Hi. I've read some of your notes lately on next generation tomb raider. I think it's amusing how so many people whine about lara being "Changed". I'm here to defend Eidos and Core for the great games they have brought us. First off, Lara has never stuck strictly to tombs. In the original, I think only three levels of the entire game were actually tombs. Second, Lara has always been a thief. In the original game she broke into Natla's headquarters to find out more info on the scion. Lara isn't "changing" she's being taken in a different direction. And besides, do you really think the creators of next gen care whether or not you like what they're doing with the game? They will do what they think is best regardless of what you think. If you don't buy the next game, somebody else will. I for one will be sure to get my copy. I am seriously impressed with ALL that I've read about the next game. Ok, bring on the hate.

howdy. fair play to you. Lara has indeed been rather light-fingered in her past adventures, although perhaps Core Design take more notice than you think of the opinions of their game-playing public, they're just a bit more descrete about how they collect their consumer data ;)
welcome aboard. how would you like Next Gen to play out ?

Thanks for the comments tlr. i read what I had written and thought I may have been a bit too abrasive with my words. My apologies. But my opinion stands. Also, I had no idea core accepted their fans criticizm. How would I like to see the game played out? Well, so far so good is about all I can come up with. I accept the next game with open arms and an open mind. But maybe more detail could be added. I'm sure what I'm saying has already been done or is in the works. But bullet holes in the walls, a splitrail fence that the characters can move under or vault over rather than being halted altogether, as well as more realistic characters throughout the game. What I mean is have extras that don't have any bearing on the game at all. People that can be killed for no apparent reason or that run when shots are fired. It's been done before, but it needs work. Also, if it's possible, make the dead bodies stop mysteriously disappearing before your eyes. That's pretty weak. Hopefully the new game systems will have enough memory to support such things. That's my 2 cents. Thanks for asking :D

Well, I respect that everyone deserves an opinion- I just hope you respect mine ;)
I can't honestly say I'm looking forward towards NG. We're going to find it harder to LIKE Lara if she's gone and broken into places etc. (But come on, Natla was evil). I do like modern settings, but I still think there should be SOME tombs or ancient settings. There are some parts which I do like, but that doesn't stop me counting the days until its release.
I've seen many more people who share this opinion, and I find that most people who like its ideas haven't played TR before (so they don't know Lara etc.) Most TR fans WILL buy NG, even if they don't like it. The question is, will they like it enough to buy any sequels core decides to make... that's when we'll find out if core has been doing its research.
Although who knows, maybe it might not be too bad. :D

Well put, Dan. Thanks. I still feel NG will be the best of the series. I like Lara's new look and everything about the game. However, I'm sure Core won't stray too far away from Lara's "esscence". In fact, I personally believe they will keep it enough like the originals to keep the die hard fans happy, but they will also add enough new material to keep ones like myself interested. Let's face it, how many times did you play the original before you got tired of it? That's what it has been like for me. Don't misunderstand, TR games are some of my favorite games out there. But sometimes it feels like I've been drug through the same games with the same annoying jumping puzzles five times over, with only one or two new moves and a few new weapons. To me, and I'm sure others feel the same, that sort of monotony gets old and tired. I think something had to be done. I liked TRC but when I was finished with the game I didn't feel like I needed more, like how I felt when I had finished TR1. TRNG has rekindled my interest in the Tr series. To sum it up, I'm very excited to see the "New and Improved" Lara http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

The more I think about it, the more I like it. I don't think Core would be stupid enough to make a game nobody liked. I like the changes in the gameplay they're making, but I'm not too sure about the Lara or the storyline (blah, blah, blah, you've heard it all before http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif )
I don't think I'll be too disapointed when it comes out, but a demo would really show us what we want- the FMV clip they've given us is exactly what we DIDN'T want to see.(Lara escaping prison etc.)
Yes, I'm getting to like it, but I'm still not completely convinced...

Now you're coming around. that's what I like to see. Even if you think you might not like the game, keep an open mind and wait until you get to try it. Once you've tried it, then complain if you don't like it.
I would like to see core make the load screen like TR1, 2 and 3, where you can reload to the beginning of any level you have completed. Also, In TR2 you look to either side while walking/running. That would be sweet if they brought that function back. I don't know why they got rid of it. Anybody got an idea?

Oh I'd love it if they brought that load screen back. I'd occassionally forget to save in a different slot which wasn't always a good thing to do.
And I agree with the idea that Lara should be able to climb over/under feces or small obstacles rather than be stopped by them (which gets really annoying).
I'd also like to see her be able to shoot rifles and larger guns from a crouching position (plus shoot from laying flat on her stomach--maybe crawl on her stomach to get under laser beams, etc.). Possibly even give us more control over hand-to-hand manuvers rather than letting a cut scene take care of business (don't know if it'll be possible with the limited number of buttons on a game controller).
NG should be interesting.
