Morning http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif

You need to remove the nasties first AE. We'll start with the standards Ad Aware SE (http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10045910.html) and Spybot S&D (http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=download). Download the latest versions of these two programs, update their definition files first, and then perform scans and allow the programs to fix what they find. When you have done that, it is important that you perform secondary scans with both programs.

[EDIT] Whilst I think on... 'out of nowhere': When done, you need to check your ActiveX settings for IE. Go to Control Panel/Internet Options/Security tab, select Internet and click on Custom Level. I would set your ActiveX setting currently at Enable to Prompt.

Hey Net, thanks for the help. Ok I found 321 critical objects. What do I do with them now? And I checked, my ActiveX setting was already on prompt. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif

You found 321 critical objects (in Ad-Aware?). Right-click on one of them, and choose: "Select all items", then click Next. It will ask you "Delete all items? " and you confirm.

Now run Spybot S&D too.

Spybot S&D sounds like a futuristic brothel. :D

Ok, done all that. Stupid thing is still there. But I sent a really abusive email containing plenty of expletives and threats to the softwares customer service department. I feel cleansed.

Hold on, Ill restart and see what happens.

btw, thanks for the help boys. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif

Dear andromeda_eats, you should also install SpywareBlaster. It helps PREVENTING spyware placing itself on your pc.

Spyware, adware, browser hijackers, and dialers are some of the fastest-growing threats on the Internet today.
By simply browsing to a web page, you could find your computer to be the brand-new host of one of these unwanted fiends!

The most important step you can take is to secure your system. And SpywareBlaster is the most powerful protection program available.

</font> Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.</font> Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.</font> Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.</font> SpywareBlaster can help keep your system spyware-free and secure, without interfering with the "good side" of the web.</font> And unlike other programs, SpywareBlaster does not have to remain running in the background.</font>
SpywareBlaster is freeware for personal and educational use.

&gt; Download SpywareBlaster 3.2

I can understand you feel cleansed :D by having done that, but i'd advise to NEVER react to these companies because it is giving away your email-adress. They love it! Be prepared to receive even more spam than normal. :(

http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif Hopefully you are clear. AE, let your system run for a couple of days to see how things go. If all seems ok, then if you're running XP, please purge your System Restore points by going to Control Panel/System/System Restore tab and check 'Turn off System Restore on all drives' Click Apply and OK and then reboot. When you've rebooted, you can go back there and turn it on again by unchecking. Then any traces of the nasty will be purged from your System Restore folder.
