View Full Version : Help with posting screenshots, please

Hi there http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif

It's me again, having a slight problem.

I'm taking part in the TR3 challenge but somehow seem to mess it up when I post my screenshots.
They always seem too small, so that you can hardly read the stats.
When I look at them in IrfanView, it tells me the size is 800x600 pixels (that is what Joseph suggested), but it still comes out too small in the actual post.

And somehow I replaced the screenshot I posted yesterday with one I did today without realizing it. I just had a look at what I posted last night, and there was the screenshot I only took this afternoon http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/yikes.gif ( I have just realized: I changed it in photbucket http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/redface.gif - that is probably the reason why)

I am at a loss here. Would one of you please be so kind and talk me through it step by step?? http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/whistle.gif

And while we're at it: how do I post only a part of a screenshot, lets say the statistics, (what Joseph called a "cutout")

Thank you http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/grouphug.gif

The picture is small by itself (305x229). The forum here doesn't shrink it. Probably photobucket does if it is big. I have no idea how photobucket works, but maybe if a pic is above a specific amount of Kb's, photobucket shrinks it in dimensions. Are you sure you didn't re-size at all? The pic is small on photobucket's server.

You can make the "cutout" with a paint program. Crop the image, remove the outer part that you don't want and keep the stats in the middle.

Hi Gabi,

Photobucket has an image size limit of 250KB. Any files larger than this are automatically resized.

I see that you have used BMP format. Change to JPG or GIF as these formats use much less space.

Example image below is 43KB in JPG format, but 1,407KB in BMP format and would be scaled down to a sixth of its size by Photobucket.

Hi GABI. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif
Just use the "Save as..." function, then choose 'jpeg'.
Ahhh.... you are using IrfanView. Wait a minute, i'll check.

Hello Joseph http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif

I just gave it a go and post the result here:

whoops........ maybe a little too big this time http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/jumper.gif

So.....once I converted it into JPG, should I then half the size??
I'll try http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/clown.gif

Then 'Save as...'

and choose .jpeg extension in the 'Save as' options drop-down field, and choose '60' as quality, it is normal for images on the internet.
