Hi, Iīm new here! http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif And first I apologise for my bad english, english ist not my native language. ;)

I have a big problem with my Tomb Raider Games!
The FMVs donīt work, also with the XP Patch, they donīt work. :(
And I canīt play them with the Escape Player too! Nothing seems to work.

I hope someone here has an Idea how I can solve that Problem. It would be great if anyone knows what to do.

I really love the Tomb Raider Games (I-III) and want to play them on my PC. :D

If you need any information from my PC or Monitor, see Signature.

Thanks.

Right-click on an empty space on your Desktop, choose Properties / Settings. At Colour-quality, choose 32 bit.
Navigate to your Tomb Raider game via Start / All Programs / Core Design / Tomb Raider... Setup. Choose a 32 bit mode.
Any difference?

No, normally I had it on 32 bit, it was an concidence that it was so, when I make the diag. ;)
I tried 16 bit, I thought maybe it would help, thatīs the reason why it was on 16 bit. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Stern, i believe your pc is in very good shape. Let's try this:
When you put the TR cd in the drive, always quit the autoplay. Start the game from Start / All Programs / Core Design / Tomb Raider ... / Run TR.

Stern der Nacht
05-02-05, 13:17
I always startet from the programmes, never from autoplay ;)

Why donīt work these FMVs?? :(

Zebius
05-02-05, 13:46
Did you try to run TR3 in compatibility mode for 98/Me? It works well for me on XP SP2 and I don't use any patches.

Stern der Nacht
05-02-05, 13:55
The Compatibility mode dont work with wind 89 or 95 at all. I can use Win 2000 or NT that workt, but it works also with Win XP only the FMVs makes problems with and without compatibility mode. :(

Joseph
05-02-05, 17:21
Have you tried with the cd in your dvd-rw (D) as well as with cd in your dvd-player (E)?

Is there a audiocable present between one of these drives, and the motherboard?

Hi Stern

I've thought a little more about your problem. Try running Tomb Raider III in 640*480 resolution and 16-bit colour. If that does not work try the same thing in 32-bit colour, and then step the resolution upto 800*600 and repeat the process. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif

I realise this might seem a long-winded approach to the problem, but I'm almost certain I had this very same problem a few years ago. I've tried recreating your problem on an AMD platform with the same graphics card on a friend's machine at University and haven’t had much success yet, but I'll keep trying http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Hi TheStig. I thought i already mentioned that. But it is getting a bit confused in this thread i guess. :D

Any difference? Stern http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif from your dxdiag report i saw your colour being at 16-bit; you explained that was only because you were experimenting.
Then i assumed you already had tried the game with 16-bit settings because that is the default.
Now before the confusion gets out of hand: you can change 16 / 32 bit on your Display Settings menu, but also in the TombRaider gamesettings there is a 16-/32-bit choice. Just open the TR Setup menu via the path as decribed, and click OK. The default will be loaded (is 16-bits), don't change anything.
Does your problem occur again?

Stern der Nacht
06-02-05, 00:57
Ok, also

I tried both DVD Drives (nothing changes except the loading time when something is read from the CD)
I have no cable, but it seems that I have sound (donīt ask me why)
I will try that with 16 bit in TR and in display settings, I understand what you mean, and the first time I donīt noticed that I must do it in TR and in Display Settings. That could work
And I will try again to use other resolutions
Ah and TheStig I tried it too on an AMD System (from my brother) and he has also an Abit Board, but a Radeon 9800 Pro instead of GeForce 6800 LE like me, the Rest ist also nearly the same, same Windows, also the Service Pack 2 and so on. And on his PC it works perfectly. !?

I will experminting a bit more with what you told me here, maybe something will solve the problem. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

So, now I tried my old Card, my RADEON 9800 Pro (256 MB) and I still have the same Problem, so the graphiccard ist not the problems, what else could it be than? :(

Any idea?

What could be a clue (you said "the sound stotters" in your 2nd post), is the audiocable.
You should place one in, where it belongs.

Anyway, have you checked ON digital audio for cd-rom player?

First, in Windows soundvolume control, check that CD-AUDIO is not mute. Volume up.

http://joseph.tombraiderforums.com/Images/cdaudio.gif

And check the same situation in the sound control menu of your soundchip, or soundcard (like the Creative surroundmixer with Creative Soundblaster Live! or Audigy2).

http://joseph.tombraiderforums.com/Images/creative1.jpg

After this, go to Device Manager. Doubleclick on your cd-rom drive / tab Properties. Check on "digital cd-audio for this cd-rom drive".

I have a Soundcard onboard, what must I do instead of the Sound Mixer from audigy?

I will try it, maybe it works! http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Nevertheless, look for its soundsettings-menu, if there is one.

Yeah I mean that http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif I cecked all and its all like it should be and I make an audio cable on the DVD RW Rom Drive.

And its all on digital (should I use digital and analog?) and the rest ist also like it should be (like in your pictures, in german of course)

Now, I installed to test if it works, Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness and its works perfectly, with FMVs and all, now I will try to intall Tomb Raider IV for testing.

But its sure that Tomb Raider III the FMVs donīt work and from Tomb Raider II. :(

This are newest Infos

Tomb Raider 1

Game - runs perfect
FMVs - running perfectly

I need VDM Sound only for the Sound, the Rest, also the FMVs runs without help and without problems but without VDM Sound they have, of course, no sound

Tomb Raider 2

Game - runs perfect
FMVs - hang, Sound stottering

Tomb Raider 3

Game - runs perfect
FMVs - hang, Sound stottering (exactly like in TR2)

Tomb Raider 4

Game - donīt runs at all, emidiallity after I clikc on the Game oder the Settings, there comes an error messege which I can send to microsoft
FMVs - I never see them, because the game donīt run

Tomb Raider 5 - I donīt have this part at the moment

Tomb Raider 6

Game - runs perfect (ok its stottering in graphic, but I have turn all effects on and all things on high, it should be no problem to solve this little problem)

For TR4, you need TLR Speed Loader ***
Windows XP - DOWNLOAD from this page: http://www.tombraiderchronicles.com/windowsxp2.html
It is called Speed Loader, but in fact it is patch version 1.2 that works for all available versions.

Now about your problem.
Stern, would you be able to try the following: download and install a previous driver version for your nVidia graphic card? You should try this one: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_56.64.html (http://http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_56.64.html) Download it please.

For safety, first create a restore point. Then uninstall old nVidia drivers, reboot the pc, and install the above mentioned previous driver. Do you think you can handle that?

At the moment I have an 9800 Pro, not the GeForce anymore, the GeForce has my brother now.

Do you have an older Version for the 9800 Pro.

And yes no problem to install a driver or deinstall or install a patch, its all no problem ;)

Now I will download the Speed Loader!

YEAH NOW IT WORKS; A WONDER IT REALLY WORKS!

Before I wrote this Topic I testet it with Compatibility Mode, Win 98 donīt work at all and nothing helped against the FMV Problem, NOW I tried it again the Difference is, now I donīt have the NVIDIA GeForce 6800 LE, now I have the RADEON 9800 Pro, I tried it again with Win 98 (and expectet a black screen as bevore) BUT THE WONDER HAPPENS it works! The FMV was playes correctly and suddenly it works!

So it was the graphiccard! The problem was the GeForce, with the Geforce the Win 89 Mode and TR II or III donīt work! There only was a black screen and the gamer never came.

NOW IT WORKS! I am so happy! THX for all your nice help! Thank you so much! http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

:D Many Congratulations Stern! And good work of you! http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif

So, what i feared is true. It is the nVidia drivers ( that card is OK ).

Thanks, but I didnīt do much ;)
I followed your advices and they are very intelligent, there are some things I would never thing of, but it donīt helped (not your fault of course), but you tried to help me so much and I want to say THANK YOU for that! http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

And yes mabe it was the Driver. I can test that I will give the Game to my brother who now has my NVIDIA Card and also a new driver, than I can see if that was the problem (I also tried to change driver but I only find newer versions, beta versions and not an older version)

So, I tested it and the result is it runs on the NVIDIA Card with a NEW driver and the FMVs are working too at his PC, but now he canīt use Win 98/ME or 95 Compatibility Mode, like me before, when I had the NVIDIA Card. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

And if it doesn't need the Compatibility mode, be happy. Don't ask me why it works, i just don't know. PC's are very complicated configurations of many parts. "Why is that? I linked you to an older driver on page 1 of this thread:"

Thats simple at this time I donīt had the NVIDIA Card in my PC anymore, and I donīt wanīt to change all again(and my brother wouldnīt like that too)

And to make such easy things as use compatiblity mode is no work, even for me the laziest person of the world! :D

I am satisfied http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif But I donīt understand it sometimes I think PCs are living things, they do what they want, for exemple sometimes there is a problem and suddenly the problem is away and I did nothing, so I must be nice to my PC otherwise he wont do what I want :D

Of course thas nonsense, but sometimes it seems so. :D But now Iīm happy and I played the hole Day TR 3! It was Fun! Of course! It is TR! And I really like or even love this Game! http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
