View Full Version : Ideas for the next Tomb Raider game2

New-Raider
17-01-02, 18:28
Since I can't find last week's thread about this, I decided to make another, continuing from my last post.

An underwater tunnel in Lara's house leading to the yard was suggested.

"I had an idea expanding on the underwater tunnel idea!
A hidden drainage pipe (sewer-like) could act as a map to each exit."

Lara starts outside as all house doors are locked except one which is blocked on the other side.
All water entrences but one are also blocked.

Lara must swim through the drain, and turn each valve which unblocks the exit right after a switch in the cross section is activated (switch meaning trading places).

After a new water exit opens, a door holding a key will open.
The last door has no key but can unblock the other rooms to get the last key to unlock the trap door leading to the water tunnel.

After the last key is found, Lara goes out the connecting door, runs out in the yard, and must find a footpad next to a water tunnel to get to a secret room that is timed (all keys must be found for the footpad to be reveled).

All this is done with badies running around the house, attack animals in the yard (running around hedge maze), and giant and normal size water-rats in each tunnel.
Not to meantion aligators just below the house, swimming up to Lara's giant pool (pool wall open in ballroom/spa).

This might be a better idea for a custom level.
What do you think?

High praise is what you deserve. Why does no one else reply to my posts? :(
That is a more complicated suggestion than I was expecting, but great nonetheless http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif Rest asssured that I am taking all ths down, compiling a list of suggestions. Thanks, new raider :D

<BOOMING VOICE OF ALL POWERFUL BEING (TLR ONLINE)>: Does anyone else have any suggestions?

You're welcome.
Hey, does this mean you have some connection with Eidos?
Maybe a friend of a friend of a friend who works there?

Who me? Unfortunaltely not. Well, not yet anyway. But in the manual for the level editor it said they'd have a competition for the best level. So I plan to win that, get hired by Core and then revolutionise the world of computer gaming. :D  But until then, I'm just collecting suggestions for fun. ;)

It's in the manual that came with the level editor (page 2, paragraph3):
Check Tombraider.com for news, links and updates about the Tomb Raider Level editor...we plan to release more object sets, project files and texture maps and eventually hold a competition for the best'fan' Tomb Raider levels

New-Raider
19-01-02, 19:55
Oh that.
Sorry to break it to you, but they already had that last year.
From February - September (winners anounced October first), a contest was held for the best maze, most deadly traps, most imaginitive weapons and pickups, and best overall level made by a non professional.

New-Raider
19-01-02, 19:58
At the end of the contest, it was suggested another one might be held just before TRNG comes out for PS2, so don't give up hope.

If it does happen, it will be a 3D experience for the Flatland Rover plugin.

Huh?

Sorry to break it to you, but they already had that last year.
Ah ****. I didn't even have the level editor then

Back to the point, anyway; any more suggestions for Next Generation? It would be particularly interesting to hear what new moves people want from Lara

New-Raider
19-01-02, 21:11
I'm just thinking of Jacky Chan now.

Remember that bungy attack scene in the movie, she should do something like that.
In a moter bike obstical course scenario.

Hey, the Nortan bike company, must be getting alot of residuals and press now.

raider of tombs
19-01-02, 21:39
Yeah, I already have that bouncy bungee thing on my wish list. But on a motorbike, that's inspired, man :D
Jackie Chan? Are you talking about the bit in Project A where he whacks people with the bike? Hehehehe :D http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif I love that scene http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
I do think the idea with the pipes and valves in Lara's home would be better for a custom level. Her home is meant to be a training level. Some people might be new to TR and need to learn the moves.

New-Raider
19-01-02, 22:03
I just thought of something for the young Lara...

In shallow water, she could get on her hands and knees infront of a thin drain.
After highlighting the binoculars, lock the "Look" button with the scroll lock.
Press Return or Enter to automaticly magnify the drain.
Scan the area for a hidden clue inside.
Let scroll lock up to drop the binoculars so it hangs on Lara's neck.
Swim down the deep end to get a hook and rope.
Lasoo a high ladder on the suface and slide it down through the deep end of the water.
Scale the wall up, and then sidewards.
Throw a switch to widen the drain, and fall back down to crawl in.
The drain floor is slightly tilted at fist, but drasticly slides down a large water tube just an inch away.

