View Full Version : Just got Glidos running..Yeah!
I just wanted to say that after two days of serious struggling with the installation of Tomb Raider Gold, TRUB, VDM Sound and Glidos on my XP I have FINALLY done it! I even somehow managed to mute my computer by screwing up my audio device (I have no idea how that happened-thankfully all I had to do was uninstall and reinstall the media control device).
I just bought my Glidos license--like you could actually play the game with that obnoxious spinning logo (when I heard about the spinning logo I figured it would be down in the bottom corner or something..not in the middle of the screen!) It was only 10 bucks, well worth it. Thank you wonderful forum members for recommending Glidos!!
Great shandroid!
Have fun with the game http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
So how did you get it running in the end? I've managed to install it and the first level runs OK, but the FMV's won't play and the game won't load the second level at all.....
Hi Jordana. Well, to tell you the truth, I am assuming the entire game will play correctly. I just started playing Unfinished Business (I am waiting to play TR1 because I have played that a lot already on PS1. So far I am on the first level of UB and it and TR1 save fine, and the first cinema plays fine on TR1. Are FMVs the cutscenes? I am not sure if they are working or not. I hope so. This is what I did to install Glidos:
I downloaded Glidos setup AND Paul's installer. Right after those, I downloaded VDM Sound from a link at Glidos. I first installed VDM Sound on my computer, then I installed Glidos and let the installer install Tomb Raider. It, however, was not able to install UB, so I just installed it directly from the CD instructions. Then, I used the dos prompt to install VDM Sound (it was on my computer, but I think Glidos needed it connected somehow to their setup--dont ask me why), see the instruction page at Glidos.
Next, since I bought TRGold, I found the Voodoo version of Tomb.exe on the disc and copied it to C:\Tombraid Tomb.exe. Also, I did the same thing with UB-found the Voodoo version of Tombub.exe and copied it to C:\Tombraid. That is all it took. Paul has pretty good instructions-that was the only way I was able to set everything up. If you still have trouble, you might want to join Smartgroups.com--the Glidos forum. Paul tends to answer people's questions. Who is better qualified to help than the creator himself? Good Luck!!

No FMV's in TR1 Gold, shandroid http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
And FMV's are NOT cutscenes ;)
Ok, Bokkie (aka FancyPants ;) ), you can't just leave a reply saying what FMVs are not and not say what they ARE!! Please do us all a favor (those of us who are not computer game lingo wizards) and give us definintions of FMVs, cutscenes, and cinemas. Also, why are there no FMVs in TR Gold? Its the first TR which would have them (whatever they are) right? Oh, ugh, please educate me Bokkie, k?
P.S. Being from Serbia, you may not have heard the term "fancypants" we here in Iowa use it to mean "someone who knows it all," a compliment of sorts! http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/whistle.gif
Hi shandroid http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif
FMV stands for Full Motion Video. It's a digital video file format and can be played by the player supporting the specified file format. TR1, TR2 and TR3 are using RPL file format (may be played with Escape Player). TR4 and TR5 are using BIK file format and AOD is using MPEG file format (may be played with Windows Media Player).
Cutscene is a part of the game - game renderer is used to show the scene instead of the player included in the game.
Cutscenes usually use less disk space than FMV's, but FMV's are usually better quality than cutscenes.

BIK files may be played with RAD video tools. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
(can be downloaded from here (http://radgametools.com) )
Thank you TR-Player and Bokkie! Hey, since I do not have an Escape Player, I have Windows Media Player, Real One Player and Quicktime, can I get a plug-in to see these FMVs from the earliest games? And how would all this work? I am still a bit confused. By the way, I only have TR Gold, TR2 Gold and Lost Artifact for the PC. All my other games are for PS1 and 2. Thanks!!
Hi shandroid http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif
You can download Escape RPL Player here (http://www.cubeit.com/ctimes/download/rpl_player.zip) (764 KB) http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
Uhmm, I forgot that you already own TR1 Gold.
On the TR1 Gold CD, there is a directory called Eidos. There is ESCAPEplay.EXE file inside. That's the player. Double click on it and the player will start.
In fact, you already have the player on TR1 Gold disc ;)

I have to say that Tomb Raider Looks much better on Pc with glidos than without.
Also..tomb raider 1-tomb raider 5 looks much better on PC than on PS. O nthe PS lara is small and on Pc she is much bigger. On Ps her head is so small. On PC Lara's face is so pretty and lovely that you can even see the lil green line on her nose.
