i gotta say, this game was my favorite out of all the series. i thought the story was great and the settings were awsome. was this game any of your favorites?
Nahhh... the only plus point was tombs n not jungles/cities. The graphics sucked, and the puzzles were.. kinda irritating.

i really dont care about the graphics, especially if its kinda old and it was testing 3-d explorations. i think natla was the best baddy. she made the most sense outa things.
Bit harsh, are`nt you Tomb Invader? It was the first 3D game where you could actually look up and down over ledges, and the first computer character that grabbed the attention and addiction of men and women all over the world.I have very fond memories of it.

I loved Natla too (yes, I know she was French, but that doesn't matter) and at the time it was awesome! I couldn't stop Jumping aand using the 0 button to look... in all directions! Nostalgy, nostalgy.

i miss those days when id come home and sit down to play my tomb raider.
Yep,before l played that 1st level of TR,l was an R.P.G. player,Particularly Ultima 7 etc.Tomb Raider 1 changed my gaming life.I used to dream l was climbing rocks and jumping chasms!Oh.Definitely nostalgia.

When TR1 came out I bought my first PC for that, you know. I turned the box and rode the exposé and I thought: "A PC can't be that expensive? Let's have a look" and I immediately bought one (and i got a copy of TR1 for free). I still remember me driving in my car with a computer monitor on the chair aside me! You see, in Paris (where I studied), you see lots of weird people, but not a 20 year old in a rusty Citroen 2CV (do you know that car? it was hellish! when i had the money i immediately bought a Mercedes ;) ) with a PC case on her knees and a monitor gasped into the other front seat :D :D :D !
Quite nostalgic, eh?
I bought my copy 2nd hand!I didn`t think it would be my thing,l expected something like Doom, which was the general sought of thing going back then.I can remember right from that first FMV,right from the opening sequence where she shoots the wolves before entering that first cave,l was entranced. From then on l couldn`t leave it alone,it was so totally different.Yes,l liked Natla as a villian, too. She had class.

Not only was she classy, but she was believable too. Imo.

they ought to have more female villians on tomb raider. natla was pretty the only big bad guy. sophia (leigh/lee?) wasnt too improtant. i dunno there was just something about natla that made her better, but looking at the character sketches it looks like next gen is gonna have a female baddy  .
I liked the mummies in the first one, too. The way they had that creepy groan, threw fireballs at you,and exploded when you shot them. You had to make sure you were`nt too close. They made the mummies in TR4 pretty sad and pathetic l think.
Tante_Betsy

Yes indeed. Those TR4 mummies weren't too impressive, in fact. But that also counts for those TR1 demons!
Were they those red Wing-ed things?Easy to kill,yes,but l rather liked the creepiness of when you walked into a room where their eggs were and they`d start throbbing and pulsing.{Heartbeat music in the background}
It was the anticipation of Knowing that at any minute......

Well yes. That was quite... impressionant indeed.

hmmmm....
i think i'll have to check out TR1.
i've only played its short little demo, but
i was dazzled with the swimming underwater part.
say, that natla sounds sexy http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif ...never seen her.
i wonder if everyone was waiting for a climatic catfight between the two ladies..?
LOL
Betsy,
over here in California, near San Francisco,
there is..was...maybe now out of business, an importer of 2CVs.
but shipped in pieces i think for legal reasons.
then the car was put together -- the body and mechanics.
this was the curved-backed sedan style.
it was painted with a flashy two-tone color-scheme.
this was like 11 years ago....$5000 - $6000 i think was the price!!!
i like those 2CVs with the little corregated box on the back.
...sounds like something Lara might find herself driving.

Yep, original and best as far as I am concerned! First game I played so I suppose that is why i love it so much. It was just so new and different. Was it really 5 years ago.....

OH NO! WHY HAVE I SOLD MINE FOR 6500FF (about eeh... 300 dollar) THEN!!!
My god, Needa_Gamepad... I knew there were excentric people but driving around in a $6000 deux-chevaux    ...
And I had one of those, from 1961 it was, a movable-roof version.
Well, that won't be a Aston Martin as a trade-in for my trusty old E220 then...

LMAO http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif,
well, Betsy,
when U quit the Army, perhaps U can come to the States and
start a Citroen importing business. ;)
...better on the West Coast,
and not in the Midwest since auto-making is their bread and butter.
how about some of those other models too.
(Goddess ? or DS? or some name like that...).
oh yeah..how about those classic looking gangster Citroens like was in the movie "Diva"?
i still think we should see Lara driving a 2CV (movable roof version) in some FMV.
...or a LeCar, especially if she drives around in Ireland.
i was told there's alot of LeCars...R5s, in Ireland.
The original game may lack certain things that the others have such as improved graphics engine and background music etc...
But for me its definetly the best one of all, there's just something about it...
Btw I've never played the playstation version, but I've heard that there is more music on it then the PC version?

