i think this is either something to do with your graphics card or something else as it has said that on my dads computer and when installed activex control, still did not work, works on mine though!

Install StyleXP (http://www.tgtsoft.com) and then run the CrystalXP installer again. I hope it works.

I am not keen on Style XP though.

Sparky, you say "And my screen looks like this.." what should i see that is wrong in the picture?

To your problem "Run-Time error 429 ActiveX component can't create object":
try this (http://www.helpd.nl/bot/error.php3) Click on Run-time Error 429 FIX to download.
Hope this helps. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif

Although upon un-installing Style XP the 98 style window re-appears. i did install another theme some time ago, it is calle Media Center Style. and do not know of any way to remove it, as there is no option on my programmes menu or Add/Remove window!

Uncheck "display notification in every script error' (or something like that, i'm translating from dutch) in IE menu 'TOOLS' (In dutch version it is Extra) / Options...

The defaulting to the basic 98 'theme' is generally due to the fact that the theme you are trying to use is unsigned, and your uxtheme.dll is unpatched. Installing a program like StyleXP patches this file, but only whilst you have that program installed.

I've explained to you before Sparky, that you can get around this by patching your uxtheme.dll yourself. You will find detailed manual instructions HERE (http://themes.belchfire.net/index.php?showtopic=9001), where you can now also download a patched uxtheme.dll for SP2 systems! You may also prefer to try the new version of MultiPatcher (http://themes.belchfire.net/index.php?showtopic=8767) which will patch the file for you and also now supports SP2 systems.

Either of these should basically allow you to use unsigned themes. This is aside from these ActiveX errors you are getting (which personally I've never seen with a theme  ).

[EDIT] Oh, and for removing a theme you no longer wish to use, simply navigate to C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes and delete the folder/files of the theme you wish to get rid of. Make sure you only delete the folder/files of that theme.

Good luck. These instructions are much updated as far as I can tell. They seem to be a whole lot clearer and fuller than any I've seen before. And if that fails, you can always try the patcher. It's a shame you don't have a dual boot, then you could boot into another OS and change the file without any problems what so ever.

Why would I laugh? No, it's more a case of disappointment when someone can't get something done that I know I can do easily, and that if I trusted Remote Assistance, I'd do it for you. But I don't, so I won't :D
