View Full Version : !Tomb Raider Legend should!...
List updates in BOLD...
...include:
*Improved 'Tomb Raider' style sounds and music
-Title music could be authentic (TR1-TR4), but just improved!
*Story-line style like in TR3
-Choosing the way where to go next (TR3)
*Inventory system (very advisable!) like in TR3
-Small and big medipacks
-Flares
-Dual pistols (main weapon)
*Interesting, unique and stunning level design (more like TR3's)
-More temples and nature!
-More puzzles and traps!
-More (but not too many) statistics
*Story so far option...
*Crytals save-game system something like in TR3 (limited saves)!
*Without doubt there !MUST! be Lara's MANSION!!!
-Mansion's architecture (level geometry) should be realistic in all dimensions.
-The mansion's basic idea has to be taken from Tomb Raider III, but few interesting ideas can be adopted from TR movie mansion.
-Mansion should be bigger (for about 30 to 50%), with fully accessible rooms, that is: more rooms and more secret hidden rooms (some rooms can be opened only during the game process' progression)
-Mansion should has few extras inside like stereo and wardrobe: new clothes are available only during the game process' progression. AND NOTHING MORE, cause it isn't the sims game after all!
-Lara doesn't live alone; butler and tech-guy is in package with mansion (perhaps).
-Bigger yard (for about 50 to 100%) which includes horse riding, training site and beautiful garden. (of course, there should be training room inside the mansion too)
-Yard must be limited, that is, Lara can't go too far away outside of yard. (same as in TR1 - TR3)
-Environment should be interactive and variable
*Lara could make some cool moves - when buttons (D-pad's or keyboard's) aren't pressed for a while...
*More movies! NOT ingame's cut-scenes only!
*Standart secrets (somewhere about 63 of 63)
*Many, but unique SECRETS: secret levels, artifacts and events!
*Game's lenght (clean-time) 40-50 hours
*Lara's clothing: !standart! and much more (somewhere about 8 other type of clothing
*Some revalutions during the game
*Vheels: like canoe, quad-bike
*CONTROLS - more faster response! (Lara moves at the exact moment when button is pressed)
*Cool extra gymnastics!
*Kurtis Trent (!but just like a character which we can't control!)
*Tomb Raider VII out in time (not some 10 delays)!
*Bonus features!
-Tomb Raider 7 should include 3 special secret places which are (almost) impossiable to find!
-When game is finnished, then new secrets reveals in Lara's Mansion
...shouldn't include:
*Hand-to-hand combat (it's not TR-style it would be something more like 'Prince Of Persia: Sands Of Time' style game or Spider-Man and Matrix! Maybe just some (enemy) grabing like it is in TC's Splinter Cell)
*Any bugs or errors!
*Character intro (there is no need for that, cos it makes game less mysterious in some way...)*Choosing difficulty level! (it's stupid for TR!)
*Strenght updates
*Stupid stuff like money and that little hand...
*Talk to person - choosing dialog (no need for THAT!)
*VERY much new discoveries about Lara (better less and much intrigue)
*Many similar weapons (like many kinds of pistols)
*Needles options...

I hope they offer you a job,what a great list. :D
ya http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/music2.gif http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/music1.gif
I'm totally for all the stuff on the should list :D However, I think hand2hand combat is fine(although I didn't use it much, it's nice for variation). I also liked the idea of choosing difficulty, that makes it more convenient for new players and I found the character intro pretty neat http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
I liked the idea of the strength upgrades but I reckon they are pretty needless, especially in AOD considering how short the game was.
Pretty cool ideas. I like them, except the limited saves and the no hand2hand combat.
Ops.....I didn't see the limited save-thingy. No limited saves for me please....I prefer to choose my own saves http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

I think Lara should have hand to hand combat because if Lara is stripped from her guns. What is she going to do, run away.
Anyways I think they should have Lara stick fight. Like in the movies.
i like most of that but have to disagree with a few. i think there should be no limited saves. and there should be the hand thingy, and difficulty levels.
Good ideas http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif . I have to disagree with no hand to hand combat and limited saves :(
Good list! http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
I don't agree with you on the Crystal Saves, i like saving anywhere and everywhere! :D
Also i liked the Inventory system in AOD! http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
I liked the hand but that should be optional. The money thing was okay, it made the game more realistic but the game shouldn't reley on it.
But good list! http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

