View Full Version : Bike Jump in Level 29
Fortunately, I had read your reply to my earlier post before the web server problem. I've been following your suggestion for the past two days and cannot make the bike jump that small gap in Level 29. I have the bike lined up perfectly to follow a straight line from the bottom of the stairs through the opening. It does not touch or hit the wall at any time. No matter when I hit the nitrous the bike does not seem to have enough speed to clear the gap. The speedometer never gets into the red zone (at the bike's fastest speed the needle only reaches about two marks before the start of the red zone). After the bike goes through the small opening, the front wheel hits the slope across the gap and then the bike falls to the floor. Help!! I've tried 50+ times to get this to work. I keep thinking that this should be an easy jump compared with some of the earlier challenges in TLR but I just cannot get it. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks for your help.
OK, the bike doesn't go much faster than what you've got yours to go. the rest of the speedometer - like a Lada's - is just there for decoration. Make sure you're not using up your nitrous before you complete the jump (ie, get up the other side). You need to have enough nitrous left to burn up the other side. If you still don't make it, then try edging your bike left a bit as you take the jump. That bit of the slope's not as steep. Other than that, all i can say is 'keep trying'. Once you've done it it's easy. Later...
Lots and lots and lots of moaning!!
Two days and about 100 trys later and I still can't get that bike over the gap!!! I've tried nudging the bike left, then right, then approaching the gap at an angle, and hitting the nitrous at all possible times. I even downloaded the gamesave for this level in case I had messed up somewhere during my gameplay to this point, and still no luck!!
Could this problem be caused by using a system which is less than that recommended for the game?
I've successfully played the game up to this point using the following:
Windows98 Second Edition
Intel MMX 166 MHz
32.0 MG RAM
DirectX 7.0
73% of System Resources free
It's been a bit slow loading at times but, otherwise, I've had no problems.
Could this be the reason for failing to get the bike across the gap? I sure hope not because I can't afford to upgrade and would hate to have to quit TLR at the halfway point.
Look forward to hearing from you. Thanks.
I don't think it's your system. I'll get Jenna or someone to have a look for you.
Hmmm... Mary let me ask you a few questions, they mat seem like really stupid ones but bare with me so I can see exactly where your problem might be. Ok..are you sure you installed the nitrous oxide feeder? How far are you backing the bike up before the jump? Again I know these questions seem stupid, and Im sorry but we need to know these little details to figure out where the problem is! Dont get frustrated Nick and I can figure it out together for ya!! http://www.metropolitan-internet.net/tlrboard/smile.gif
Hi, Jenna. No problem with any questions you want to ask me. Anything that helps me find a way to make that jump is very much appreciated right now.
I'm pretty sure the nitrous is installed. It worked just fine at the start of Level 28. And now in Level 29, the green bar appears in the upper right corner when I press on the sprint button (i.e., the ?/ key) and the speed of the bike is higher than if I did not activate the nitro. I've also tried re-installing the nitrous feeder from the inventory just to be sure that it was in place on the bike.
I have the bike at the bottom of the stairs and pulled back as far as I can get it. Both wheels of the bike are on the ground before the start of the steps. I accelerate from this start position and hit the nitro around the top of the stairs. As I've mentioned before, I have tried all kinds of variations on when to hit the nitro to try to find the right time to gain speed for the jump.
Does this help you narrow down where I'm going wrong? Once again, thanks for your help (and patience).
Ok...lets try this and see if it works. I think you need to back up the bike further. Position the bike not towards the middle of the ramp but a little off center towards the left....back the bike up almost as far as it will go. Dont worry you wont back into the ravine cause there is kind of a low ceiling to stop you. From there make sure that the bike is sitting flat and not on a slope or anything, and punch it. That should make sure you gain enough speed before you hit the nitrous. And remember dont hit the nitrous until right before you jump. I think that will do it, but if not let me know! Good luck to ya and keep me posted. Laters
Ummmmm...what ravine? I wonder if we're talking about different levels.
I'm at the jump in Level 29, Trenches - Part 2, that comes at this point in the walkthrough:
"Use the revolver/lasersight to shoot the button in the distance. Now drop back down to the ground and get on your bike. Drive west around the corner and you will find two sets of stairs. Drive up the right set of stairs and hit the nitrous, while staying to the left to get through the narrow opening after the stairs, to make the jump."
I don't think there's a ravine in Level 29. There's a ravine in Level 28, Chambers of Tulun - Part 3, and I had no problem making the jump using the nitrous in that level.
I will be away until the middle of next week so I won't be able to try any new suggestions for the jump until I get back. Bye for now.
Success!!!! So please ignore my previous message.
I returned to the game one last time before leaving for vacation to try Jenna's suggestion of backing the bike up as far as possible. By positioning the bike in the extreme far corner opposite the steps on the flat piece of floor and then gunning it, the jump was easy. You were right, Donkasta.
Is that a ravine behind that wall in the corner?
Thanks for your patience and help.
Im glad you made it!!Yes the ravine was behind you...it was the one you jumped in the beginning of the first trenches level. Good luck with the rest of your game!
