i have came up with some common questions every novice will ask:

1. what is trWest?

2. what can you use as a switch to open a door if there's no lever or switch in the wad? or can you import a switch from another wad?

3. can there only be 1 wad in a level? and only 1 texture set in a level?

4. how do you make regular spikes visible pointing upward from the ground? and also, can you make a hallway with spikes that will go down if you turn a switch?

5. can you make your own graphics (objects)? if you can, with what program?

well, take it away, all you experts! http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif jliboy64@hotmail.com

TRwest is a program that lets you take objects from different wads you have and add them to an existing wad or create your own new one. Be sure to read to documentation on the TRwest homepage. You can download TRwest at http://www.jps.net/mikejj/trwest/

You will have to import a switch from another wad if you plan to use a switch to do something.

There can only be one wad in a level and one texture set. If you want to add objects form other wads use TRwest. If you want to make a custom texture set use Texture Edit. You can download Texture Edit at http://www.3dactionplanet.com/tombraider/

There is no program available for us to make our own custom wads from scrap. It would be to complicated for us to use so they didn’t release for the game and it isn’t on the internet either. With TRwest you can get objects from Tomb Raider The Last Revelation disk. If you want object from all the games except TR1 download TR2Wad at http://trwad.50megs.com/Tools/Index.html

To get lara to grab the quest item click on the puzzle item and click the Letter O for the OCB window to come up. If it is a low pedestal type 4 in the window just above the okay button and if it is a normal height pedestal type in 68. Press enter for the number to stick. It is in the manual on page 41.

For the Spikes you first need to place the spikes where you want them and place a trigger for them before Lara would see them, if you want them to look like they were already there. Either before or after you have triggered each one of the spikes, you need to click on each separate spike and enter 20 into the OCB settings. To get to the OCB settings press the letter O while the spike is selected. Then place the switch where you want it. I tested it with a lever switch. Click on the switch and then click on the floor below it and trigger it. Then click on the white box with text next to the pink trigger button. In the box that appears click on the box next to the word “type”. Select switch from the menu and press ok and press ok again to get back to screen. Then trigger all the spikes again under the switch square. I tested using the tut1 wad and it seemed to help if I raised al the spikes 2 clicks to make all of the spikes show in game. To raise the spikes click on the spike object and click the floor + button.

Hope this helps,

this is not completely true.

1)It would be to complicated for us to use so they didn’t release it ?

(matter of opinion).

2)There is no program available for us to make our own custom wads from scrap.

there are a few programs currently available, that can be used in combination to achieve this purpose (a couple of which you've mentioned). the missing ingredient is strpix3 by Turbo Pascal. in this prog you can open an existing .wad and view separately all object textures and meshes. textures can be exported to a paint program, and modified, or replaced, creating new outfits for Lara, or a new skin for any object. an object mesh can be exported as a .dxf file to a number of cad programs. then modified, or replaced with your own creation. and reimported to wad. for an example if you create a widow pain in a cad program, and save it as .dxf in a manner described in the strpix documentation, you can import it into a slot used for a shatter object. animation's and collisions are retained in the objects mesh slot within the wad. so now you have a widow shatter object. (collision infos can now also be modified in strpix) so using the programs you mentioned above in combination with strpix, and a cad program you truly can make wads from scratch.

refer to my past post "new vehicle wad" for another example, and a link to the strpix home page.

Ps. myself and others are currently working on tutorials for this process.

I WANT TO THANK EVERYONE FOR THEIR INPUT TO MY QUESTIONS! all the problems i asked are answered! but here's some more questions!

1. i am having trouble using trWest, it appears everytime i tried saving a new wad, an error message pops up saying that this program must be closed, what's up with that?

2. do anyone know how to make apply a series of triggers about opening a door with a key?

3. do anyone know how to make lowering ceiling with spikes that you can stop if you pull a switch?

4. can you edit textures with trWest?

thank you jliboy64@hotmail.com :D