Is that good enough?

This is a move that has been in a billion other movies. ("Matrix" style)
The hereo (for no apparent reason) has a lead pipe in the center of a giant motercycle circle.
The bikes run beside him as he runs the course and on the bending wall.
The pipe then hits each rider in many different ways, and they are thrown out of the ring like suddenly stopping a centrifuge.

I think they're ignoring us, New-Raider. We should tell tlr online; this is a form of bullying :(

I just watched a documentary on TV. Ever heard of the Rose Red mansion in Seattle? The house is said to contian tremendous amounts of "evil energy". When you leave a bedroom or something and turn around, the room you just left has suddenly become a ballroom or a kitchen. Many people have diappeared in the house through the years. If you want to see a little bit more, Stephen King is doing a fictional story about Rose Red on ABC on Jan. 27. I think something like that would make a great level in any TR game! Otherwise, a nice balance of city scapes and tomb style levels would do just fine.

<BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR> a nice balance of city scapes and tomb style levels would do just fine. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

Yes, it WOULD be... but no tombs...

Anyway, I was thinking that maybe the foreign characters could speak their own language, at least when Lara's not there. Maybe they could have subtitles. Although this might be a problem when making foreign versions.

raider of tombs
24-01-02, 20:12
Lara should be able to speak other languages too.

Does anyone have any original suggestions for new moves?

Cheeseflavoredpants
24-01-02, 20:32
tired of tombs are we, Dan? they are getting kind of tired, huh? I think tombs are good, if they do some heavy remodelling. I don't know exactly what, but something needs to be done if they are to keep to the underground. But I think city scapes would get tired as well, if that's all there was. So in my opinion, both are needed to make the game keep my interest. I like both.

Dan_the_Jazzman
24-01-02, 22:30
Yes, that's what I meant... it was a bit ambiguous. I meant they weren't going to put any tombs in, which annoys me. But then the usual storyline is that there's some artifact down there and she needs to get it- gets a bit repetitive. Yes, we need tombs in this game. But somehow with a different story...

Lots4Waldy
25-01-02, 23:09
I agree. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
That's why I didn't mind that Tomb Raider Chronicles wasn't in Tombs. Atleast she was looking for an artifact.

raider of tombs
27-01-02, 16:58
Here are the new moves I've heard suggested so far:
Cartwheels (for dodging bullets)
Forward somersaults (just for fun)
Freestyle swimming
Picking upobjects by rolling on them
lying flat(for hiding and using sniper rifles)
Climbing up a narrow hole by bracing her arms and legs against the walls and moving up by degrees
Leaning to look around corners
Kicking back off walls
Playing dead
Swinging under a horizontal rope

Any others?

New-Raider
27-01-02, 18:34
I also suggested some stuff on my other board at Lara Croft Online (http://www.laracroftonline.com/main_menu.html).
I thought instead of the tightrope walk, she could have a new way of getting across gaps.
This would involve a Batman like utillity belt just above her holster.

New-Raider
27-01-02, 18:44
It starts off as an upsidown worm crawl on a balance beam, grasping a short chain with ring from her belt, Lara pulls herself accross a little faster than without.
Halfway accross, a tighrope hangs diagonally above the beam.
Without finding a bungee cord (winch) until later, Lara pulls out a gapling hook, attaches it to the cord, and pushes off the beam, sliding accross to her true destination.
She can then kick the bad guy out cold, as she drops off.

The King movie will be on in my area later this evening. I will try to watch it if I can. On the topic of new moves, I love all the suggestions. But maybe you didn't knowlara can already do forward somersalts. Well, ok sort of. While running forward on level ground, do the dive maneuvre. When Lara lands she rolls forward. (Did i spell somersalts the right way?)

New-Raider
28-01-02, 04:03
She can also do nose dives.
From high up, do a standing foward jump and walk while in the air.
Lara will fall head first and break her neck.

Try drawing your guns in the middle of the roll, that's cool.

