Von Croy's Glasses

At the beginning of Coastal Ruins part 2 I picked up von Croy's broken glasses but have never been able to work out what they were for. Please help.

There is nothing you can use the broken glasses for, you can pick them up or leave them, it makes no difference. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Also I don't know if this has to do with any of it, but in aod when Von Croy is killed doesn't Karel brake his glasses?