the list is great! but i like the following to stay:
-character intro coz i like the conversation at the start of the game
-little hand
-hand to hand combat
-unlimited saves
*Little bit less information from Crystal Dynamics about future Tomb Raider 7! (I think Eidos-Core gave too much info about AOD-I almoust had a feel that I had played AOD before, they gave too many scr-shoots, movies and all stuff about AOD, they almoust told all story!!!
Excellent ideas!! http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif I agree with most of them, except:
"More temples and nature!"
Personally, I don't mind much about where the adventure takes place (although I prefer city settings, like London from TR3, Venice from TR2, Paris from AOD), as long as there's a capturing story and good graphics http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
"Crytals save-game system something like in TR3 (limited saves)!"
I'd go for unlimited saves. Helps you organize your gaming a lot better.
"Lara's clothing: !standart! and much more (somewhere about 8 other type of clothing)"
Again, I don't mind much about what Lara wears. However, I'd like to see a new outfit introduced.
"Hand-to-hand combat"
Hand2hand combat should stay!! It is an awesome feature, imho. I would also like to see even more combat moves added. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/mischievous.gif http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/whistle.gif

*Choosing difficulty level! (it's stupid for TR!) i agree!it just doesn't fit in a game like TR!
*CD should think about making water more realistic, cos in AOD it looked just ''like sin''!
http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/redface.gif
No, don't bring back the save crystals!!! I like to be be able to save when and where I want. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif
They do need to do somthing about the save system on the console version though. I don't know how they did it with AOD but TLR and TRC was terrible!! It was too similer to the PC save system which just doesn't work on consoles. :(

You could choose difficulty-level in aod??? Where?? I sure never saw it!
Yes, bye-bye to crystal saves, little hand in the corner (at least make it an option!), useless stuff-collecting - what good did that necklace and the other stuff really do? I never understood that. And what was up with that gather-as-much-money-as-you-possibly-can-thing? I got everything I needed for free anyway.
And, hello again to the mansion (it's a crime to leave it out!), to vehicles (driving that car in TR4 and the quad in TR3 are some of the most fun things I've ever had while "driving" something), and I too kind of like that character-intro. Sets up the story in a good way.

Great ideas, except the save crystals (aaaarrrrrggggghhhh)
i disagree with that of no hand to hand combat... Lara has kicked asses (like Larsonīs) from tomb raider 1 with just a (mortal) kick. She is strong even if she has no two pistols on her hands, the only way to make run out is when thereīs no hope. And have seen all this through all tomb raiders (from 1 to 6) and i think that was a great idea to include those neck breaks an punches or kicks during game play, makes it more according with the image of Lara that was created during the tomb raiders in cut scenes and it definitively must be in TR-VII
*JENN: (No, don't bring back the save crystals!!! I like to be be able to save when and where I want)
Apofiss@JENN - I think that saving ''when and where you want'' system makes Tomb Raider too easy (at least for me) to finish each level and all game, but if there would be save crystals in future TR game then it would make gameplay more realistic! Why more realistic? Cos you would fear of falling down somewhere ( no one wants to replay the same location 1000 times! Right!?) and save-C makes need to be more wathcful! (I wonder why they bring back save-C in TR3, maybe because most TR's gamers didn't like the idea about unlimited saves!?) Bay the way crystals looks so beautiful in TR3 and OF COURSE ONLY ON PlayStation (I mean TR3's PC version is very terrible!!!)
*TR-Player: (Pretty cool ideas. I like them, except the limited saves and the no hand2hand combat)
Apofis@TR-Player&Rikku - OK, maybe some special hand2hand combat which would be allowable 'more or less', at least much better than it was in AOD!
NatEcho: (You could choose difficulty-level in aod??? Where?? I sure never saw it!)
Apofiss@NatEcho - YES! I'm sure you didn't AND so do I! There is no C-D-Level in AOD, but in other topic there were some members
who wrote that in TR7 there could be dif-choose-lev, SO I added one more point about CDL to my LIST .
-Few more ADD-ONs:
*Must have all DirectX9(or latest)effects !ON! even if you have a DirectX7 or 8 based video-card [in hardware]! + more simple optins like it is in Soul Reaver series!
*Maybe less stories about Lara, cos they gave too much info about Lara in TR Chronicles!
*Lara could make some cool moves - when buttons (D-pad's or keyboard's) aren't pressed for a while...
*More movies! NOT ingame's cut-scenes only!
*Lara must have Next-Gen footprints like it is in SilentHill 3! http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/yikes.gif
That's all for now!