Flamethrower :D hehehe cool

Here are some other suggested weapons:
claymore mines (for setting booby traps)

tracer bullets
hand grenades (coloured smoke, HE, tear gas)
Barret light .50 cal sniper rifle
H&K G11 assault rifle (the caseless ammo gun)
AK47 (or derivative)
FN P90
FN FAL
FN Minimi machine gun (aka M249 SAW for its US Army designation)
Musketry (matchlock, flintlock, pistol, rifle, whatever)
Bring back the Desert Eagle, SPAS 12 shotgun/harpoon gun
Improve the harpoon gun (poison?). Or one of those limited-range harpoon guns where the spear is on a reel.
Long range sniper rifle (eg., PSG-1, accuracy International L96A1,WA2000)
RPG7 - a rocket launcher
Barretta 9MM (with silencer)
Lady’s gun(tiny 1 shot gun)
Lasers
Tasers
Tranquilliser gun
Slingshot
Longbow
Blowpipe
Garrote wire
poison or sleep darts
chakram or shoriken
knife/sword/scimitar. (throwing knives as well)
quarterstaff
A whip (you know... like whatzisname)
low-tech booby traps - of the triprope and spike-pit type stuff

New-Raider
29-01-02, 04:36
What about something new for Lara instead of the normal guns and explosives.
What about an Afican bolo, or a blowgun from India. (tranquilizer pellets and paralyzing darts only)
Lara has that East meets Wast way about her.
Those bamboo sticks could be replaced with a lead pipe.

Lots4Waldy
29-01-02, 11:34
I think there should be a level were she loses all her weapons and has to use stuff like you just mentioned.

New-Raider
29-01-02, 14:45
The level could also have a death count, where killings aren't optional, but a must.
Lara would be unarmed (combanation of kick-boxing and wrestling) until the next level, so she has to backtrack.

I think that the next Tomb Raider should be continuing to 'The Last Revalation' and 'Chronicles'.I would like to know if Von Croy found Lara. From what I have read,Next Generation isn't continuing. If anyone can tell me anything, please E-mail me.ERocketman41@aol.com

New-Raider
03-02-02, 03:03
I don't know where you heard it won't be a continuation.
The new game will continue where TRLR left off, with Lara sealed in a tomb and climbing out somewow.
However this will be in flashbacks starting at a tropicle paradise where Lara is laying low, letting everyone believe that she is dead.
Von Croy might be the one who gets her mixed up with these murder afer he gains Lara's trust.
Details are sketchy, but we can speculate from previous news.

raider of tombs

Had another idea for a new move:

Lara needs to get over a high fence. she can't grab the top and pull up as she normally would, maybe because the top of the fence is spiked and it's too high for her to just jump over. So she takes a run-up and jumps, but in mid-air she turns to face upwards and performs the 'Fosbury flop' high-jump technique

But we saw her being found by Von Croy at the end of Chronicles...

I haven't read read the whole thing so maybe it was already suggested, but I thought it would be really cool if Lara could fight in the game, without guns, 'cause we always see her fighting but we can't MAKE her fight... sort of like Alone in the Dark... Yeah, that would be cool.

If you didn't read Dan's spoiler, don't read this...
"But we saw her being found by Von Croy at the end of Chronicles."

No, we actually saw Von Croy assuming that she is still alive just from finding her backpack.

Anyway, Von Croy will eventually get her out of the rubble, and keep her secret, letting everyone else think she is dead.

edwojo44
14-02-02, 18:37
This is what I would write for the opening scenes, of NG;
An open field just outside London, three black limos are waiting in the fog. The sound of three large helicopters approching, a small army of body guards and Von Croy land, load a small chest and enter the limo's, they drive at high speed to London, the British Museum.
(A cut scene)
We see a Camel caravan crossing the desert, a cart laden with salt and spices and the battered looking Lara, making it's way west to a remote camp in the Atlas Mountains. They arrive at sunset, she carried to a hut, women attend to her.
(cut back to Von Croy)
His men bring in the small chest, as Van Croy walks the halls to an office, they enter and place the chest on a table, Von Croy opens and lifts out the Desert Eagles, and knapsack. Showing the items to the Director, and other members of the Royal Society. The Press is pushing foward, taking flash pictures of Von Croy and Items he found.
(cut scene to Lara)
She awakens to the sound of birds singing, she is in a daze, she looks around, she is dressed in flowing garments, a woman enters the hut, bringing cool water and food. Lara turns to speak, and faints. She awakes, eats and drinks, and wonders what happened, images flash before her eyes of the pyramid and the cave-in, but she can't remember who she is, or how she got here.
She lays down, as the sun sets. The next morning she is awaken to a commotion in the camp, one of the tribal leaders is waving an Algerian newspaper, at his wife's face, she takes is and reads the front page, a story and Lara's picture, she brings the newspaper to Lara. Lara reads the story and it all makes sense now, she was found by these people and taken out of harms way, but how much time did she have? She had to get back home, she needed to contact Jean-Yves.
She makes her way to the coast, from the higher elevations she can see the town of Alger and to the west about same distance away, Gibraltar.
Good thing she pinched, the knife she had a feeling she would need it. ;)

Dan_the_Jazzman
14-02-02, 18:51

She's not dead...

New-Raider
14-02-02, 20:33
Sgt.Salvo, that's pretty good, kinda like what I would've said.
You're forgetting something, but you might be saving it for the second level.
What is the connection between the guy holding the newspaper and a gang of theives?
Lara will witness a murder and will be running from the law, framed for crimes and a murder she did not commit!

New-Raider
14-02-02, 20:42
Remember the digital stealth tank that Lara "borrows"?
I was thinking, besides a revolving laser cannon on top, it could have a torpido launcher for Smart missiles on each side of the tank.
Of course the tank can ride through shallow water, but it's stopped at the deep end.

raider of tombs
16-02-02, 00:55
You should write fanfis, Sgt. Salvo! (That's an especially big compliment when you consider that I normally never use exclamation marks).
However, I was unipressed by your boorish gender stereotyping: women attending to Lara, that bit with the chief's wife. Disgraceful ;)

As for lasers, I think a laser cannon tank is way over the top but I think her pistols should be replaced by ickle lasers coz of how they never run out of ammo and they're so weak, lasers would make it more believable

New-Raider
16-02-02, 02:02
Ok, I get the idea.
A little too Top Cow.
Well, Lara needs some kind of edge to beat the competition.
Let's see, a jet pack with voice command shielding, no.
A cloak of invisibility and transportation, no.
Special gloves to shoot intense sound waves, no.
A mechanical arm fitted over her own arm which is activated by her mind to interface with computers, no.
A folded glider strapped under a cape, no.
Folding wings under the arms of a body suit, no.
Torso chainmail that gives the wearer super speed and stength, no.

Come to think of it, all Batman needed was a super computer, a utility belt, a great work out every 2 days, a keen mind, and a young sidekick with great reflexes.

Give Lara a sidekick to be her eyes and ears in an underground grapevine.

New-Raider

A young sidekick, New-raider? And maybe Lara could race him/her t an artifact and then the tomb starts crumbling and Lara gets trapped and the kid runs off. Then Lara is all bitter about it (coz she's left permanently injured) and goes after the sidekick. Original, eh?

I think we all knew Lara was alive!
New-Raider,
What is the connection between the guy holding the newspaper and a gang of theives?

There is no connection.
The Tribal Chief in that area, was a non-arab, Berber heardsman. Von Croys henchmen where, I assume Arab or Egyptian. The word would be out all along the coast of North Africa to be on the lookout for Lara.

raider of tombs;

The woman of Berber tribes, are treated with respect. And as such the men would of had the woman attend to Lara, while in thier midsts. The woman would provide Lara, with the clothing needed to blend in to make it home. And if Lara, needed mensware, for shorts, shirt and boots she could easly obtain them, by hook or crook.
I was not trying to stereotype anyone.
This thread is for....Ideas..for the next Tomb Raider game2, which I thought is for a lead-in to the Next Generation.

Which I'm sure we all have read about, and know the story of up to a point. This is only my ideas, for a halfway decent lead-in. Or could be the first level or two. Getting back home, and then to France.

As for weapons and equipment, she would have to obtain them on the way using every trick she knows. I would lead-in the Next Generation, using the old style of game play and look, and in the span of one level, blend into the new look, and AI of the new game.

What are your IDEAS?
