Does anybody know why suddenly all my saved games have disappeared from the drop down saved games menu while playing AOD on my PC....I had just saved in Archaeological Dig before Lara had a running jump, and when I tried to load the game again, instead of the drop down menu a single box appeared with LOAD GAME written in it....there doesn't seem to be any reason for it, I'm stunned....also at the same time at the start of the game the visuals have gone on the introduction scenes...It has all been working so well. I already have patch 49....I just don't understand....can anybody pleeeese help....

This is not so funny to Cera, captainpqa.
Cera, how did you save your game? It is best to always save by pressing "Esc", choose Save. The quicksave (F5) doesn't work well.
I only do not understand why you had savegames (so you say) and now they're gone?
You could go to the directory of your TRAOD. By default it is Program Files / Eidos Interactive / TRAOD. Open the SaveGame folder. In case it is empty, choose and download a savegame from this page. (http://www.tombraiderchronicles.com/tng/saves.html) . Choose one closest to where you were in the game, you might have to play a bit over though.

Hi joseph......
I didn't use F5 to save just the usual ESC....
All my saved games are still in the saved games folder...
I think I will install the game again & see what happens.
thanking you http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif

I decided to re-install TRAOD....put disc 1 in, but the auto/play came on the screen, everything started o.k visuals at introduction were there amd best of all so were the saved games....It seemss to be the auto/play is at fault it starts up on its own, but with all the same problems as I earlier stated..any suggestions as to how I can get it running again properly only the game running with the disc in, is a bit iffy lara jams up from time to time and it's not running as good as the auto/play, I looked in the readme file but the auto/play issues and how to enable them don't gell with my windows xp settings..
forgive me for being so long winded http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/redface.gif http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/redface.gif

Hey Cera, sorry to hear about losing the savegames. It sucks when that happens. Welcome to the forum. Do you mind if I ask where in Australia you are from? http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif

Hi Cera,

If you perform a full Install of TRAOD you don't need the CD in the drive to play the game. It should also run faster.

Joseph
04-11-04, 12:45
Cera, i agree with Simulation: i think you should UNINstall the game completely.
First copy the SaveGame folder to an 'archive' folder you create, name it "AODsave-4nov04" or something like that (just for the feeling of safety ;) ) By uninstalling, the SaveGame folder will still be staying where it is, but you'can never be absolutely sure...
Now:

</font> Uninstall AOD.</font> Restart pc.</font> Put AOD cd in tray. Choose "Install".</font> Choose "Full install"</font> If you already have DirectX9.0c, uncheck "install directx".</font> If you do not have a soundcard of Creative (like soundblaster Live or Audigy) UNcheck "support EAX".</font> Let install choose "recommended settings" for your graphics and sound.</font> Game should run ok now.</font>http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif

Hi Joseph http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif
well I reinstalled AOD like you instructed....
and the auto/start still doesen't work properly, its doing all the same bad things, but the game works perfectly with the disc in, except for the intro then its jerky... I think I will just have to settle for what I have got....Oh and I saved all the games and they work http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif ...I can't find anywhere on xp about finding the auto/start info.....
Thanks for all your help bye http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif

Cera http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif where do you need the auto start for? You play AOD WITHOUT THE DISC. That is why you do a full install. After install, you can keep the cd in its box.

Everytime you want to play AOD, just doubleclick the shortcut-icon and it will launch.

Cera

Hi Joseph... http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif Yes I do know that AOD starts up without the disc that was what I did before it went haywire, as per my original post....when I dbl click on the shortcut key and the start up small screen appears I click on start, and when it does start I get no visual introductions only sound....I go in to play the game but there are no loaded games. I even tried starting a new game and saved a few sceens but they still would not appear on the saved or load screens..But the saved & load screens work quite normally when I insert the disc and start the game.....

Cera, i'm beginning to think it is your graphic card, or the drivers. You could be helpful by giving some information of your pc. I would like you to do the following:
Click Start / Run...
type in:
dxdiag
click OK.
Choose to save all information.
Copy and paste the complete text into your next reply.

And please can a mod move this thread to the Technical Support?

Hi Joseph....I feel a right idiot
I have done all you asked re:dxdiag I cut the saved file but when I tried to paste to you on this reply the paste was grayed out, I have been about an hour trying to get it to work...this windows xp is not as simple as windows 98, this computer is fairly new....sorry to be such a problem to you....I could email the file if you like.... :(

Cera try again, it is not that diificult. ;)
I assume:
You created the dxdiag file. You opened it in notepad. Pressed Ctrl+A keys (=select all).

Then you did cut (rightclick / Cut, or Ctrl+X) the text.

First: you had better pressed Ctrl+ C (=COPY) the text, then your original would not be gone.

Also, there is a second thing to be aware of. Before Pasting the text into your reply, be sure your cursor is in the reply field.
To do that, just CLICK ONCE in the reply field. Because when you open the reply page (by pressing the button "NEW REPLY" at the bottom of this forums pages), Paste does not work yet; the reply field has to be chosen first. So that this forum's software (via your browser) knows WHERE to paste.

