Hi, first post and its a query.
First played TR1 when it was first released on pc back in 96, and i recently decided to root it out again to see if it was as good as i remember (and better than TR2 which i completed for 3rd time last week). Problem is that i must have some keyboard issues (newer pc than the old one i used to play on), as the game seems to constantly think the down key is being held down, meaning lara is always hopping backwards, or sometimes walking back. Obviously i cant really play the game as every time i press forward lara does a roll before continuing backwards.
As i said i think i have some keyboard incompatibility problems, does anyone knowof any patches or fixes? My pc doesnt have a gamepad port so i cant simply unplug my keyboard and use my old sidewinder pad to get round the problem, and i havent got a usb pad (dont really want to shell out for one either as i dont play many games on my pc).

So guys, does it look like i will have to live a tomb raiding less life for now, or is there a fix?

Hi Andyv, welcome to the forum http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Have you tried re-installing the game?? This usually solves the problem. If this doesn't work for you, refer to this thread again...

Reinstalling the game doesnt help, i actually tried to play it a few months ago on this pc and i had the same problem, except the game always used to turn to the left (i think). Anyway, if anyone can think of any remedy or has had this problem then please help.
Cheers
Andy.

Welcome to the forum, andyv http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif

You can try to delete the file HMISET.CFG from C:\TOMBRAID directory. Start the game again and try to see if it work then.

Oh my god, you are a prince, deleting that file worked! I read on some site (i believe the TR official page or something) that the incompatible controls were an unsolvable problem as well!!
Now i just have to wait and see if i will have to delete the file every time i want to play TR.
Cheers!

hold on a mo. bear with me. Now i have got TR controlling properly, i realise that i could hear the musicy type stuff, (the clink clink clinking noises) but not shooting and running noises, anyway i did in the end get sound FX to work also by changing port, dma blablah settings.
Anyways onto the newest problem, i have realised the game is way too dark - i played and completed the game when it was first released, so i KNOW its not meant to be this dark everywhere, and i dont mean the black 'fogging' type effect.
My screen is fairly dark anyway, and i have to adjust desktop settings for brightness and gamma when i want to play half life and stuff like that, but this doesnt seem to affect tomb raider (maybe because its a Dos game or something, i dont really have a clue) but does anyone know if there is a gamma setting for TR, as i boost up my monitor brightness but even at its maximum its still too dark.
I know glidos has this setting, but i also dont want to pay £10 to unlock it as im not too bothered about improved graphics. Can someone tell me how bad the spinning logo is? Does it fill the screen or is it just in the corner? Or is there some other way i can boost up the brightness with this game?

Click here (http://www.glidos.net/download.html?lang=en) to download the newest Glidos v1.24.

The first 3 levels will not have the spinning Glidos logo. From the 4th level to the end of the game, a spinning logo will occur until the program is registered http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Downloaded glidos, and the program works great and allowed me to boost gamma as much as i needed. However i didnt realise how intrusive the glidos symbol is, i dont want to buy glidos, just boost gamma up. So does anyone know of a program which allows you to alter gamma in DOS games?
