View Full Version : Long level loading time

14-10-04, 18:08
Hi everyone http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif

I have to ask you to be so kind and help me yet again:
I have just started to play TR4 and everything is fine except for the long time it takes for the levels to load (30 + seconds).
In the first 3 games I never had to wait such a long time.
Is there a way to fix this? Or do I just have to be more patient?
Thanks for any suggestions

Levels in TRLR are much bigger than they were before so it probably isn't anything wrong with your machine.

14-10-04, 18:39
Are you running XP Gabi? There is a patch available here (http://www.tombraiderchronicles.com/windowsxp.html). But I'm not sure if it will improve loading times. Give it a whirl.

Hi GABI http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif
If the patch that Neteru guided you to doesn't work for you, the other version of the same patch will. Because there exist 2 versions, and either one or the other works. I needed the other myself, and it works a treat!
So if you need it, just let me know.

Thank you all for your help.

Errrrrmmm http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/redface.gif

I have downloaded the patch that you recommended, Net, and I have extracted the files (2).
Now what do I do?
I guess that somehow I will have to change the version that I am playing currently for the one I have just downloaded, but the latter only gives me the option to start a new game. I would rather pick up with the patch where I left (burial chambers).
So, is that possible and if yes: how do I do it?

(Sorry, but I am really no good on the "technical" bits) http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/redface.gif http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/redface.gif http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/redface.gif

Hello GABI. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif Just as the readme says:

To install the patch copy the tomb4.exe from the folder created on your
desktop (C:\WINDOWS\Desktop\tomb4patch-Note-Do not run the game from this folder)
to the directory when the game is installed.

(by default C:\Program Files\Core Design\Tomb Raider - The Last Revelation)

Please ensure that you run Setup before playing the game.

IMPORTANT NOTE: When the patch is installed, your old save game files
will no longer work correctly.
So, you install the patch by replacing the old tomb4.exe by the new one (if you want to save your old one, simply rename it to 'oldtomb4.exe').
Easiest is to copy the NEW tomb4.exe to the folder where your tombraider 4 is located, it will ask if you want to replace it, you answer by YES.

Alas, your old savegames will not work anymore. But hey, you like tombraiding, don't you? http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

Again, GABI, depending on which version of TR4 you have (yes there are more american, different european), this patch will either work or not. If it doesn't, let me know and i'll send you the other version of the patch.

Hi Joseph http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif

I have just followed your advice, but the patch does not solve my problem - the game still takes a long time to load.
So - if you want to, you can post me that other patch you mentioned, but there is no hurry at all. On Monday I will go on holiday and I still have a lot of things to do beforehand, so I won't be able to dedicate much time to Lara and raiding anyway.
But many thanks for your help http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/hug.gif

15-10-04, 20:01
Hi GABI, i still would like you to confirm that this other patch works, and it would be a pleasure for yourself also to know before you go on holidays wouldn't it? i'll send you the other patch right away. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif and i hope you can confirm.

Good morning Joseph!

Where is my patch (" i'll send you the other patch right away")????

16-10-04, 13:13
Goodday GABI. Check your PM please. ;)

http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/whistle.gif http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/whistle.gif

i had not checked my e-mail yet - I do apologize http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/redface.gif

I have downloaded the patch and extracted the files and I will test it in a moment.
I will keep you posted with the results. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif

It is brilliant - fantastic - excellent!!!!
http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/jumper.gif http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/jumper.gif http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/jumper.gif

The levels now take hardly any time to load at all and -as a bonus- the sound is slightly better as well.
I am at the valley of the kings already, so I am back to where I left last night but without the annoying side effects.
Thank you ever so much http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif

Where on earth do you get all these answers to our problems? And how do you remember it all??

16-10-04, 16:33
Im happy for you it worked, GABI ! http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif

16-10-04, 17:11
Glad it's worked for you Gabi http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif

Joseph http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif What is this other patch and where'd you get it?

16-10-04, 17:17
Hi Net. I got it from another website. It is a newer version of the same patch, modified by the author himself to work on all european versions of tr4. I hope it will be available on trchronicles soon, or i'll offer it for download on my website.

*edit: no, i must say i got it from a dear member, who got it from that other website. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif

Hi Joseph!

looks like I may need that alternative patch too, as although improved over the original game file, the TRC v1.1 patch still hangs quite a bit during level loading.

Any chance you can email it or provide a link to the website?

17-10-04, 18:54
PM me your email adress, Pete. ;)

17-10-04, 22:51
Hi Joseph,

I too am suffering from long load times on TR4 and TRC.