You can experiment with it: next time, do the same as you did before, open the reply field and paste. Nothing happens. But your copied (or cutted, as you did) text is not gone, it only remains on your clipboard untill you have clicked once in the reply field. THEN you paste, and you'll see the text appear. ;)

Hi Cera. Your graphic drivers are out of date. Download the latest S3 Pro Savage DDR drivers-package 06/03/2004 Version: 6.14.10.0028-13.94.28
HERE (http://www.s3graphics.com/drivers8d04.html) .
I hope this helps, although i have to say, it think your display memory (only 16Mb) is not enough for this heavy Directx9 game.
Best you could do, is invest some money in a real graphics card instead of the onboard chip you have now. A graphics card with at least 64 Mb of memory.

Please do the drivers update first, and report back the result. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif

Also, Cera, you should put more Ram memory in your pc. WindowsXP needs 256 MB to run properly. On top of that, you want to play a game. TR:AOD is not a conventional game, it is heavy. It uses many options of Directx9. The onboard graphics chip, the onboard soundchip, the Celeron processor (little level2 cache), and only 238MB Ram, make a fine office-pc, but not suited for gaming. These are all 4 bottlenecks, together one big bottleneck for Directx9 games.

Put in another 256 MB of Ram, and as already said you should invest in a good graphic card with at least 64 MB memory on it (as it says recommended on the box), or 128 for better performance.

Hi Joseph....
Well I did as you suggested and upgraded pro savage...

The game starts on auto, but just the same with no intro visuals....I played a few levels from the start, but the game will not save any games, when I saved it said "save succesfull" but it wasn't telling the truth, because when I tried to load a saved game nothing happened....
I think I will have to do as you advised and get a real graphic card  ...Thank you very much for all your help, time and patience with a novice game player like me.
I will stick to my other TR's until I get a graphic card...
Once again THANK YOU http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Cera, you haven't upgraded, you have updated the drivers. ;)
As i already explained, your pc needs some upgrades.

But coming back to your first post:

Does anybody know why suddenly all my saved games have disappeared from the drop down saved games menu while playing AOD on my PC....I had just saved in Archaeological Dig before Lara had a running jump, and when I tried to load the game again, instead of the drop down menu a single box appeared with LOAD GAME written in it....there doesn't seem to be any reason for it, I'm stunned....also at the same time at the start of the game the visuals have gone on the introduction scenes...It has all been working so well. I already have patch 49....I just don't understand....can anybody pleeeese help.... Does this mean that you played AOD from the beginning till Archeological Dig, without any of these problems occurring?
Has this all happened after you installed Service Pack 2 for XP?

Now my question is: did you have these problems when you started this game, back in the beginning, for the first time, in the first levels?

Answer to your question Joseph....
No I did not have any problems from the start right up to Archeological Dig, this is why I was so surprised that it went wrong
I can't remember if it was after I installed Service Pack 2 for XP...I think it was after!!! but not right away, because I have had Service Pack 2 for a couple of months I think.

Cera, could you at least widen the 2 most narrow bottlenecks on your pc: the RAM and the graphic card?
</font> Put in an extra RAM module of 256 MB.</font> Put in a graphic card, for very good price / performance in directx9 games, like Ati Radeon 9800 Pro -$240,- It is possible you'd have to put in a new power supply as well to feed this card, best is to have a 400 Watt one, $50,-</font>On the other hand, leaving your pc as it is now, let us experiment with lower settings. First try to run the game without sound. See how it performs.
Check off the "enable audio" in the settings menu, tab sound.

Hi Joseph.....
I checked off the "enable audio" like you wrote,
started up TRAOD and a very large message was on my screen - "UNKNOWN FILE, please insert the correct disc for: DATA\FMV\EIDOS.mpg"....
This message just stopped on the screen I could not get rid of it no how,I had to resort to ctrl+Alt+del, then it went, so did the start menu (like the one you posted), and I could not start the game at all.....so I unistalled the game http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/bash.gif
Anyway I think I have wasted tooooooooo much of your time over this issue...thank you for your interest..you're a gem http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/whistle.gif

Oh, NOOOooo! :(
Cera, how can you say i 'wasted time' on this -or any problem? http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/clown.gif
We are here to help. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
Or it might be the case that YOU give up.

What you are telling me, started up TRAOD and a very large message was on my screen - "UNKNOWN FILE, please insert the correct disc for: DATA\FMV\EIDOS.mpg"....
is strange behavior. When I uncheck "enable audio" and start the game, i simply go into a silent game, no errors.

Cera, if you still would like to look for a solution (i hope), you could update your Realtek AC97 sounddrivers HERE. (http://www.softwarepatch.com/utilities/ac97.html)

Then reinstall the game, and try again.

Still the same errors? Then do this:
Click Start / Run... type in
dxdiag
Go to tab "Sound".
Slide the slide bar of "hardware accelleration" to the left, then try to play the game again.