Tomb Raider 7 would be perfect if it has the graphics of 'Angel of Darkness', the controls of 'Chronicles' with the length and complexity of 'The Last Revelation' oh and a fully mapable gamepad option.
Then I'd be a very happy bunny for at least 4 months anyway, actually i'd probably never stop playing it.
hey notts we have the same pic http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif i think the save crystals and limited saves should go, if they have to have a hand then it should be less dorky, and laras pistols and mansion are what makes the game what it is. also, a new out fit might be really cool.
aodkma - I agree with you 100%!!!
+one add on:
*TR7's script should be written by the same script writer who wrote previous TR-game's scripts! http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
Looks like that one of my mentioned 'point' has come true! (mentioned somewhere down in my next replies) About
- no information about TR7 in year 2004...
Future Tomb Raider Music!
As you all know, Nathan McCree wrote the wonderful music that played such an integral role in making Tomb Raider the game we know and love. There is a chance that if Crystal Dynamics, the new developers of Tomb Raider 7 under the umbrella of Eidos, are made aware of how much support the Tomb Raider community has for Nathan's music, they may... read more... (http://www.ipetitions.com/campaigns/tomb_raider/)
http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/privateeye.gif
I agree on all of them apart from the hand to hand combat.
It's there if you want to use it and prefer to use it, but that doesn't mean you have to use it.
Also, what if you ran out of ammo and couldn't find anymore and had baddies to fight?
i hope that aod is not involved in the next one. so far aod is horrable. just my opinion. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif
Yeah, AOD was horrable, but just partly, cos it wasn't finished fully! :( Ou thouse core and eidos http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/redface.gif
What's this about AOD not being finished properly? http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/yikes.gif
Well it is so! They (core) cutted many things out of AOD and done other stupid stuff! http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/redface.gif So I say it's not finished! http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/redface.gif http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/redface.gif
Maybe later I will write a list of thouse cutted out things http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/privateeye.gif Hmm...

Maybe later I will write a list of thouse cutted out things http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/privateeye.gif Hmm...Apofiss, you are very correct about this (which is a crazy thing since they kept putting off the release of the game, so exactly WHAT did they do in that time? )
I thought AOD had oh so much going for it, however, it just wasnt finished nor polished.
In the future game I want a weapons upgrade system(see my thread), REASONS for finding money and things of value. I want a store to buy stuff at. I want the game to feel like a (good) movie. I loved the idea of Lara in trouble with the law unjustly, they just didn't go with that enough for me. They had the right idea with her having to find money because she was on the run but WOOPS forgot to make that part of the story! Lets find money for no reason.
I want a little more stealth, but mostly guns blazing. I would like a lot more city and outside environments, but tombs need to be there, obviously. I loved the "choose your own adventure" facet of AOD and TR3. However, in the future, I would like lots more of that. I would like the game to vary based on your choices. Thus, the adventure could be different at least twice. This way, CD wouldn't have to make another character playable in order for the game to stay fresh.
I am sure I have more, but that's it for now! http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Cool Picture.
;)
They just need to get rid of hand to hand combat..It's pointless and just uses the conventional 'I hit you, you hit me back' method like in GTA.
Just a thought but would anyone like to see a change in the aiming department? Like, allocate a button to press so that it locks on to your nearest target when there is more than 1 character on screen?
Hey, but what about aiming in two different directions at the same time - like it is in "Dino Crisis 2"!

