Now I'm pulled two ways a bit,as I don't have any new TR to play at the moment, but I consider myself lucky that I came across TR 1 in a "flea-market store" and decided to buy it.
It was just one Mark so I thought I might as well give it a try - maybe it would work on my computer...
Luckily for a computer-beginner like me all I had to do was to tell it to go ahead and install itself. It made itself comfortable in there right away and WOW
Finally I had found what I had hoped for in vain before in computer gaming.
Now I'm addicted ;) and don't plan to take any therapy against it any time soon!

There were some memorable anecdotes like the crocodile caught above Lara ("Funny Anecdote") or the end scene were the winged Natla died on the balcony right under the exit under the roof.
When she came back to consciousness she was able to shoot at Lara, but Lara couldn't reach her with her pistols.
She had to climb up a level under fire in order to get at Natla.
My favourite landscape was the desert area with pyramid side in the Temple of the Cat.
I guess I like wide open spaces.

When I came into this area and saw the pyramid straight ahead I made Lara run at it right away and kept the action and forward buttons pressed.

Now the "camera" zoomed back - the farthest ever - to show Lara as a tiny dot moving up the pyramid in the distance.
Breathtaking!

This also enables you to take on the lifeforms under you at your leisure.
In the Great Pyramid I came upon the pillars with flames on them, decided to investigate under water first, came back to the entrance and the flames on the pillars were out and stayed out when I left the room.
Going back through the entrance will make them start up again.
Starting the scenario anew I tried to copy this extinguishing by doing my best to copy my underwater movements.
I was not able to reproduce the effect.

The same goes for the end scene of TR Gold, which is called "Director's Cut" over here.
She pulled the lever for the timed door and jumped onto the first raised block. I kept the forward and jump buttons held and she was transported jumping and running across the grey blocks as if on automatic.
I wouldn't have made it like it is mentioned in Stella's walkthrough. (I think her walkthroughs are very good nevertheless).

When you come to the temple entrance with a motionless centaur on each side you just climb out of the water facing the temple entrance exactly and run into the building. No need to bother with them if you don't want to.
They're too slow for Lara - :D

Have a great time exploring!

You bet!

By the way, I found it easier to defeat the giant legless mutant in the final level touching the F1 button.
Everything moves more slowly and I can coordinate my movements and direction changes better.

You mean the game resolution changing? ;)

Yes, everything moves more slowly - at least on my computer.

When Lara acts I usually prefer the fast mode so she responds to my play swiftly and moves so wonderfully.

Anyway, I don't mind the "bad" resolution in TR 1 at all, as it contributes to the mysterious athmosphere in there from my point of view.

TR1 is a very special game eh. And it still sells! How many other games from the year TR1 came out still sell?

Maybe Myst (Don't know if it came out the same year.)
Good game, but no comparison to TR.

Different action, too - extremely different!
