View Full Version : Printer Probem
I bought a Lexmark 1180 all in one printer a month ago, it ran out of black ink, so I removed the cartridge, so it used the colour cartridge to make black until I got a new black one (it can run on colour only, but not black only)
Anyway, got a new black and colour cartridge (original). Black one worked fine, when the colour one ran out, I installed the colour cartridge and it did not work. Then I noticed the printer indicates that a colour cartridge is installed even though I have removed it! I tried taking out the black one and it indicates that no black cartridge is installed but a colour one is, although both cradles are empty!
I have uninstalled the drivers, got new ones from the Lexmark site, unplugged printer, and USB cable for two hours, still same problem. Even tried it on my laptop.
I have checked the pins in the printer cradle and they seem clean.
Looks like I will have to take it back tomorrow, but in the meantime I was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem as me?

Sorry! Dunno. It's crazy! :D
Nope HH. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif Sounds like it's screwed up to me. Take it back, like you say.
Hi Net! http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/jumper.gif Henhead. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif
http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif Hi Net & Joseph
Should of stuck with my old HP printer
The new black and colour cartridges nearly cost the same as the printer
As I read earlier on the web while trying to find a soloution for this problem Which? Magazine found that some printer ink cost more per millilitre than vintage champagne http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/yikes.gif

:D Yeah the cartridges pay their bills actually. Printers are so cheap nowadays.
You say HP. I have a HP Officejet G85. Never failed. I still know what i paid for it: 1.795 dutch guilders, back in 2000. That would be €750,- today. Cartridges cost me €30,- for black, €42,- for colour, haven't checked exactly but that's about accurate. What i 'm so glad of is that the machine never failed!
Personally I prefer Canon printers. Rarely have a problem with them even the cheapies.
Henhead does it not ask you if you have replaced a cartridge and to confirm which one. You may need to re-align the print head. Go to Control Panel click on printers and other hardware. Click view installed printers. Then right click on the printer and click properties. Under maintenance tab you should have a button that says Print Head Alignment. You could also try cleaning the nozzles and doing a nozzle check. It might require deep cleaning. It pays to clean the nozzles regularly. You usually have to do a print head alignment when you replace a cartridge. Hope some of this helps. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif
Got a replacement, and all is well :D
Aha! http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif Good for you! :D

Instead of paying £20+ for a ink cartridge(!) I shop around on Ebay and can usually pick one one up for a few £'s. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
Joseph I thought cartridges were expensive here with my first Canon cartridges costing about $36 for an all in one. The price has now come down on the later printers my Canon i250 and the newer Pixma 1000 both use the same cartridges. One for Black and one for colour. A twin pack of Black is $24.95 and a twin pack for Colour is about $36. The i250 cost me $69 and the Pixma was $120. The Pixma is very quiet and is also fast. Also have a an S750 but it needs a new print head because I made the mistake of using non genuine cartridges. That one prints 20ppm black and white and 14ppm colour. I also have an Epson dedicated Photo printer which reads media cards direct.
The replacement printer had a colour and black cartridge included, as did the original. In reality the the two extra new cartridges i recived nearly covered the outlay for the printer itself!
So you could look at it that for my trouble I got a free printer!! http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/jumper.gif