In the new tombraider I hope they make a more mission based game play, because for some reason sometimes in past tomb raiders except for aod you don't know what to look for so it's like you could be looking for a babies diaper in a Mayan temple and you wouldn't care because you didn't know what to look for in the first place. I am talking about the inbetween levels, like you knew you were looking for the sicon but the levels inbetween You didn't know. Also more Tombs and ancient land scapes, save system like the first three where you could go back and play levels later. Also more weapons, Old inventory system like the first 3. Level layout like Last revalation where you had many and you could go back to different levels. Longer game, ONly one or two main locations like Egypt, Mexico, or Russia id on't know. Vehicles, Motorcycle Quad bike only a couple of city locations where you can go in and out like a rally point for more info on other artifacs or digs. better controls, Bigger atmosphere like Legacy of Kain and Soul Rever, Info on what happen after the TLR,more moves, bEtter level layouts not so linear maybe more than one way to get and objective. Dinos, Mythical creatures, maybe levels with shootouts and more with puzzels and some with both. secrets worth getting, maybe extras or weapons you wouldn't find. that's it? I hope you all agree with these aspects. Also High adrenalline run aways or getaways ahh a boulder ahh a man in a car ahh a cave in. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/jumper.gif
By WhosaidAODwasbad :"In the new tombraider I hope they make a more mission based game play"
By Apofiss: No, no, no!!! TOMB RAIDER is not a mission BASED game! It's more like free - open - adventure and that makes TOMB RAIDER so SPECIAL!
(of course Lara, others, music, stories and other things TOO)
Well the rest is VERY GOOD! http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
Who knows some Crystal Dynamics' e-mail, where I could send my list - unless it's not too late? http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/privateeye.gif
hey you know what was realy fun in AOD, the candy bars. what the hell was up with the candy bars! there was no point! unless you REALY suck and lose ALL your heath to Boaz or some thing they had no point.
the money thing was fun, and the pawn shop, but there was nothing to buy i WANTED to pick up a MP5 or something, but Remmy(?) wouldent let me grrr.... although it would realy suck if it became like zelda where peeps leave $$ in the street every where, and your always focused on that 4 strength upgrades and stuff. maybe buy stuff insted of cheets, like only cool smart people(people obsesed with the game) can find hidden cash& use it.
i liked the bribe part of AOD, maybe some thing like that? like trying to get her guns through internatinal customs. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/jumper.gif http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/mischievous.gif
Every things fine as long as we CAN PLAY as Kurtis. I totaly agree on the levels being more special and wider to explore. Oh, and please can we have the Maria Doria back? AND KURTIS!? (sobs uncontrolably) I want thim back!!!
*Idea how Lara's mansion could look in TR7 with new GRAPHICS:

I couldn't agree more with your list, Apofiss! Old style all the way, except graphics and controls of course. I always thought TR3 was (in some ways) the pinnacle of the series. It was by no means perfect--I think they tried too much too soon with that game--but it was the right idea IMO. Lets have TR7 be grand in scope with multiple pathways through levels, multiple vehicles to use, large numbers of secrets to be found. Unlike TR3 though, I'd hope for levels that are all, or mostly, exotic natural environments with ancient tombs and temples to explore. Aside from the mansion I wouldn't want much in the way of modern locales. Let's put exploration back into Tomb Raider!
Main list updates are available now! (see first post) ;)
Hmm...Tomb Raider 7 could look somewhere about like this http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/whistle.gif
http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v258/Rihards/TR7.jpg
Tomb Raider 7 (untitled) should include 3 special secret places which are (almost) impossible to find! This could be a very good reason to re-play TR7 again and again with big interest! http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/bash.gif
I also want the Secrets to come back :(

I also want the Secrets to come backSecrets, as in..?
Angel of Darkness has alot of Secret Areas, just nothing, which played the 'secret' music when you found it.
I like the Tomb Raider 3 Save System, as it gave you the option to either save anytime or from crystals. That said I quite disliked the game on the whole. Personally my favourites would be:
5, 6, 1, 2, 4, 3
I know that probably is going to be odd, but really I wasn't fussed over the level designs in 3.. that really spoilt it for me.
4 was quite boring in all, I mean the story was there and it was a classic adventure; but just found it boring to play through the first time.
2 seemed to just drag-on, it was awesome but felt too long and confusing in places.
1 was great, but has to settle behind the other games on features and graphics really.
6 was awesome, but bugged and lacked alot of gameplay.
5 in my opinion was the apitomy of the series.
The Level Designs were quite in-genious, particularly the Ireland Saga. The story moved along allowing each mini-adventure to be quite different from the last providing a nice change of scenary and depth every few levels. There were fake routes to take, devious secrets to find, and a new ability that began to show the level formats limitations.
While I'll say, sure when Tomb Raider originally came out the CG for it was quite cool. Compared to what is being developed now, unless it is done right... it really just looses the atmosphere of the game.
Crystal Dynamics games are great, in the way you have a CG Intro and Outro, but the rest are in-game cutscenes. I believe this really does make the game feel more fluid. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif It was a pain to see Lara in 4 & 5 still with relatively the same CG look as she'd had in the first game... it was kept because of the style, but the artist in-charge could've quite easily done CG up-to the standard seen in Warcraft 3, or BloodRayne 2.
The Angel of Darkness CG Scenes were a cop-out really. It is a shame given what was planned, but you go with what you have time for.
read alot of *****ing about how Core must've wasted thier time, but I've talked about what happened too often now. All I'll say is go back and look for threads about Crystal Dynamics taking over our british rose, or about how AoD sucked. kinda makes me mad everytime I see such an ignorant post.. I mean computer games don't grown on trees ya know http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif
my list of what should and shouldn't be in Tomb Raider is extremely different, no doubt alot of people would disagree; but what you imagine and what is put into practise are two different things. I'm sure that adding in a full acrobatics system to Tomb Raider wouldn't make it less TR-like, unlike if it was made into a PoP Clone. Adding in a Hand-to-Hand combat system also wouldn't deteriorate how the game plays, provided it is all added in a way that is easily controlled, in a similar mannor to how TR is now.
It's all about who is developing and what they feel is most important to work on.

