Here is a Tutorial using Windows Movie Maker 5.1:

Open the program up then go to the bottom untill you see 'show timeline' Click on this then you need a good song to go with your movie. Here is a step by step diagram of how to do this:
http://img54.imageshack.us/img54/320/song5ke.jpg

When you have now drag your music on the timeline you can do the exact same thing with movie clips. When you have your desired movie clips onto your collections start adding them to the timeline. Dont add all at once because you will need to add transitions ect.

Add your first clip then add your second clip. Split the clips to how long you want them to be ( http://img122.imageshack.us/img122/1186/split3jg.jpg) You can drag both clips into eachother so the other clip begins to appear halfway through but with a 50% opacity appearance.

You can also use transitions which can be found in Tasks (blue square with a checklist appearance).
The Tasks menu contains many shortcuts on how to do things incuding credits, titles, Automovie (not advisable) ect. ect.

When you have all your clips fitting nicely together with the music you can then add any other effects you want by right clicking and clicking on Video Effects, this will show a variety of effects that you can apply to your clip.

While making your movie make sure you save your project often because Windows Movie Maker tends to crash for my computer.

When you have tweaked and perfected your movie you can now save it into a movie file.

Click onto file, save movie file . My computer then type a name that you will be able to recognise. After that you can chose a place where to save it. I recommend you check where you save it before just pressing next incase
you happen to save it in some place you will never be able to find again.

If you want to use your movie for your own personal viewing chose High quality video.

If you want to share your video with other people on the internet you will save it as Video for broadband. I recommend 512kbps or 340kbs but you decide depending on the filesize (mb) shown in the bottom right hand corner of the save movie wizard window.

Heh, I wish I'd waited another day for this post to appear because it took me all day yesterday to figure out how to use it. But once you get the hang of it it's actually pretty easy to use. Although the edition I have doesn't have any "video effects" listed. Maybe I'll se if I can download the latest version.

Don't worry it crashed (or rather froze) my computer too. About 20 times.

While making your movie make sure you save your project often because Windows Movie Maker tends to crash for my computer.Movie Maker crashes when you don't have enough RAM and when your processor is slow. It needs at least 512MB RAM so as to run with no problems.
