Hi all, I've a big problem with this game.
I've downloaded the patch to run TR3 on my system Win 2000.
The game in mode "Sofware" works fine but it's slow cause my old pc (it's a AMD Duron 800 Mhz), so I must play it in mode "Hardware Acceleration".
But here there's the problem :(
The game itself it's ok, but in the introduction of the game, there isn't the picture of the title of the game, and during a play when I press the inventory button appear strange texture.
And It comes with any resolution to 16 or 32 bit and with/without filer, z buffer, ecc.. optios.
Look the picture that I post http://tombraider.gamesurf.it/forum/images/attachments/immagine_113.jpg

depa, I'm moving the thread to the Technical Support (http://www.tombraiderforums.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum;f=11) forum, where you will get more help http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

depa http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif that is a set of nice pictures. :D They are the raw material.
Don't play in Software mode, because that IS slower. Best is Hardware 3D accelleration. Then your graphic card will do its best for you.

But you have to play the game in Compatibility mode.

Click Start, then Run. Type in:
cmd.exe
click OK. In the command prompt type:
CD %systemroot%\apppatch
Press Enter.
Then type:
regsvr32 slayerui.dll
Press Enter.

It will give the message "DllRegisterServer in slayerui.dll succeeded".
Click OK.

Now click Start / Core design / Tombraider 3 ,right-click on "Play TR3", choose Properties, select the compatibility tab, choose to play in Windows 98 compatibility mode.

Nothing :( :( :(
Same Problem.I tried the compatibylity but the result is the same.
Can my direct X 9 be the problem?

Strange. Well have you seen the message "DllRegisterServer in slayerui.dll succeeded"???

Could it be your Directx. In itself: no. But it could be damaged, on your system. You could reinstall it (it will overwrite). Reboot the pc.

But you also could have a damaged installation of the game perhaps?
Try uninstall / reinstall the game.

Have you updated your graphic cards drivers?
Do your chipset drivers need an update?

Could you send in your dxdiag.txt file as well? :(

I have the last driver of my video card (Nvidia TNT2 Model 64), Direct x 9 (they work fine with my TR II).
The message was appeared succefully.
Could I reinstall old Direct X?

i've tried to reinstall but nothing..... :( :( :(

Joseph

No, you cannot reinstall old DirectX. The only way to do that is reinstall Windows first. :(

Hey, i know that card (nVidia Riva TNT2 64), i played TR3, 4 and 5 on it in Windows ME. The card is capable for TR1 ~ 5.
So you use the latest drivers. Hmmm.
I have to think... :(

Probably, It's the not full compatibylity of Win 2000 with TRIII.
:(

That is what the patch and the compatibility mode are for, aren't they. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/whistle.gif

NO no no, depa, not so premature. Tell more about your pc via dxdiag?
Click Start / Run...
type in:
dxdiag
click OK.
Choose to save all information.
Copy and paste the complete text into your next reply.

It is possible, the install of Directx9 did not go well.
Redo it following these steps (they are for XP, so i only hope / guess they go the same way on 2000):

Install the Latest Version of DirectX
Restart Your Computer By Using a Clean Boot Procedure
When you start Microsoft Windows, typically there are a number of programs that start automatically and run in the background that may interfere with the game. These programs may include antivirus and system utility programs. When you perform a clean boot, you prevent these programs from starting automatically. You must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group to complete this procedure. If your computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may also prevent you from completing this procedure.

To restart your computer by using a clean boot procedure, follow these steps when you are using Windows XP.

Note: You may experience a temporary loss of some services functionality when you follow these steps. Restoring the settings restores the functionality, but may result in the return of the original error message or behavior.
1. Click Start, click Run, type msconfig in the Open box, and then click OK.
2. On the General tab, click Selective Startup.
3. Under Selective Startup, click to clear the following check boxes: </font> Process SYSTEM.INI File</font> Process WIN.INI File</font> Load Startup Items</font>4. On the Services tab, click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable All.
5. Click OK, and then click Restart.
And now, install again Directx9.0c

When I type msconfig in the Open box, appeared a message: Impossible find "msconfig" and his components, check that the run and the name of the file are correct and all library necessary are available.

OK. Well, download msconfig then.
From this page. (http://www.perfectdrivers.com/howto/msconfig.html) http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif

How do you start the game depa?
You know it is best to always exit the autoplay, and start the game by clicking Start / All Programs / Core Design / Tombraider3 / Play ?

OK. So we can rule out some things:
</font> It is not the graphic card, it is capable to run this game.</font> It is not your AMD Duron 800 Mhz, it is capable as well.</font> It is not your Ram, you have enough (448MB)</font> It is not your graphic drivers, you have updated them.</font> It is not DirectX, you have the latest.</font>I see your Audio PCI Yamaha (DS1x Native) has far outdated drivers (11/6/1999 ).
I see you have a joypad connected. Could you unplug it, and put it far away from your pc?! Into another room if possible...

I tried this 2 options but nothing.
I must change my pc :( :( :(

Drive: C:
Free Space: 0.4 GB
Total Space: 3.0 GB
File System: NTFS
Model: ST313030A

Drive: D:
Free Space: 3.4 GB
Total Space: 78.2 GB
File System: NTFS
Model: Maxtor 6Y080L0

Drive: E:
Free Space: 0.0 GB
Total Space: 9.4 GB
File System: NTFS
Model: ST313030ACould you explain to me, depa, about this?
Am i right that you have 2 harddiskdrives: </font> 1st disk --- contains partition C: and Win2000 is on it.</font> As well contains partition E: and you got files on it.</font> 2nd disk --- contains partition D: and has files on it.</font>Let me tell you, and this is not good: your C: is allmost full. Assuming you got Windows there, it is likely that it will not perform without errors.
Your drive E: is completely full.
If i am right, both C: and E: are on the first harddisk. So this hdd is extremely overloaded, with only a tiny 400Mb free space left.
For optimal performance, every partition on every drive should always have free diskspace, never less than 15% (bottomline). Secondly: when did you defragment your hddrives the last time? You see, the defragmentation process isn't even phyisically possible without free diskspace.
I think you should first clean up a bit your partitions. Delete or burn on cd large amounts of files so that you can free some diskspace!
And enlarge the partition that contains Windows. If it is C:, which is now 3 GB, you should resize (enlarge) it to 5 or 6 GB.
Now where, and on which partition is your game installed?

Yes, I've 2 harddisk:
C and his partition E, and the second HD is D.
Tomb Raider III is in C.
I've format my pc a month ago, and I haven't done any defrag.
So what I should do?

But It's strange, because in 'Hardware Acceleration' mode the game is all ok (game,FMV, Cut Scenes) except the "inventory pause" and the loading screens of the first logo and the loading of the scenes (that are stupid 2D images). And like you've seen, my Hard Disks are full.
So why don't I have problem in the play(3D) itself instead I've those stupid problem?
