View Full Version : Level of Difficulity

i came up with this idea back in summer when i played AOD. like why dont they make the 'level of difficulity' option? there are a lot of things which help the newbies (and those who just like to play the game without having any troubles with the moves/jumps/puzzles/etc) but make the game too boring and easy for the loyal fans. lets say the hand thingy which makes the game a lot easier. and the ACTION key. in the prev. games we had to grab ledges, hold down the action key when climbing, pulling smth, etc. and now its kinda out of the game.
CD could make two (or more) different levels of difficulity: the 'easy mode' and the 'TR style mode' ( http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/mischievous.gif ) the easy mode would then have all these 'hands', 'automatic action' and some other helpers like lara could look at some hardly noticeable pickups or they could just glow like in aod. and the TR style mode would be... well TR style lol :D they could also make the custom mode so that the player could choose which helpers to enable.
what do You think? http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
I like the idea.
This brings up the idea SYS made up: HC mode option!
[EDIT] Just to let people know what I mean by this...
When selecting the HC mode, the game won't let you use cheats, medipacks, flares or any other weapon than pistols. Also it would select manual targeting and won't let you finish the level unless you have all kills and all pickups.
Cool huh
Also as SYS said: "It could be a feature in the game after you finish the game or whatever http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif ..."

Max Payne 2 has a nice feature. You have to play the game through to the end and then extra difficulty levels are made available and extra bonus games. havn't got there yet, but looking forward to see what it will be like.

They have that in KQ VIII and I really like that option, so yeah, they should make that a new TR feature http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

i think this option is easier to put in rpg games cuz since there are so many enemies the programers just make it so that the enemies need more hits in order to be killed. with a game like aod it would b a little harder because she can kill any enemy with a snap of the neck.
although it is possible to make difficulty levels. just look at the spider man game on ps1. in the easy mode he does everything automatically like throwing webs or something but in hard mode u have to jump throw the web let go of the web and then land or something. i think they couldve done this with tomb raider. ie: walk up to wat u want to climb jump grab pull up as apposed to just walking up to wat u want to climb and having her climb it automatically.
I've played a few older DOS games (like, Duke Nukem 3D, Wolfenstein 3D and Blake Stone) and they have this option. You can choose the level of difficulty you want, and the gameplay varies depending on which one you choose. In Duke Nukem, for instance, that has four different levels of difficulty, in the easiest level you face very few enemies and you can kill them with one shot or two. In the hardest level, the enemies are much more, they can't die easily and moreover, once they are dead, they respawn after a while (except for if you shoot them with an explosive gun). Also the Bosses are much stronger.
Great idea TC, I like classic TR controls http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/jumper.gif
Nah I just think they should just revert back to the original controls. AOD is easy..It's like in the Saniatarium level, when you see a mutant, it doesn't exactly matter as all you have to do is press action and it aims automatically.

I agree, they need to put in 'an option for the level of difficulty, that would help out a lot of people.
