Anyone know if this is a decent card? It looks like it might be worth the fifty bucks.

I have been using this card since it first appeared on the market and it has performed better than I had expected for what is after all the bottom end of the range.
For "fifty bucks" you certainly won't be disappointed with this card. I might add it cost a lot more when I bought it. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif

Hi Deano,
I had the FX5200 before I changed to a Radeon 9800Pro. The card is OK and not bad value for money, but don't expect high performance. The FPS drop dramatically when the high end features are enabled.
I would say that the card speed was comparible to the GeForce 4 Ti4400 (which I had before the FX5200) and although it is DX9 compatible I ended up turning off the additional features because of the slow down in TRAOD.
There are some performance charts on the TRAoD FAQ page (http://www.tombraiderforums.com/aodwalk/faq.html)

On all the tech sites they say it stinks. Try to go for at least a GeForce 4 Ti4200 better yet the Ti4600 128MB. If you can find the money shell out for 9700pro or 9800pro.

Interesting. Ti4600 it is then. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
I want to go with nVidia this time 'round, I've nothing but problems with my 8500. Not to say it ain't a good card though, just the rest of system seems to have a problem with it. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/privateeye.gif

You can get a refurbished unit on Newegg for 116.00, or a new one for 140.00

Yup, I believe eBay is where it is coming from. I'll just do the Buy It Now, no waiting to see if I won that way. ;)
Whilst looking at 4600s, I noticed the 4800. Know anything usefull 'bout that?

It is worth noting that the GeForce Ti range do not support all of the DirectX9 functions. So you might still want to consider an FX5700/FX5900 or a Radeon 9600/9700 Pro/XT.
The Ti4600 and FX5200 ran TRAOD at about the same FPS on my kit.
Always a tough choice buying a new card. The one you really want is tooooo expensive and the cheap one is toooo slow. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/bash.gif

I was going to mention that :D In fact the GF4 only supports up to DirectX8 (not even 8.1)
If you want a DX9 card go with either a Radeon 9700pro or 9800pro. You can find those for 200.00 or less.
The 9800 has a 256bit mem interface when the 9600 on has 128bit. 9800 has 8 pixel pipes the 9600 only has four.

Yeah, just because I can spend the money on any card out there, doesn't mean I want to spend the money on any card out there. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif
I think I'm gonna go with the Ti4600. Thanks for all help guys. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

I remember upgrading from a S3 Trio64V+ to a Voodoo3 2000. What a difference that was. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

The best thing I did was to upgrade to the ATI Radeon 9800Pro. Especially since it didn't cost me anything. ;)
I'm in charge of Hardware at work and decided that I should test the card at home over an extended period. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/privateeye.gif