By apofis: Adding in a full acrobatics system into Tomb Raider - I think this is needless - Tomb Raider is mostly about raiding tombs. (anyway if CD would include full pack of acrobatics, what new thay could invent in TR8?)

This is really just another thread like the one below... where your happy with people echoing what you like and don't really want to know consenring what others think. :-\
Yes. (but this topic thought was/is to keep TR as it was from 1-5...and yes maybe sometimes TR (for example TR4) gets boring, but still I enjoyed every step in game, cos it's special http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/privateeye.gif )

I don't bother who makes it untill basic charm of TR is maintained.
So..what else TRs in 2020 should have in it. Where else is the scope for more.
Designers must strike and maintain what we call
an 'Equilibrium' between various activities she does. It should not have too much of anything.
Like:-
What is point of lara climing 20 sledges one after
the other? Or driving jeep literally 1 mile ! or opening 20 doors one-after-other to get to an artifact!
So.. she must fly vintage airplanes. We must see some adventure in Ships and submarines. She must travel to poles, Raw boats in Nile, go in to haunted Castles in Europe, Old tamples in India, dense jungles of Washington D. C. with all sort of spooky stuff around, to remote cold mountains of Himalayas and should chase bandits on Camel in Sahara (all that 'Tintin' stuff you remember:) )
That is how it would be educational and LOTS of fun, Preparing TR gamers, a truely global community that would love people and appreciate cultures of other parts of the world.
EXISTING STUFF. More microscopic design features are must.
(1) Lara as a High IQ girl who should drive you to use your head and improve your IQ and knowledge.
(i) Lara must become a forensic expert also.
Advantage for 12-20 age group :- Heaving a non-paper medium to grasp High School Chemistry to some extent. It must be intersting and fact finding excercise for The gamers.
(ii)Lara as a 'Code breaker' :-(actually gamer has to break it, if not following walkthrough)much like Nicolus Cage in 'National Treasure'. They must be simple so that fun part is not lost. Wanna whirl your mind when a string of wornds to decode.
It sould cover all ordinary topics that people study before High School. Simple astronomy, Maths, Physics, Biology, world Histry, Chemistry, World Geography. Fun part and Basic Charm of TR must be retained.
If you can decode such funda things without walkthrough, won't you love to call yourself 'Genius!!'
(iii) Shooting around, driving Vehicles is Advanture. That's fine. But lara must remain a Arch. by profession. So let her unearth artifacts and other stuff, but MAKE THE GAMER THINK! When it comes to putting things together to solve a puzzle.
(iv) Let Lara (GAMER) decode ancient languages like Hierolography. But it must be kept unambiguous and fun.
Hey, Roxio, I like your intelligent Lara idea and adding real world academic knowledge to the game. Not sure how popular it would be though.
Updates
*Mansion's architecture (level geometry) should be realistic in all dimensions.
*The mansion's basic idea has to be taken from Tomb Raider III, but few interesting ideas can be adopted from TR movie mansion.
*Mansion should be bigger (for about 30 to 50%), with fully accessible rooms, that is: more rooms and more secret hidden rooms (some rooms can be opened only during the game process' progression)
*Mansion should has few extras inside like stereo and wardrobe: new clothes are available only during the game process' progression. AND NOTHING MORE, cause it isn't the sims game after all!
*Lara doesn't live alone; butler and tech-guy is in package with mansion (perhaps).
*Bigger yard (for about 50 to 100%) which includes horse riding, training site and beautiful garden. (of course, there should be training room inside the mansion too)
*Yard must be limited, that is, Lara can't go too far away outside of yard. (same as in TR1 - TR3)
*Environment should be interactive and variable

i think it would be cool to visit exterior locations at different times of day. (example- some ancient contraption only works if you come back and do something at night...)
just a thought...
I agree with almost everything that's on the list. http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/wave.gif http://www.tombraiderforums.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif
