View Full Version : Which graphiccard are you using?

I ask this, because my Tomb Raider problems are maybe not a software problem, maybe they are a hardware problem, I think my graphiccard could be the problem, so please tell me which graphiccard you use! (and your Tomb Raider FMVs must work with it) ;) http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Hi Stern http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif

I'm currently using an old 64mb nVidia Geforce 3 Graphics card, which is not new by any standards, but I dont have any issues playing any tomb raider titles (or their FMVs). Please post your computer's current hardware specification, and hopefully we'll be able to point you in the right direction http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

You may experience better results with some games by updating the drivers on your machine too. Ideally we need to know:

The make and model of your graphics card
Your processor speed
Your Memory size
What version of Windows are you running?

Then hopefully we'll be able to help http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Here is a link to my configuration ;)

My PC (http://www.nethands.de/pys/show.php4?user=Dark+Soul)

I have the newest drivers that should not be the problem.

Hi Stern

I looked at the link you posted for your pc specification and it seems that you should not have any problems playing any tomb raider titles. If you are having problems playing the fmvs in Angel of Darkness, I suggest the following.

Firstly try selecting/unselecting VRM9 on the fmv options for the game set-up as shown below:

The only other thing I can think of is a recent problem a friend of mine had playing DVDs with his Geforce 6800. The very latest drivers from nVidia (version 66.93) caused problems with his dvd-play back. The image would distort quite badly when maximised. This effected all other full screen video as well. If this is what you are experiencing then I recommend rolling back to your previous drivers.

I hope this is of some help. Is it just fmvs or does the entire game/s have problems? Please keep us updated http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Hi Stern http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif

I've just noticed your other post in these forums about FMV sequences in Tomb Raider III. Is it just Tomb Raider III your FMVs don't work on or have you tried it with some other tomb raider titles?

Also, in Tomb Raider all FMVs from Tomb Raider I till V don´t work, they first go for two seconds than they hang. :(
The Rest of the Games are running perfectly. ;)
And I tried it with the normal Patch with XP Patch, with compatibli mode (Win 98/95 don´t work, only 2000 or NT) and on Windows XP it runs also normally (expect Tomb Raider I for that Game I need VDM Sound for the Sound and the FMVs work with that VDM thing)

And I don´t have any Idea why the FMVs don´t work. :(

And in Tomb Raider VI I have no Problems.

*MSI nxGF6800GT 256MB - all works 100% ok. (TR2 -AOD works well)

Aha! You have a GeForce 6800LE 128MB, you need latest drivers for your GF and MB's chipset.

66.96 is ok - DVD and all other things works fine, there must be some other problem like upgrade your MB chipset's drivers.

Stern, Apofiss may be right about updating the chipset. Who is your motherboard's manufacturer? The Belarc Advisor (http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html) will give the answer. Download it (it's free), and doubleclick on the .exe. It will install itself, and create a report about your system. Search for: 'Main Circuit Board'; it will name the manufacturer and type of your motherboard.
Report back the result here please.

Hello again Stern http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif

Following on from the advise that Apofiss and Joseph suggest, go to the A-bit link below and get the latest drivers for your motherboard

CLICK--->HERE (http://www.abit.com.tw/page/de/download/download_detail.php?pFILE_TYPE=Driver&pMAIN_TYPE=Motherboard&pTITLE_ON_SCREEN=IC7-G&pSOCKET_TYPE=Socket+478)

I recommend the intel chipset drivers v6.2.1.1001 (but as always back up everything on your computer and read the release notes first) http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

It's been quite some time since I played Tomb Raider III, but I'm going to see if I can re-create the problem you are having on a couple of systems here at home.

One thing I do vaguely remember...is having a problems playing fmvs on both TR2 and TR3 at high resolutions (back when I was still running Windows 98). I seem to remember setting the resolution to 640*480 or 800*600 cured the problem. This was about 5 years ago with an old nvidia 16MB Riva TNT card...so I imagine your problem is different. Might be worth a try though http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif

Is it throwing up any specific error messages...or just not playing the fmvs at all?

No, there don´t appaer anything like an error message. They don´t work at all, I get directly to the title screen, or the PC tried to show the movies and than they hang and the sound stotters, than the only thing I can do is skip the FMV (but I wan´t to see them, even if they are not so importent)
And I already tried it on other resolutions, that don´t seem to be the problem. By the way I have the same problem, when I try to show the FMV with that Escape Player thing.

I have the problems in all Tomb Raiders (not inthe newest version) and in Tomb Raider 1 I don´t have the problem but for TR 1 I use VGM Sound, so maybe that´s the reason why the FMVs work in Tomb Raider 1 ;)

And a question, didn´t I have the newest driver for my chipset? Someone gave me this which I have now and told me it is the newest!? Is it not the newest?

If you already have the newest MB's chipset drivres installed; then what about other games? Are other games run fine? (older and latest games). If other games and media run ok, then I think the problem might be Windows HomeEdition (with SP2) or other drivers like sound drivers. Have you tried other Windows on your current PC? (Clean install of WinXP Professional and fresh hardware drivers should make an answer to your problem, maybe... http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/privateeye.gif )

Stern der Nacht. There are currently 2 threads concerning your same problem, which i think is not convenient. You gave this thread the title: "Which graphiccard are you using?" , so i think it is appropriate to continue this discussion about your TR games issue in the other thread,
HERE Tomb Raider III FMVs dont work, please help! (http://www.tombraiderforums.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=11;t=001486)

Let us keep this thread on topic too, please.
I'll reply about my card(s).

I am using on this PC: Ati Radeon 9700 Pro. It plays all TR games without any problem.

On my second (no, it was my first http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif ), older pc, i placed in (3 years ago) a Geforce 3 Ti4200 which it still has. It plays TR 1 ~5 without any problem, on Win 98 / ME / XP. It plays TR:AOD, but with some disturbed graphical effects and the older pc is a bit slow in performance anyway: Pentium3 ~733 Mhz.
The original graphic card in this (older) pc was a nVidia Riva TNT2 64 MB. It too played TR 1 ~5 on Win 98 / ME without problems.

Yeah better close this topic, I only opened it because I thought the TR Problem is a graphiccard problem but now I not sure if its so, because someone in the other thread postet it works with the same card, so the card dont semme to be the problem!

PLEASE CLOSE! http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
