Hi there,

My grandfather has a PC with win98 and there is a sound problem. If you put a music CD in the computer you hear the cd playing but if you play a game you don't hear any sound. I checked the settings in windows and the soundcard and everything is enabled...

Is this a settings problem or is it a broken soundcard?

First, check you digi audio cable from CD-ROM drive to soundcard, it must exist :D
Then check you MB vendor for latest chipset drivers to enable DMA mode properly to play CD-audio in games. E.g. this "gluck" takes place under W98 on VIA KT mainboards...
You can e-mail me your system info and Direct-X report to esconder@mail.ru & we'll see if I can help... http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif

The fact that you can hear an ordinary audio CD means that the audio cable is connected which is a good start. But Win98's multimedia settings need to coincide with the drive number, thats assuming that you're talking about TR1 or TR2.

Win 98 is slightly different than later OS's in that you can actually change the default CD audio drive. I don't use it anymore but if I remember rightly then you have to go to Control Panel and the choose the Multimedia option. Select the option that sets the CD audio and make sure it's set to the same drive as your CD. Try also setting the Enable Digital CD Audio option.

Hope this helps. ;)
