What's the trick to jumping over the spiked ceiling in the room with the sign "ABONDON HOPE ALL YE WHO ENTER HERE"? I've tried to jump backwards but I end up laiding back in the room?

I hadn't read Marks message for the same problem till after I asked. I've tried about 50 times and finally went the other way, oh well.
