the disc and the PS2 lens.

My brain just isn't working today I think. Something else that it may be. A misaligned lens. Ater a time the lens can become misaligned, causing read errors with certain discs. The only way to fix this is to send it off to Sony to repair (at a possible cost to you), or open it and repair it yourself (at the risk of permanently damaging your PS2). This is of course assuming that it is a misaligned lens.
Google for 'PS2 read error' there are plenty of pages out there about this. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
Are you sure that you got the Playstation version of TR2 and not the PC version? Is there a Playstation logo on the CD?
Also you could use Nero CD-DVD Speed or KProbe2 on your PC to check to see if your disk has read errors.

thx neteru ill try and clean the disc but how do i clean my ps2?
db, its DEFINETLY a ps game.
neturu if those things dont work ill try and find out how you sort out a "misaligned lens"
If you have one of the new "slimline" PS2s you can just open the lid and clean the lens with cotton swab and alchohol. If it's the old model, you'll need to use a lens-cleaning kit. It's a special CD with a cloth surface that you wet with alchohol before inserting.
Before attempting to realign the lens, I strongly suggest you check the CD in your PC with one of the programs I suggested earlier. Lens realignment is a tricky and involved procedure, and can mess up your system worse if done wrong. If the problem is a bad CD, better to find that out first. You could also put the TR2 CD in a friend's PS1 or PS2 and see if it works there.
