Problem with Tomb Raider Cronicles PC version

This is driving me nuts! I've tried everything that I can think of.
I even bought a new Joystick and STILL the sensitivity is WAY
too high. I went back and tried a few of the previous TR games
and the Joystick worked fine for them, but upon returning to
TRC it was again too sensitive. It has to be a setting within the
game itself I'm convinced!

Has anyone else experienced this annoying problem? This is the
PC version and the Joystick is a MS Sidewinder Precision Pro.
The MS 3D Pro does the same thing though, so I doubt it's the Stick.

Please help if you can. Thanks

Hey Indra,

I just might be able to help you out there!
The people at Microsoft emailed back with some
good advice. First off, are you using the Sidewinder
controller software? If so, then I have a possible
fix for you. If your not using it, you should.
It's great being able to assign certain game
functions to the buttons that YOU want.

Let me know and I'll explain the fix.

Happy New Year!

Ok,

At the request of the admin. I'll post the fix that was supplied to me by Microsoft. This fix is
ONLY for those of you that have a MS Sidewinder joystick and are using the Sidewinder
Controller Software program that comes with their joysticks.

I've used the software many times in the past to help me assign certain keyboard strokes to the
buttons on my joystick that I wanted them to control. In the 2 years I've been doing this, I never
noticed the option labeled "settings" on the Profile Activator page of the program. I will
explain what I did.

Problem: Joystick is WAY to sensitive to the touch. Lara seem to move erratically as soon as
you touch the joystick ever so slightly.

FIX: With the MS Controller Software program installed, start the program, then click on the
lower left hand corner where it says "SideWinder Software". This will bring up a window
entitled "Microsoft SideWinder Profile Activator". On the left hand side of the window you
will see a column with pictures of all of the MS controllers in it. Pan down the list until you
see your EXACT controller. Click on it and in the right hand side of the window you should see
a list of preset and/or saved profiles for your controller. At this point, those of you who
have already created a profile for this game can just skip down to the next paragraph. For
those of you who haven't yet created a profile, or are using this program for the first time,
now is the time to create a profile. To do this click on the word "File" at the top left of the
window and then click "New Profile". A "Profile Editor" window will open and at the bottom
right you will see the instructions for creating your new profile. (helpful hint here: have the
game manual that came with your CD right in front of you, open to the page that describes the
keystroke functions) this will make it easy to set the functions of each and all buttons on your
joystick.

Once you have created, named, & saved your profile, you should see it appear on the "Profile
Activator" page. Now for the fix. Double click on the profile you created and the "Profile
Editor" window will open. At the top right you will see 2 buttons. One marked "Recorder" &
one marked "Settings". Click on the SETTINGS button. A new Editor window will open and on
the LEFT hand side you will see a small box with a line in it running diagonally. Just to the right
of that box will be a setting called "DeadZone". It has 3 levels. Small, Medium (not labeled, but
there), and Large. The default is Small, but you can try Medium or Large to figure out what
works best for you. Myself, I had to use the Large setting before Lara calmed down and acted
right. Once you pick your setting, click on "Save" and the fix will be in place.
Back on the Profile Activator window, make sure that there is a check mark in the little box
next to your new profile so that you can now use your joystick with your new profile and most
importantly, the new FIX for sensitivity. Close all of the windows of this program and fire up
your TRC game. You should be pleased with the results. I know I sure am! http://www.tombraiderchronicles.com/forums/wink.gif

NOTE: When you close the program, you should still see the round "SW" icon in your system
tray so that you know it's working.

For those of you who have a SideWinder joystick and need the latest version of the Controller
Program, MS offers it for free on their web site. It's version 3.02. Here's a link:
