Shooting Red Button in Trenches - Part Two

I'm at the point in Trenches - Part Two where I am to shoot the red button with the revolver/scope. The button is red even before I shoot it. I suspect that once I shoot the button, the door to the narrow opening after the stairs opens and I can get through. I have shot the button, but nothing seems to happen. Can you help me?

This is hard because the button is red, and so is the laser. You have to hit the button pretty much in the middle for the door to open with revolver/lasersight. Job done.
