Hello, all;

I am an artist. I have enjoyed playing TR and immensely enjoy working with learning the level editor. I love it. I am not a programmer, yet have learned Linux when it first came out (that's not exactly an easy task for an artist/secretary, but doable)...

What I would like to do is to create new objects... refrigerator, furniture, alter Bad Guys, etc. I have the artistic ability to do so.

I played around with Active Worlds for a few months, building there. I like the environment and ease of TR/Level Editor.

Do any of you others have any experience or suggestions to direct me to which editors or programs that would be most useful? I have Paint Shop Pro v. 7, and a Wacom pen/pad. I was wondering if I need now to get into 3D Studio or Bryce or something else?

Thanks for any and all suggestions.

When the Level Editor was released, one's ability to make modifications in the wads was almost nil... Programs were developed such as Jack and StrPix2 which opened the door to changing the textures in both the images for the structures (floors, walls, ceilings) and the textures for the objects. Another excellent program was recently created named TRWest which allows users to move objects from one wad to another. A big move forwards in making the Level Editor more versitile.

As far as crating new objects like the ones you mention, so far I'm not aware of anyone reaching that point. The software would have to be fairly sophisticated. You'd be looking at a program that would have to accomplish a complicated task in a way simple enough for the average user to comprehend.

There's a lot of people getting hooked on doing things with and for the Level Editor and who knows what Eidos may do in the future that will assist users in that direction?

One thing is for sure... there's a lot you can do already with the Level Editor to create really fascinating levels. :D
