Hi

I'm trying to play TR2 on my windows ME computer. However, I have no background music and no cutscenes. Sound effects like footsteps and gunshots work fine, and I get all of the FMV movies .. so I don't think its a driver issue... ? This really ruins the game experience... I remember almost a whole different game

Any suggestions?

Good evening Miss Lara. Welcome to the forum. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif One of our experts will be along shortly with some advice. Enjoy your stay with us.

First thing is to check that you can play the music on the CD outside of the game. Place the CD in the drive and exit any menu that may automatically start.
Now open Media Player or Realplayer and you should be able to see and play the 60 audio tracks on the CD. The First track is a data track which can't be played.
Alternatively, just put the CD in a normal CD player and check it out there.

Let us know what you find out. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Hmm. I tried it with all three CD's TR1, TR2 and TR3

TR1 played just fine in Realplayer
TR2 gave me an error message, "RealPlayer cannot play the file types on this disk"
TR3 started playing one very bizarre clip, Casaaave, about sending people email.

I could not get Windows Media Player to even recognize that TR2 was in the D: drive. Tr 1 played fine and TR3 started playing that strange recording about email again

Despite that weird email recording on the TR3 disk, I'd like to mention that I could not get Realplayer to play any TR3 songs.

Despite this, TR3 runs perfectly as a game-- I have all the music, sounds, and FMV.

MissLara, is their difference after you check / uncheck digital play for your cd player?

I just disabed digital audio from device manager but it still didn't work. I rebooted my computer but I don't have sound or cutscenes

This TR 2 CD came with my Tomb Raider Trilogy set. The brand COKem Intl. Ltd. is printed on the CD and on the TR 2 booklet next to Eidos and Core. Does this mean anything?

Have you read this other THREAD? (http://www.tombraiderforums.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=11;t=001125)

Yes but the Sold Out software issues were with TR1 not TR2. No one seems to have a problem with the music/cutscenes in TR2 ... except me!! http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/c-1.gif

MissLara, you should have read that thread more thoroughly then:

Does this fix problems with cutscenes? i.e. in TR2/Sold Out neither cutscenes nor does the background music play for me. Has this also been happening with the Sold Out Version of TR1?That story is not finished yet. Simulation is working on it. Jjohn gives valuable information, and i have all the original TRaiders so i could upload more soundfiles if needed. Wait for Sim's reaction.

TR2 - Sounds like you have a dodgy CD. Might be able to do a similar thing as we have done with Sold Out TR1

TR3 - That is as expected. They changed the way they use audio. The CD is just data and the audio is in one huge WAD file.

I only have one CD drive---

Is it possible I could burn my entire TR2 cd + new music files onto a new CDR then play it?

Or save the new music to my hard drive, then somehow get the cd to read music from the hard drive...

Hi there Miss Lara
Yes you can solve your problem with 1 cd drive.
What you neeed to do is use your cd burning software( Nero etc) to create a "mixed mode cd".
Simulation metioned that he can upload the 60 audio tracks. Burn these audio files and all the files from your Tr2 cd onto the mixed mode cd and you should then be able to play Tr2 with full audio using just the 1 new cd.
( Just check with Sim that these 60 tracks are numbered in order that they appear on the cd 1-60 (or probably 2-61) Then make sure you add them to the burning software in the same order-If you do this the game will pick up the right tracks automatically)

Possible Fix for TR2 audio .............

Hi guys (MissLara, Aaron, Illyria)

Do you want to try the method we used with TR1?

My TR2 works fine, so I can't test it myself  and I don't know if it will fix the cutscene problem either?

But if you do. you can download the audio files and instructions from here:-

That good news. I was waiting for someone to confirm it would work. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif

My version of Sold Out TR2 works fine, so perhaps they have had some bad production runs?

I'll get TLR on the case.

Hi, I can hear the music in TR2, but, I don't know why I can't see the cutscenes, however, I can see the FMVs, but the ohters no, I test the cd in some other pcs, and it work well, I don't know the reason, when the cutscene should to start, appear the menu of end of level, and the cutscene is skiped; These are the characteristics of my pc:

Pentium 4, 2.66Ghz
Graphic card NVIDIA Geforce 4 mx 440 of 128mb
1Gb of RAM memory
SO Windows XP
Directx 9.0b
The last drivers for my graphic card

What was wrong? I can understand why in other pcs works, if somebody can help me... http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/c-3.gif

Hi Sermongar,

Do you have 2 DVD/CD-ROM drives?

Try these different fixes

If you do try using the other drive.

If that still doesn't work try disabling the second drive in the Device manager. (This worked for me http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif ). Open the Device manager and right click on the CD-ROM and pick Disable.

Open the Device manager and right click on the CD-ROM and pick Properties. Go to the Properties tab and disable Digital CD audio.

Let us know how ou get on? http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif

I had exactly the same problem as MissLara. I got the TR Trilogy for Birthday several months ago. It has the Cokem emblem on it, just like MIssLara. TR1 and TR3 music work fine, but TR2 doesn't. The music files will play in Winamp in TR1, but not TR2.
Also in the tutor level ,Lara doesn't give you any verbal instructions on how to move her around like the other 2 games. Is this on an audio track?
I wanted to try the fix that Simulation worked out, but when I tried to download the "tr2audio.zip" file, I got an error saying the file didn't exist. Has the file been moved? :(

Hi TimJ,

Welcome to the forum. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif

Yes the link was to my personal website, but we have now created a proper link on the forum which has help and links to the sound files.

Yea Baby! The fix works!! http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/c-5.gif

I have to admit, the first burn I made, I forgot and left track 1 (the dummy audio file) in. Messed up the track order. You would hear cutscene dialog with a character that wasn't there. Pretty strange.

But I erased it and burned again. Everything seems to be in sinc now.
Thanks for the help! :D

are we supposed to leave the audio in wma format? or raw? or wav or what?

btw, I tried the disable one drive fix, and it didn't work. the game froze completely. Of course my cdroms don't show up as cdroms in the device manager...they are listed under "unknown"

Hi Aaron, http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif

WMA format is fine.

Unkown CD-ROM devices? Have you tried uninstalling the "unkown devices" in the Divice manager, rebooting and let Windows find them again?