If you sharpen up the graphics TR1 would be a good game even now.I wonder how much of this is nostalgia or love of the original?
BTW who thinks Natla and Sophia Lee bore a resemblance?
Resemblance
If it weren't for their names I'd say they were the same person! They're both evil women that fly and shoot energy blasts. The only difference is that Sophia was imune to bullets, and she was British, right?

I've never played TR1 only the first level and the house, whats the plot of the game? http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif  :D
You got to remember that at the time TR1's graphics were revolutionary, there was no other game with graphics like it.
Sure it looks a bit dated now, but its still excellent fun!
I don'tknow if it was the best...but it is the first...the one the brought tomb raider and Lara into our lives!!!
TR1 was the very first game I ever played. I remember wakeing instantly at 2:30 am with "I haven't tried that" ringing in my brain and running to turn on the game. I was truly stumpified with those 3 lead bars and what what to do with them.Anyone else have trouble with that one or am I the only dummy?
Of all the mid 90's "new" truly 3D games, I think Duke Nukem was the one that swamped everything else. It was mounds of fun, easy to play, and had renewable value in that you could easily make your own levels. In its day, its graphics were far superior to Tomb Raider 1 which was its supposed equal at the time. The original Duke game levels are assembled 1000 times better than this boring jump and grab, leap from point a to point b, route around for med packs stuff. Its follow up game, Shadow Warrior, was the best game ever made. Aside from having Duke Nukems mid 90's superior 3D graphics capability, and the ability to make your own levels which kept the game fresh, the scenes, accents, enimies, weapons, and sounds were incredibly realistic, and made the game. This game really had "Atmosphere". Its only downfall was that the designers changed the build engine, and made it harder to create your own levels in Shadow Warrior than it was in Duke. Of the Tomb Raider games, I think the Last Revelation is the best of the series. The graphics are now excellent, and the game is not so "play like" in appearance and play. Its shortcomings are that the play is the same old routine. Running, jumping, grabbing, pulling, and rediculously hard puzzles. Many times the prize is not worth the effort. The Tomb Raider series seriously lacks in game flow or continuity. You can get into areas where you should not be before doing something you needed to do first. You can get into areas where there is not a clue as to how to proceed, or the clue is so hidden you have no hope of finding it within a reasonable amount of time thus frustrating the player. This is particulary noted in the later levels of The Last Revelation where the game is utterly impossible to play without a detailed walkthrough. Thats frustrating as hell, and turns me off from maybe buying future releases. Earlier games such as Tomb Raider 1 have seriously poor graphics, and a difficult to use inventory ring amongst other things. Making new levels in the Tomb Series is very difficult, so I cannot see the feature helping to keep the game alive and fresh as the feature did for the Duke Nukem and Shadow Warrior series. Out of a 1 to 10 scale with 10 being the best. Duke Nukem = 8 1/2, Shadow Warrior = 10, Tomb Raider Last Revelation = 7 1/2, Tomb Raider 1 = 5

I have very fond memories of the original Tomb Raider. It was the very first game I ever played, and I still consider it the best. Tomb Raider II was not nearly as "tomby" (that's definitely a word born of the TR phenomenon!) and rather anti-climactic in that the dragon was quite easy to kill if you remembered the opening FMV. Tomb Raider III had great levels (especially India and the South Pacific), but again the end was anti-climactic. I hate to say this, but I have the same complaint about Tomb Raider IV. Seth is imprisoned over the island, and all one need do is keep quick-loading medi-packs...I was hoping for a final gargantuan struggle that made me jump - repeatedly. Tomb Raider V and all four Gold games (Unfinished Business + Shadow of the Cat, the Golden Mask of Tornarsuk, the Lost Artifact & the Times Expedition) didn't have much in the way of climaxes. But back to reminiscing...
I will never forget playing the second half of the Vilcabamba demo. I downloaded it because it was small and sounded better than anything else; and I entered the world of Tomb Raider. I envy those who are playing this game for the first time; there seems to be an aura about it that is never quite regained when you know what's coming next (curses on a good memory!). I bought the game as soon as I could (in the process downloading both TR2 Gold demos) in the Trilogy Edition, and have been sinking deeper and deeper into the world of Lara Croft ever since. Hands down, TR1 is my all-time favorite game. I doubt we'll ever see another like it...and where's her cute honeybun after TR1 and TR1 Gold?!
I liked the TR1 settings best, especially the Atlantis levels, even if the enimies there were a bit... Weird..
If they made a game with the TR1 Levels and TR 4 & 5's moves and graphics, I would buy it :D
