View Full Version : Crystal Dynamics--take note--jump trajectory
Especially in AoD, i found i had to make jumps that werent on the grid lines. for example. in the last domain, it was VERY hard to make one of the jumps there, because lara alsways overjumped. We need lara to be able to adjust the jump trajectory, instead of a static trajectory that only bothers players. Now in BloodRayne, you hold down the jump button to and let go when you want to have the apex of the jump. In this way, bloodrayne can adjust her jumping trajectory. Crystal Dynamics please institute this in legend! I BEG OF YOU!!
does it look natural though. because im picture a weird image of lara jumping and then dropping straight down mid flight.
I think the limitations given by the grid system seriously deteriorated the "acrobatics" of the game. What were they thinking with the windy arena in the Hall of Seasons??? That level was just painful.
I agree with Arsony that it would look unnatural. In Legend, it looks like they've limited her jump to nearly realistic expectations. She's not a vampire. :D http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif
I would not really like that. i want some of the classic game to be in it...
the jumps are more like a real person , but not completly , and i think thats why they add the grapling device... i think now is more hard to reach a point , because you have to do many moves , like in the video from the tv ,. you have to jump , activate the grapling device , and then jum againg and grab the point , and i like it lol , now the game its like more dynamic
I hated it in the old Tomb Raider where her forwards jumps where she was so slow to reach the ground though the back flips were so short. I wonder if there will be side flips?

Now, about jump trajectory, I must disagree - it would feel very strange in TR. What should be adjusted is the distance of the jumps.
I disagree a little with the distance of the jumps- it's not so bad if Lara can still do those flying leap jumps, as long as they are relevant to the situation.
I would prefer to see that they keep the run-up (or sprint run-up) and long jump in TRL. Athletes can jump farther if they do it this way in real life too.
Also, when confronted with a life/death situation, people can perform moves of super human strength. So I think if Lara is stuck up a height somewhere and has to jump a wide chasm to avoid something nasty from behind her, she should be allowed to do this almost impossibly long jump.
I always used to wait until the last split second before pressing jump JUST as Lara's feet left the edge, and my heart would always miss a beat until I knew she was safely on the other side ;)
I also think it looked cool in some of the older TRs when during a jump the camera is angled under Lara so you can see her soaring through the air to reach the other side. I guess everyone's going to disagree with me now, but I LOVED having to line Lara up for a jump - it was kind of like an art you had to perfect before you were worthy of being Lara-esque.

I knew about the hop from the start, but lara always swerved in the wrong direction, and I would plummet to DEATH. Jump trajectory would be more like this:

There is a reason I wrote "But not this" above that last image. I agree, unrealistic + tacky. In fact it defies the laws of physics