Those new patches could help me out too. I'll pm you my email address I'd be most grateful if you could send them to me. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

18-10-04, 21:53
Thanks Joseph, http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif

The new TR4 exe cured the long load times. I managed to find a new exe for TRC which cured my load load times there too (it's a good job my French is up to scratch). ;)

19-10-04, 00:24
Thanks for letting us know, Paulie. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif

Thanks to Joseph and TLR the v1.2 patch is now available on TRC.

Just downloaded the v1.2 patch from TRC...Crikey talk about fast!!

The bizarre thing is, I've just returned to playing any TR game after about a years absence. Looking through my profile I noticed it keeps a list of previous posts and what do I find? a number of posts regarding TLR level loading speeds where I was getting no probs at all (must have been on the v1.1 patch) on what was the machine I'm still using, albeit with Xp reloaded and an additional hard-drive and a few PCI bits'n'bobs (plus updates of course - excepting SP2).

Most strange.

Anyway thanks to all who helped make the patch available!

19-10-04, 20:59
Glad we (Joseph) could be of help. I'd better try the patch out myself......

19-10-04, 21:18
WOW................... That is fast. Reload is 2 seconds

14-07-05, 12:44

I still experience long loading times with Tomb Raider 5.
Load a savegame = 30 sec
Exit to main menu (every time I die) = 10 sec

and there are some other problem.
When load a savegame from main menu the sreen flickering. It's very annoying. The ingame manus (inventory/save/load and menu by P) contain vertival yellow lines in 1024x768. In 1280x1024 there are no such lines.

Can somebody help me?

14-07-05, 13:31
Hi kali, welcome to the forum.

If you are running the game on XP, have you tried the XP patch available for download }HERE (http://www.tombraiderchronicles.com/windowsxp2.html){? It is designed to fix problems with running the game at high resolutions.

14-07-05, 16:02
Yes I use XP and the XP patch. Without it the game won't start.
So it's a good thing but not good enough.
What else should I try?

14-07-05, 16:05
You could try updating your graphics card drivers for the display problems.

As for the loading time, I am not aware of any patch to speed that up unfortunately. All I can suggest is try to shut down any unnecessary programs you may have running in the background when you play, see if that makes any difference. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

14-07-05, 18:27
I installed Catalyst 5.7
No graphics change and now I have to wait longer.
At least is it possible to avoid loading the main menu when I die?

I didn't say when I start the game after the vidos the main menu appear immediately.
When I press P and select to return the main title it also appear immediately.
But when if I die then have to wait 10-15 sec.

Load a savegame and the loading bar immediately reach 90% then wait 30- or more sec before start the level.

Do not possible to edit some file or something to make it work correctly??

Anyway, thank you for trying to help.

14-07-05, 18:47
If you are quick enough, press F6 to access the load game screen directly. But you're still going to have the load game delay sadly.

I do have this same problem myself, but knowing there's no patch to fix it, I simply have to live with it.

Maybe Sim or Joseph will come up with some ideas when they're logged on later. They know about Catalyst drivers and ATI cards. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

I have a quick load patch for Chronicles that works for me that I could email to you tomorrow night if you like. Just PM me your email address. I actually got it from here, but can't find it anywhere on the site now. Perhaps Joseph or someone knows where to find it?

Thank you.
I don't understand why this file can't be found anywhere.

Did you get the email I sent? I got a message today that the email was undelivered. Should I resend it?

try simulation@tombraiderforums.com

21-07-05, 21:18
Just sent another email

26-07-05, 22:11
I just got a message that the email could not be delivered. Do still want the file? If so, I'll use my other email account.

26-07-05, 23:02
Try joseph@tombraiderforums.com :D

26-07-05, 23:05
shrensh. How do you address the email(s)? In case you just copied the address from these posts, be sure you do not copy (and paste) any empty space behind the address, but only the letters.

26-07-05, 23:19
Okay, I'm busy sending off another email right now.

I did copy and paste the email addresses, but I was pretty careful about not getting any spaces in it. That might have been the problem, or that email account might be having problems. I don't usually use that address unless I'm sending large attachments, so it might be having problems that I wouldn't have noticed.

26-07-05, 23:27
Your patch can hardly be bigger than 1 MB?

26-07-05, 23:27
Just received your patch! :D http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif

27-07-05, 22:09
Oh good, it worked this time.

Lol, it's 500kb, it's not that big, but I only have 10mb space on my webmail account and it was almost full, so I had to delete some stuff so it could save the message in the sent items folder.
